Always remember to unplug the battery before messing with any wiring and in all conditions make sure the battery wires never short each other I have seen holes burnt in steel scissors with much less voltage and current i.e. Be carefull and know what your doing before you start or at least what to expect. Gold plugs are best and direct solder where you can it optimum but often not needed.
IMPORTANT: If you DO decide to futz about with the old controller know that the capacitors in those hold power for quite some time and if you cross the wires you'll get a nice big spark.
Hey John. Would you know if there is a difference between the 279 and 279s controller? I left my scooter on the porch by mistake and it rained. I replaced my 279 controller with a 279s from Voro and the rear motor isn't working. If I swap the leads from front to rear the rear will work. Voro said its not compatible if I didn't buy the scooter from them. Thanks for any advice

Do yourself a favor and solder the six connections; it's a tight fit with all the wires and they're prone to disconnect when putting deck cover back on.

the version is 41 and 61, not 411 and 611. 41 version and 61 version is exactly same if you don't plug the grey speed limited wire between the controller. When you plug the grey line to each other, 41 version controller limit to be 25km/h, but 61 version controller limit to be 23km/h. Only this difference. So series number not must be problem with "41" start. It is wrong idea. The spider first lot has some problem about controller with "41"as beginning, "DS" in the middle, and the range is about 0001-0500. About 500 controller has some default. After 0500 should be safe. And even within or near 0500, the inside PCD of the controller has been replaced already, so even some "41....DS....04XX" controller could run smooth without any problem. Our stock of "41...DS...1102" is right one with right board inside to run in good condition. Very few controller after 05xx can has problem as minimotors said they change every controller before delivery.
For the price that dualtron scooters cost you think you would use a soldered mr60 connector for the phase wires. 16-14g bullet connectors from auto zone don't quite have the current handling that you need. For a scooter costing in the thousands of dollars,I think you can find the few bucks for a decent connector. This stuff blows me away. You would think these companies would know this stuff.
Hi Wol Tee. There were a few early Spiders that were produced with a bad resistor which this one might have had, but I am not sure how to diagnose issues within the motor controller. Maybe someone else can chime in here if they have insight on how to do so.

@@alexey0cherepanov Check all of them... there arent that many lol. buy a multimeter, put it on the setting that looks like a speaker, touch each end of the resistor with the probes of the multimeter. If it doesnt beep or show a value, replace.
Sorry but that's NOT the way to soldier the terminals. You are suppose to tin the wires FIRST then put into the connectors, crimp a little, THEN heat the connector adding more solder so that it fuses the tinned wire to the inside of the connector. And you're suppose to also use a heatgun to shrink the shrink-tubing.
Man all these dualtrons seem to break down some how within 1yr! For how much these guys charge the scooters should be problem free for atleast a cpl years shit. Screw their steep prices.

I would unplug the big negative black From the battery first to open the circuit and go ahead and plug it into the new controller first with heatshrink just to secure it and assure it doesn't short. Last plug in the red from the battery after everything else is connected to power the controller. Assuring the battery is disconnected during the entire operation no matter what you plan on soldering or plugging safety first ;-)

john, why would you solder that connection again? a controller is something that may go out again and youve only got so much cable length to strip.

You don't give a new Thermal Paste? this white substance under the controller.
