    Its also called the flying coffin, my Neighbor was a pilot *Syria* he told he lost all controll surfaces suddenly at low altitude over the Syrian desert and had to eject and spend a day alone in the desert

      wow. I have heard some stories from the Syrian civil war and how they often had to make ad hoc repairs and missing maintenance because of high workloads so it does not surprise me.

      To be fair, try to find an equivalent aircraft with a comparable service record. None of them can hold a candle to the MiG-21from a safety standpoint. The number of crashes is in line with the staggering number of airframes built, their widespread use in austere environments, by air forces with modest budgets, and the fact that they've been in service for decades. The MiG-21 is actually a very, very robust and reliable aircraft for its generation.

    I have to admit, the MiG-21 was the last module i bought because of the all scary review people wrote bout her. But now i love to fly her time to time if im on the red side in Enigma server. The challenge of taking off & complete your mission then landing it in one piece is so satisfying.
    Used to all these fly by wire stuff & suddenly jump into cold war jet is a wonderful experience. This jet & like the Tomcat talks back to you. You will get feedback in visual & audio which is soo cool.

    It's pretty versatile! It flies like a brick, but its got a lot of power. It's also a missile truck and with the gyro sight and can accurately land bombs and missiles. The beam riding grom is very useful as well! The radar missiles aren't bad either.

      truth to be told the R3R is pretty shit but by 1970 standards not bad at all

      Turn on the secondary afterburner, you will be very surprised. This thing is like a car without ABS - when it is within its parameters it flies straight and could even rate. With the second burner, you get +40% thrust and the plane becomes far more effective. I didn't play MP yet, but I am currently able to outrate a Mirage F1E AI on ace skill.
      Now whether or not I am able to kill said AI once I have my nose pointed at it is another story, I am still utter crap.

    Did the trial of the 21 last month, loved it! Was looking for a cold war “bvr” capable interceptor, and fell in Love for its ag capabilities! Easier and more precise than mirage F1 to drop bombs. But in air to air, its a love and hate relationship. Its the enemy, the 21 fighting against me. Waiting for the next discount to buy it and pg map. Thx for the content!

      it is certainly a capable A2G aircraft. Way more capable then most other aircraft's from that period. The only only one that can out phase it in capabilities is the F-4 phantom that we hopefully get by the end of the year (knock on wood)

      @LupinYonderboy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dcsheinlein The S24 rockets are probably it's best A2G weapon, accurate but with good blast radius. A pair fired at a group of tanks will kill maybe 2 of them.

    Definitely worth it. This DCS module is like a classic novel. Instead of being a thing everyone has read, it's a thing that so many fighter pilots around the world have flown in all kinds of historical situations. Really the MIG 21 is just as much a part of human history as chariots, the bow and arrow, and the sword. It is a timeless engineering masterpiece.
    It is also only a plane for real men. No fancy bullshit. Just a brutal mechanical fighter plane with analog electronics that requires you to use your brain to use effectively.

    I just bought it in a recent sale and despite everything bad people say about it (hard to land, hard to fly, hard everything) this plane is not so bad! In fact, I have yet to botch a single landing with it, which is saying something. It has no chance without GCI/AWACS though.

    • @mingmong151
      @mingmong151 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree absolutely! The mig 21 is the only plane i fly and i love it. Even though it's insanely hard to use without a GCI/AWACS, it isn't impose if you get a feel for the rwr. Often i use the AWACS to get a general heading and then rwr + radar to narrow exactly where the enemy is.

      this was actually the first plane I learned to fly with DCS, I think it is easy as hell to fly this thing, it made me actually think that DCS isn't very realistic because this sh111t is too easy

    My plane from the cold war, in pvp a good player was shooting me down, i don't know how he was flying low to evade my radar. Generally it is not popular due to its very limited radar but in reality that plane is directed by powerful ground radar directly to the target. In the game I know that you can create missions by connecting a ground radar to the aircraft but I haven't learned how to do them yet. In practice, a sort of datalink network allows it to reach any target at great distances if directed from a firing station. Obviously, not being able to rely on ground radars, it becomes practically blind compared to other aircraft and I would leave ground attacks to a Su 25 but can launch anti-ship missiles and rockets.
    It's not easy to fly, only for those who love challenges and in my opinion it teaches a lot about flying and the jet engines of those times.

    I guess to buy or not to buy depends, on how and why you play DCS. If you just want a flying FPS with the most lethal and modern jets and weapons then pass this one up. But if you are interested in the history of air combat get it. Same if you want a more WVR style of fighting, especially one that doesn't have to contrive situations that would result in a merge. The pireiod of time that the Mig-21bis fits into is set to expand greatly in the coming years. And the first third party module is going to fit right into that. I personally can't wait to break the old girl out.

    I got MIG 21 a month ago. I have stutters, which don't happen with other planes that I tried. I drop from 120FPS to 25 or 5 FPS for a few deconds. I read that it might something to do with Radar ground clutter. The mirror eats 20FPS. I think the developers should squash the bugs on this plane. Also, many times engine sound completely cuts out when loading a new mission . Reloading a mission makes engine sound come back

    • @madaxe606
      @madaxe606 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Try clearing out your metashader and fxo folders. That helps a lot with the stutters. With the engine-sound cutouts, let the mission finish loading completely before you move the throttle (I've noticed it happens vastly more with mid-air hot starts) and that should reduce them as well. I think there's also an option to reduce the mirror resolution slights, which helps with FPS.

    • @NoRegret08
      @NoRegret08 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@madaxe606 Thank you. I tried it before, it does not help. The metashaders and fxo that is. I will try the throttle thing. It also happens (engine sound) on Enigma server a lot when I get killed and respawn. Never happened to me during engine restarts.

    • @madaxe606
      @madaxe606 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NoRegret08 Hm, weird. I've not noticed stutters except when there's a ton of AAA firing, or the occasional bit of lag on Enigma. The Metashadar and fxo thing always works really well for me. I have yet to get the low-altitude radar FPS drop, though I've heard about it. I get the no-engine-sound thing once in a while, but only ever from a mid-air hot start, never a spawn into a cold aircraft. Hope you get it figured out.
      Edit: Check out Nin's sound mod on the DCS forums. It's really good. Might help with the sound, maybe.
