I survived the WORST place on Earth | Sihanoukville, Cambodia

  • Sihanoukville, Cambodia is just 45 minutes from some truly beautiful islands. It might be the worst place on Earth. You'll need to pass through here if you want to go somewhere much better. But I thought why not see what this hell hole of rampant development, casinos and sewerage flowing into the ocean has to offer. I do this so you don't have to. YOU'RE WELCOME.

The sad part is that they use Chinese construction workers and not locals who are desperate for the work, the Chinese view Cambodians as second class citizens and the whole area is full of poverty other than the Chinese or foreigners that go there, personally I felt out of my depth there but loved many other places throughout Cambodia, amazing country.

Went there first in Jan 2010, the golden lions are probably the only concrete construction that remain from that time.
I went back in late 2017, it'd had changed so much in 7.5 years, but looking at recent videos it changed massively in the last 4 years.
From a chilled backpacker destination that gave the locals some extra income to a casino city where the main benefactors are already wealthy Chinese...
Sure it had its problems and seedy side back then, but the coastline was much less developed / low rise and the locals benefitted from the tourists and most could afford to live there... Not anymore.

Good job man, now that's a stylized travel news exposè! I was there in March 2017 just before the full horrors you walked amongst had manifested. It was right on the brink, about to topple into the madness you saw. I was able to find some redeeming charms in the local food and other distractions. You are just extremely jealous about the recent progress in the city. Obviously you can't afford to stay in loxurious hotels and other accomodation... Just go to cheap places for your convenient

You didn't survive the place. You shacked up there for a night. I survived it. I was stuck there for six months from 2015-2016. Had no phone, no computer, and even spent a night on the streets.

@@BusinessClass69 It was a good experience actually. At the beginning of it I had 500 riel and no place to sleep. At the end I had about $2000 and a relatively decent apartment. Wasn't able to benefit from anybody back in the States and never had to rely on teaching English. I did alright.

@@amazingchannel8837 i thought you are cambodian? The fact is that Chinese 's buildings may be at first for Cambodians to use or live in. But if cambodians can't pay debt in time, Chinese would take these buildings back along with theirs lands. Do you think cambodian can pay back 4 billion dollars which equals = 1/6 gdp cambodia in time? I think it's impossible honestly

This is definitely not anywhere close to being the worst place on earth... it is actually a fantastic city which also has a few troubled areas but as long as you use your head you will be fine. Talking bad about a city in a country which you are not from is complete trash on your part and hopefully you stay where your from and stop spouting your trash opinions. You obviously didn’t have the money to enjoy the finer parts of the city since you could only afford a $40 room. I have enjoyed Cambodia for many years and regardless of whether I’m in my penthouse In Phnom Penh or the Wild West in Sville, Cambodia is an awesome country to work hard and play even harder! 👍❤️
