Sammy Hagar is an amazing performer and I hope he is able to extend his career for many many years to come. I think this residency will give him time to really recharge his enthusiasm for touring I wish him all the best .
He's 77 years old and Still sounds good and plays his ass off. Sure, Michael Anthony handles the really high vocals nowadays, But Sammy is still very much Sammy. I can't ever see him stopping, But slowing down and doing residencies and one off's instead of flat out touring is Totally fine for someone like him who's pushing 80! Smokey Robinson is 84 and still sounds great, and looks great for his age. And Smokey does the same thing. He'll go out and do a one off or maybe a week of shows here and there.
I don't think Sammy gets the point of the book, It's called Brothers... Who was in the band is irrelevant, It's not called Brothers plus Sammy or Dave! It wasn't about the full history of the band, It also is volume one, Books often come in pairs or series, Probably the first half of a bigger story... Either way Al did it his way! What matters to him and his life with Edd through his view, It is what it is for what it is, No need to compare anything or over think it, It was about Edd and Al... Nothing more nothing less.
Sammy is a crybaby, used to love him before Van Halen, his trashing of the brothers incessantly has changed my mind, I'll listen to montrose and his early solo stuff and that is all
Well spoken, I would like to add that Al has sketched a rather complete picture of Dave as well , because he used to be a close friend of Al when they started with the VH-band

The "fans" of Sammy couldn't care less. He just paints it that way like with everything else to make himself look better. This statement was simply to plug his residency and slight Alex van Halen.
I don’t get why Sammy feels the need to weigh in on a book Alex wrote about his brother. The title is Brothers, not The Sammy Years. Alex didn’t say anything negative about Sammy, nor is he obligated to consider the Sammy years the ‘best years.’ It’s not always about you, Sammy. And for the record-I love Sammy!
The reason he left out the Hagar was to get back at Hagar because when Hagar wrote his book he included a chapter about the 2004 tour. Hagar let out a lot of details about Eddie that wasn’t his business to let out. Eddie was in a bad place having almost died from tongue cancer in 2001. All just to sell a book. The VH brothers are very private so to Alex that was such a betrayal by Hagar and it was. One of Alex’s close friends went on Eddie T show and confirmed this. That being said as mentioned in another comment Alex doesn’t bad mouth Hagar. He even said the Hagar years is for another book. The book was about him and Eddie sticking together and realizing their dream. It was meant to be a tribute to Eddie instead of Alex writing about his entire life. Now that is what Alex says in interviews. I was disappointed the Hagar years weren’t in the book but I completely understand why Alex left it out.

It was Tim "Ripper" Owens that highlighted how many tours of non-A&B listers that had to be canceled because the tours couldn't be financed. If you are in a band that sells an average number of records of a Nuclear Blast Records and you tour everywhere, there's tons of travel, back to back shows without days off, plenty of prep time that makes the day at least 8-10 hours long. Yeah, you can't do that forever.

I have two points to make, and I hope they come across properly. First is, Sammy has given us so much already with his solo career in Van Halen, and all the other bands that he’s been a part of that at his age who would have a right to complain if he decided to wind down a little bit? Second of all as far as Alex leaving him out of the book? I kind of agree with both of them to be honest, but it is Alex‘s prerogative to do so. But you know what Sammy? You have a voice. And you have a pen. And you have an audience that would listen to your opinions. Should you decide to write a book about that time. Alice could do the same thing and I hope he does. In any respect it would be fantastic for the fans and possibly even for you, Sammy and Alex to be able to give your takes, your perspectives, on what you both went through from behind the mic and behind the kit. You know your fans would love it. Should you choose to do so. Thanks to both of you as well as Mikey and Eddie for giving us everything that you have already. That goes for David and Gary as well.
Sammy has earned the right, as a musician and as a human being to do the things that makes him happy. Whether it’s retirement, a residency or extended tours, he’s well within his rights to do any one of those things. That said, Alex can write whatever he likes as well. If the book was meant to be about him and Eddie, that’s is choice I guess. Van Halen did continue on, in no small part, because of Sammy being in the band. Not to say that they wouldn’t have been able to continue without him. I’m just looking at the one album they released with Gary. They didn’t have a whole lot of traction with that release. I enjoyed some songs on that album, so it wasn’t all that bad, just wasn’t the Van Halen we were used to, be is Dave or Sammy. Van Halen wouldn’t have been the same without every era/line-up. Iconic songs were written and the fans love them. What more could be asked for than that?
I saw Sammy last summer and I agree with him that he should kick back and not go through the grind of touring anymore. His singing wasn’t as strong as it’s always been which is understandable.
I don't blame Sammy for being angry or confused. I found Alex's book to be a huge disappointment. He ended it with David's departure which is ridiculous since they made lots of albums and lots of money with Sammy. Personal feelings aside, he left out a lot of band history. I was looking forward to reading the book and hoping for so much more. I also feel that Sammy's book depicted what went on between he and the brothers very well. They , especially Ed, were fanatics and single minded as far as their music to the detriment of family and friends. Read Valerie's books and you will be shocked at how he treated her and his son, for his music, which came first!

When I think 'Van Halen', I think D.L.R. era... I couldn't care less about Mr. Hagar. He should get over himself, retire and get lost!
I like Sammy as an artist. He seems to be a good guy. I was a HUGE fan of Edward and the first Van Halen crew. I also really liked the first few albums made with the second crew. . . They were totally different bands. . .Both friggin' brilliant. It seems that Alex chose to focus on the era that meant the most to him and told the story he wanted to tell. It is a personal story and it can be left at that and respected as that. Sammy seems to have hurt feelings, but he has his own stories to tell. Not taking sides in drama between rock stars (an expression of boredom IMO). Hoping to see the show in Las Vegas . . . I Wish Alex was playing drums (absolutely underrated beast), but I can't imagine only one of the brothers up there. I doubt Ed would have continued without Al.
A great musician and tons of tunes. Regardless of whether you like the VH years the songs for me were awesome. But as a solo artist he has put out great music. Nothing left to prove just sit back enjoy the rest of the days ya have!
Last time I saw Sammy was inn December '24. Although he's still sounds *amazing* for his age, this was the first time I saw him struggling to hit some of the higher notes. There were a few times where Mike had to take over.
I’ve lost so much respect for Sam. I think he’s just as egotistical as Dave but hides behind this persona of he’s just an Everyman. If Sammy didn’t come along VH would have succeeded with whoever.
The man knows his limits that's all good to me.I think that's a wonderful way for him to keep his music pure. Love me some Sammy. Yes he did keep Val Halen alive ....show some respect
Sammy will never get his friendship back with Alex if he keeps running his mouth. The book was called "Brothers" not "Van Halen", it was about Alex's relationship with his brother. Alex reminded fans of that but apparently Sammy ignored that part. I say that as a fan of both Van Halen's.
I love the Van Hagar music. I watched the new tour though and Satch just doesn’t fit. There are just too many better alternatives. Either way, I’m glad we still get access to live rock music.
Alex was the most replaceable member of VH regardless of era. He was a mid level drummer. The band was driven by guitar and vocals. Without Sammy, Eddie, DLR, and even Michael Anthony, the band is radically different. Without Alex, nothing changes. Outside of H4T and Pleasure Dome, the drumming of VH was utterly forgettable. Alex is holding a grudge, and the only reason people are reading his book is because of his brother. Alex stands on the shoulders of giants in an obvious cash grab. Sucks, love the band (both era) but Alex should just man up and forgive.
Sammy is right....the grind of the traveling in rock music. He's human... just like yourself...I hope the best for him..... but the blessings is the music....its awesome...its even after you leave this world .... for future to hear generations
AVH adding or not adding the Hagar era in the book was up to him. I'm indifferent to do it. He has a reason, he stated it, and I agree with him. He also later stated that it would've turned into mud-slinging that wouldn't stop, so leaving it out seems like a mature, calculated decision. Personally, I would've liked to read some fun stories about the Hagar era, but moaning about it not being included is silly.
I never understood why these huge bands like Van Halen or Aerosmith etc... don't just recruit a 2.0 version and continue on. Like a brand name rather than two or three remaining guys taking it to the grave with them. It may not fit for all occasions, and I certainly get the arguments against, but for some bands I think it would work out just fine.
When I think of Van Halen I think of David Lee Roth, Michael Anthony, Eddie and Alex Van Halen.. but man I can’t deny the hits Van Hagar made… dreams, right now, humans being! I used to play the hell out b side of the best of album
Yep, Van Halen would probably have ended or did Here and there stuff but not solid a presents like Hagar benefited them. In this life forgiveness plays a major role in the healing process.
Alex has disappointed, after Edwards death Alex has showed his ass towards most of the Van Halen fans, the treatment towards Michael Anthony relinquishing all his ownership into Van Halen clearly indicates raw hatred and unpleasant consequences
Hey Sammy, the book was called “Brothers” not about some hired gun who put out some decent albums for a part of VH’s history? Even DLR would keep his ego in check over this one?
You can say what you want about Sammy. I've seen his band with Michael Anthony and Vic Johnson (which really was the best Van Halen representation), The Circle (which was pretty damn good), and the most recent VH tribute tour. Sammy never phones it in, he's incredible for his age and fuck anyone that says otherwise. I saw the original Van Halen in the early 80's, as incredible as the recorded material was, the band was pretty loose. Eddie revolutionized rock guitar playing more than Chuck Berry or Jimi Hendrix, but the VH performances with Sammy were much tighter with Sammy than with Roth, even though the original material was better IMO. I'm saddened if Sammy doesn't come to Pine Knob Michigan anymore but he always gave me my money's worth! Van Halen was certainly more revolutionary than solo Sammy or Montrose but performance wise VH weren't great.
I watched about 30 seconds of some video of Hagar doing a Van Halen tune with the Kenny G of guitar, Joe Satriani. It was the worst sounding music and I was shocked that people really pay to hear it. They all look old as hell and sound even worse. 80 year olds acting like they're 25 is disgusting. Alex Van Halen on the other hand, sounds and looks like a retired Antwerp diamond dealer. He's comfortable with his station in life and it shows.
Sammy doesn't need the money. His tequila biz set him up way beyond the music. So, he does the shows because as he said he likes to perform and were lucky he still does. Being a fan since Montrose, its always a great show especially on stage at Cabo Wabo!

I LOVE SAMMY HAGAR!
Seems Like Alex was sending a message in his book by not acknowledging the Sammy & Gary years.
Hearing a 75 yr old talk about the future of his career is both weird and cool af at the same time lol
You go Sammy! Good for him! 🤘🏻✌🏼
Sammy doesn’t need to explain ANYTHING he has my total respect 🫡 I will always respect him in anything he does bless you Sammy keep on rocking 👏🏻🙌🏻👍🏻💯
He's almost 80 years old. He can't do it forever.
Good for Sammy! His time with the band was epic! Def a part of my life!
"epic" = pink hat, girly top 40 garbage.
Sammy was the Red Rocker.... Montrose....only number one for Van Halen!
Sammy
WOW! Exciting. This is every post from Hagar.
I saw Sammy last summer and I agree with him that he should kick back and not go through the grind of touring anymore. His singing wasn’t as strong as it’s always been which is understandable.
He sounded great in Cincy.
Why would an 77 year old billionaire be focused on his "career"? BTW, I hate that he screwed over Jason Bonham.
I can see why he never stops, its clearly keeping him young
"Get busy living or get busy dying"
Listening to classic rock radio, I only hear classic VH songs. Never Van Hagar. Those late 80s early 90s pop rock songs didn't hold up.
LOVE YA, COOL SHIRT😊❤❤❤
Last time I saw Sammy he was on stage with Alex and Eddie Van Halen. 1 last time would be awesome!
I've toured. Doing it at 77 is crazy.
Love Sammy. Who wouldn't want to go to Vegas AND take in a concert, see Sammy, Joe, Michael, Kenny, and Ray at MGM?
FYI: Sammy has a private plane.
God bless you Sammy. You're an honest man. Also shame on Alex. I'll leave it at that.
Van Halen > Van Hagar
He does not owe his fans anything. He's created some great music. I'll tell you, I would have retired a long time ago.
He still sounds amazing live. It's incredible for an almost 80 year old!
A great musician and tons of tunes. Regardless of whether you like the VH years the songs for me were awesome. But as a solo artist he has put out great music. Nothing left to prove just sit back enjoy the rest of the days ya have!
There's Not an APP for That Sammy Hagar. You Keep On trucking Buddy. LOVE PEACE & JESUS
Sammy is awesome!! always a great show and very engaged with the fans
Last time I saw Sammy was inn December '24. Although he's still sounds *amazing* for his age, this was the first time I saw him struggling to hit some of the higher notes. There were a few times where Mike had to take over.
There's a saying. "You've earned it."
alex is still pissed off about Sammy telling Eddie F-you, when Ed lied about Anthony. AVH needs to get over this.
The guys in the band aren't getting any younger either. I'm 65 and with you all the way. Do what you gotta do.
I’ve lost so much respect for Sam. I think he’s just as egotistical as Dave but hides behind this persona of he’s just an Everyman. If Sammy didn’t come along VH would have succeeded with whoever.
If Sammy retires. He deserves a peaceful one. He has left a legendary legacy.
Sammy makes me look old, and I’m only 44!
Pretty pathetic.
You deserve it Red Rocker \m/
Sammy is right....the grind of the traveling in rock music. He's human... just like yourself...I hope the best for him..... but the blessings is the music....its awesome...its even after you leave this world .... for future to hear generations
He's damn near a billionaire if not actually one. He'll be fine.
The only guy in this band who's never pissed me off is Mike.
Saw Sammy on the best of both worlds your last year. He was awesome.
I can certainly see why people do residencies in Vegas, despite the fact that it's on us to go get on a plane and go to the show.
He wrote some funny ass shit about Eddie van. Funniest shit I've read in years.
Great points.
His book is pretty good. He made a lot in music, he made more in tequila.
Doing live gigs is soooooo much work!
Alex has disappointed, after Edwards death Alex has showed his ass towards most of the Van Halen fans, the treatment towards Michael Anthony relinquishing all his ownership into Van Halen clearly indicates raw hatred and unpleasant consequences
Alex is gonna write a second book on the hagar era.
I think he's doing it right..
Hey Sammy, the book was called “Brothers” not about some hired gun who put out some decent albums for a part of VH’s history? Even DLR would keep his ego in check over this one?
You've got neon lights, trusses, a proper desk top microphone. How about some echo control? You sound like you're recording in your basement.
THE RED ROCKER💪🏼💪🏼✌🏼🙏🏼
Sammy Hagar. He’s human. But he’s still a great person. One a smart musician should look up to.
Always a Class act. A motivational guy.
ANALOGIES HEAR,NAMES, ART, MUSIC AND NUMEROLOGY. 😮😊❤❤❤
You never know how long a Rock band is going to tour for some do it for 20 years. Some do it for 50 or 60 years.
Sammy doesn't need the money. His tequila biz set him up way beyond the music. So, he does the shows because as he said he likes to perform and were lucky he still does. Being a fan since Montrose, its always a great show especially on stage at Cabo Wabo!
