    Tip Paul. To limit amount off 'floaty bits' in the bag, fill the bag in a stream or river with the mouth of the bag facing awy from the flow of the current.

    My thoughts exactly Paul, happy with mine so far. The actual flask section is made by Hydrapak, I already have a couple for trail running and the threads match up. I carry one when out along with the full Katadyn set up, that way ,were I to puncture the flask, I have a back up. Keep the videos coming 👍

    I’ve been using this system for a year or so now. I like that the bag has a wide opening and is easy to fill, a big bonus in cold conditions because you don’t have to get your hands wet.

    I love
    it!
    I bought the 0.6L because there was no 1L format in store. I couldn't wait for the next delivery so I bought it anyway. I had done my research and I found that it is compatible with the Hydrapak Seeker. A 42mm neck is required.
    You are not stuck with only Katadyn bags Paul, you can also use it with Hydrapak Seeker 2L, 3L, 4L and 8L.
    That's what i do. I use it with my 2L and 4L.

    I did look at that system and saw quite a few mixed reviews. In the end i went for the 2L VECTO and Versa Flow Gravity Water Filtering System. Main reason universal cap. Filter has two caps stopping it leaking and beasties getting inside it. Back flow flush ..Simple squeeze the clean water bag or bottle.. I have a brand new Sawyer as a backup on a multi day. The biggest problem with reduced flow is most people dont flush and store properly. Cheers

  • @DravinD81
    @DravinD81 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I use the BeFree, but I got the 2019 CNOC Vecto 2L that's threaded for it (the 2020 Vecto is only threaded for 28mm). The combination allows enough room between filter and container to use a 1 micron non-woven, washable, boilable sediment filter that slides on the BeFree from DualPacks. However, I carry 2L of water, SoCal is not a bounty of creeks and rivers near me. It's what works for me, HydraPak also has containers threaded for the BeFree. Excellent look at some new kit!

Filter fits all kinds of bottles and bags with a universal thread. Also comes with a backflush syringe that you can use every few camps/hikes.

Just wondering...you've had this filter for a few months now. How are you finding it? Some reviews question its durability. Also do you use any other sterilisation methods as this filter doesn't remove viruses from water. Thanks. S

Good flow rate, convertible for use on water bottles or out of stream, lightweight, compact, the flexible bottle it comes with is high quality and has a wide opening for streams etc, and one of the only ones with an in-built / replaceable activated carbon filter! Goes on sale all the time too...

    I've been torn between this and the sawyer squeeze for a while, the BeFree seems the far better filter. However I want to do long distance trips so the hard to replace bag can be a big problem, as you mentioned.
    Of course I could carry a spare bag but that makes it alot more expensive and heavier, or just trust that it wont break.

    Paul, this filter looks brilliant - and fast! You used the filtered water to make coffee, but a rolling boil for 1 min will kill all bacteria, viruses, protozoans, and all else (WHO, 2015). So if the water looks clear, why not boil for that min? Heavy crud, weed stuff would probably block the filter anyway. But I can see it's great for cold drinking water, cleaning teeth, etc. (BTW I lived on boiled water for 2 weeks while backpacking on Isle Royale in Lake Superior and am here to tell the tale.)

    • @GeekfromYorkshire
      @GeekfromYorkshire 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pasteurisation is roughly 70C for a minute, the rolling boil is more about being assured of it's actually hot, less guesswork, and killed whatever got into and around the pot. As it's more than double the fuel to get to 100C as 70C there are alternatives.
      Most Brits are drinking milk which has not got a rolling boil, just 71.7C for a 15-25 seconds where the milk came from a cow's nipple which has dragged in faeces. We over-boil.
      This filter removes most things bar viruses. Viruses are destroyed faster in heat, so a good combination is this filter plus either a reasonable amount of heat - doesn't need to be a rolling boil - or chlorine dioxide - which is lighter than the fuei.

    I use the Grayl filter or the Sawyer mini. The Grayl is a solid piece of kit and removes chemicals so if I am near farmland I will use the Grayl, if not I will use the Sawyer.

    The use the Salomon flasks and they are also 42 thread so fit the BeFree filter (I have both, so a bottle spare)- but they are all soft flasks, which can be a pain. I haven't found a hard bottle yet that fits the Be Free. Great video - Love the Peaks. Got lost on Kinder Scout in January and was a very scary few hours in bad weather. ATB - Julia

    Always enjoy your reviews, thanks! Have you tried the Pure Hydration Aquapure bottle? I’ve been using one for years, it works for bacteria, Protozoa and viruses. Water tastes great, no cleaning problems, reasonable flow rate. It’s also easy to attach to your rucksack in a variety of ways.

    Looks very good,I'm still stuck in the dark ages when it comes to water purification as I'm still using a Steripen & a nalgene bottle lol

    Was great seeing you at the bottom of jacobs ladder paul. Really informative relaxed videos giving great feedback on products. Im currently looking at a hiking waterbottle as i always seem to be running out of fluids when out for the day ! does that filter take out bacteria and chemicals from the water source?

    Hi Paul. Have seen the Faircap water filter? I came across it earlier this week when Melon Bites did a video on it, well worth watching that video. Its fairly similar to this filter but its cheaper and screws onto normal plastic bottles. Cheers.
