I have a traxxas stampede xl 5 2wd with stock gearing. It came with a optional pinion gear and when I put it on, it goes to take off slower than It goes faster. I want it to take off fast and go 30+mph.
Zach Attack2016 fraid you can't do that buddy. You trade acceleration for speed and speed for acceleration. If you wanna have good acceleration but go 30+ mph, don't waste your time on brushed systems, go brushless.

I'm running VXL Rustler with Losi 3S 3200 mAh 11.1V Lipo. with anaconda tires ( front and back) I cant seem to find good gearing for things like grass runs in yard and dirt, all gearing i use, it tends to overheat motor even with lower throttle usage. I'm currently running 76/31, gr8 gearing for 75 mph runs but it burns up motor in grass/dirt. Please reply if anybody knows good gearing for me, remember info above ^_^ thanx.
the rustler wont hold up. i up graded my brushed 35 mpr to a 75 plus mpr and every time i drive it it brakes something with in 5 mins if even that long.
I really enjoyed this video i was just looking around on youtube for upgrades on this rc car but this was really helpful my gears would always get messed up but now i can properly align them etc.
+mathew wilkie You'd need a very powerful motor for that something like a castle creations mamba monster the stock motor probably won't turn that and a VXL motor will probably have a very hard time and burn up
@@mikelester5416 Two different trucks. The Slash is much better overall RC especially Off Road. But Rustler VXl are just faster top speed. My Rustler also runs over 70 mph with the same gears. My Slash Fox edition is stuck in the mid 50's and struggles vs my 1/16th New HYPERGO brushless 4X4 basher on a 3S.

I just bought the brushed Rustler version, but I have 60A ESC 4000kv+ motor and 2S 60C 5,3Ah battery that I'm gonna use. Bought additionally 76T spur and 28T pinion gears. Will I be able to reach at least 60 MPH with such upgrades and will the stock (non vxl) transmission hold this up in one peace? What are Your thoughts?
RyanShelton63366 The bigger the pinion, or the smaller the spur (or both) the faster you will go, but the less torque and power you will have low end for taking off. The smaller the pinion, or the bigger the spur (or both) the more power and torque you will have but your top speed will be slower. You Do Not Want to run a 31/76 set-up for bashing. That is gearing for optimum speed, not stopping and going. Try 28/83, this gives the best of both worlds

@gudrn It says to run it on large smooth areas. Ofroad is large but definitly not smooth. If i were you, stay stock.

My spur gear is striped can't even get it off
dermal tool cut over the top of the screw real easy

unscrew the slipper clutch screw all the way out
about half way you have to hold both tires an unscrew the slipper clutch screw
