  • Really though who says “skateboard park” it’s skatepark. Regardless these games are so overambitious!
Notes on how I got each game running on Windows 10:
    - The first game and World Tour 2003 both installed fine off the disc, but needed NoCD cracks to run.
    - Back in the USA 2004 failed to install, what you need to do is copy the entire ‘DATA’ folder off the disc, and then use a NoCD crack to replace Skate3.exe
    - If you want to emulate the mobile game for whatever reason, use Kemulator, set the framerate to around 15, and run it at a resolution lower than around 200x200 - I believe it’s designed to run at 128x128

Quite surprised Activision didn't slap the Tony Hawk name, or at least one of the numerous other skateboarders they licensed for their games on top of this, double the RRP.
Especially Bam Margera, if they were adding modes where you're purposely meant to injure yourself.

Excellent video (as always). Have you thought about covering metropolis street racer? It was a technically-ambitious racing game that was exclusively released on the dreamcast. It had three cities (London, Tokyo, and San Francisco) which were faithfully recreated, each with custom-recorded radio stations (much like GTA).
There was a ridiculous amount of detail in the game, down to the fact that the radio stations would dynamically report on the traffic and weather within the game - I could continue to digress, but i think you get the picture. It was also visually gorgeous, possessing that unique, intangible sixth-generation style.
Finally, there is a quote somewhere that compared releasing MSR exclusively for dreamcast to the beatles exclusively selling the white album on mars.

Ah the skateboard tycoon games, i remember growing up with them in western Sydney, the games came and went randomly with cereals like Nutri-grain and weet-bix but was always different in some way, to the point that reprinting CDs would involve version changes of seemingly nothing being fixed or changed that wouldn't work with already installed copies of the game. The game was also notoriously hard to cheat at the time, even programs like Artmoney couldn't fix or add money due to the seemingly endless amount of numbers working and changing underneath.
Fun game! Never figured out why it just stopped working a few months after installing it, even reinstalling would mean the game stopped working.

Wow, its super cool to see someone do a video on the full series, these games, specially 2003/2004 were big childhood games for me and I enjoyed a lot of my time with them. As you mentioned over and over in your video, its such a neat concept, and I think that is the main appeal of the game even with its lackluster skating and building is the idea of being able to just build your own park and then skate it. I also do think the game could really benefit from a lot of like more tycoon game mechanics, a re-work of the skating, and just have some aspects of the game modernized. I want to try to make my own modern version of the game someday as I think there is a lot of potential for it, but it is a very ambitious thing, since it is two games in one in a way, but maybe someday it can be done. Great video! :D

Oh man, outstanding video! It hit me right in the feels :) I know Cat Daddy pretty well from their other work. Just when you started describing the main concept of building park and skating there I immediately remembered Championship Snowboarding 2004 developed by none other than Cat Daddy in 2003 and published by Activision Value Publishing. This game is a snowboarding arcade simulator similar to the Tony Hawk formula, you complete goals and unlock new locations to progress. However, some maps, I mean, mountains, of course, since we do snowboarding here, have tycoon modes where the player is tasked with making certain amount of profit by building various ramps, ledges and rails on the mountain. Man, this game even shares UI elements with those shown in Skateboard Park Tycoon series. Naturally, Championship Snowboarding 2004 was a budget title and it showed, I personally found it at the local video game rental store many years ago where it always was in the bargain bin. But this game always had a place in my heart for its charm. Of course, it could not compete with Tony Hawk's or SSX series in terms of quality, but it managed to perfectly capture the spirit of the early aughts with pop punk soundtrack (here it featured songs from band called Flipp) and its style. Gameplay-wise it was nothing exceptional, but it was fun enough to play. I simply love that game and it saddens me that not a lot of people have even heard about it
Thanks a lot for making this video and sharing your memories! I would even dare recommending you to find and play Championship Snowboarding 2004, I guess you might quite like it
P.S. Oh yeah, this game also had these objectives of breaking every single bone in your body within a time limit, lol

There's a Papa John's PC demo of A Series of Unfortunate Events that just quietly says in a corner on the back, "Also Included: The Full Version of Skateboard Park Tycoon - Back in the USA 2004." The whole game, presented as a barely notable addition to a demo for a garbage movie tie in, given away for free with a pizza. And that's exactly how I first got to experience this franchise. I love it.

God these and hot wheels stunt track driver were my favorite games as a kid that no one else ever bothered with. Totally forgot these existed.

I think this is a great idea for a video series: obscure games that were very cheap or given away.

My grandparents bought me one of these games as a kid, 2001 Back in the USA. I put so many hours into that game...

I played one of these at a friends house as a kid (IDK which one). Only thing I really remember is in the free roam city there was a subway entrance that if you went in would make you shoot out the top of another building really fast.

I remember getting Spt2k3 (I think...) in a box of Nutra Grain cereal. Loved the soundtrack.
Edit: welp. You just mentioned that. That's what I get for leaving a comment before finishing the video.

I was obsessed with Rollercoaster Tycoon (which I got my copy of in a box of Cheerios) in Elementary School, and would try to order any game with Tycoon in the name whenever Scholastic came around. I know I knew of these games, and my friend, who also was super into RCT, had one of them, but despite being into skateboarding as well, I never played any of them.

One of my favorite tycoon games was around 2003ish but it was Rock Band Tycoon aka Rock Manager. That game was awesome to me as someone who played in a punk band and loved everything about making music and starting a band. There was a Gold edition (Patch) that let you start whatever band you wanted and play as long as you want at the end, but the only version I can find is the story version that just has the campaigns....which are still fucking fun and hilarious.

Very interesting, such a fun idea for a tycoon game: taste your own hard work as a customer perspective.
