How to Duplicate Australis

  • G'day guys. Here we manage to do an assisted duplication (eduction) of Austroplebeia Australis. The motherhive is one of our Observation Hives which has always been super strong. Australis hardly ever put brood into a daughter hive by themselves but they do respond beautifully to a "broodlift" which is what we did here. We sourced the brood from a log transfer we did and the added bonus was finding a princess that we transferred as well. A little over 3 months to go from an empty box to a stand alone colony is a brilliant result and we're pretty chuffed. A bit of time was lost at the start with the change of connection from the bottom of the daughter hive to the rear. As soon as the connection was changed the bees went crazy.
Apologies for the bad video formatting but it was filmed over 3 months and I kept forgetting which format I was using.
Anyhoo, thanks for watching and if you like the video hit the thumbs up. We really appreciate the support. Cheers guys.

Great video! I got interested in stingless bees a few months ago and now I already have 3 hives from 3 different species and I spread some trap nests in the forest a month ago, and luckily I captured 2 more last week. This hobby is really addictive

Very good work. In the difficult position of only having 2 log hives of AA and wanting to duplicate to a point where I end up with an observation hive to take to daughters' daycare. But also maintain the 2 log hives.

Give it a go mate. You might get lucky. If they only put food in there you might be able to buy some brood from someone to seed it
