Amazon carries a bunch of these but some have a much higher price. Just check before ordering! amzn.to/3siY5Yu
I got into this whole thing as a hobbyist trying to maintain my game collection and that's something I've noticed about the cheaper tools - the thermostats are just bullshit, turn them up. I don't know whether it's the thermal properties of the metal or whether the temp gauges are just lying, but I always have to crank them. One thing I've learned with my iron + wick, and with having scorched a few boards, is that I absolutely hate desoldering ;-) Looking to find better tools, so thanks for this vid.
This is a Chinese clone of the well-known Goot desoldering gun. Get and use the right size (diameter) tip. And always clean out the tip when finished. Oxidized solder in the tip will be very hard to remove. Thanks for the video.
Very cool. That thing looks like a straight-up copy of the Hakko, but with a much nicer stand. I have the Hakko and it's a dream to use, but that thing looks pretty great.
The stand is a bit crazy :) Indeed no complaints- works beauty
Pretty interesting tool, Eric! 😃
Fantastic review!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks, you too!
Thank you. I just ordered an almost identical unit from AliExpress. Looks like a good unit, we’ll see!
Great review
The Stainless Steel tip on those doesn’t conduct heat nearly as well as a soldering iron’s copper tip, therefore you need the extra temperature to melt the solder.
You must chose correct diameter tips for large paths .Also You must press more short time to vacuum trigger (1 -1,5 second is enought)
Okay there bud
@@MkmeOrg I was used nearly 5 year this kind desolders. Look how was used Dave (8 yeard old video)

For around the same price you can buy a (made in China) Aoyue 474 soldering station. The quality of the Aoyue stations is a actually very good. Well built and performing stations.
If add some new solder to the joints you're sucking, this will be easily 100% more effective.
Feels like this was designed for 220/240v and it just barely running at 110v, the sound of the pump sounds a lot quieter than when watching a review by someone in the EU or UK. I think a lot of these are designed for factory use in China and the thinking is ... well why not sell it on the open market? No redesign required since it's very simple, just stick on the appropriate regional plug. It'll run safely on a lower voltage, just cooler and weaker, probably why you had to crank up the temp.
Actually works perfect for me
Why bother redesign just for the us? It's pointless when like literally every non north America country uses 240v
@@anonymouswhite352 I do not know where you got that from. Almost all LAtim American including Brazil uses 110, Japan, Phillipines, US, Canada, etc.
It is scorching the board.
trying to suck solder out of a big ground plane is a hassle. you can try pre heating the entire board with hot air, not burning anything of course. then after a minute or so with some heat, youll get nice results
1. It is required to wet lead-free solder on modern boards with ordinary lead + flux
2. choose the size of the nozzle of the tin pump according to the size of the the contact
3. hold the gun from the bottom and the board from the top so that the tin pump does not pull the solder out of the hole of the board, and the solder itself slides down into the nozzle.
4. polygons with high heat capacity require a longer waiting time for heating by nozzle of desoldering gun
5. it is better to connect the pump motor to an external power source (and adjust the voltage and current on the motor), because the internal power supply of the motor on a triac from 230v is complete nonsense
the units like this that i'm seeing on AliExpress are 50hz. i see you're in ontario. did your unit say 50hz on the box or did you find one that was 60hz?
I ordered 110V. I recall seeing discrepancies like that but if it has North American plug- it will be just fine.
I got mine a month ago. It puts a smile on my face every time. I have probably pulled 200 caps out of boards by now and I have had no problems. The amount of ChemWick I will save in a year will pay for itself. $100 U.S...no brainer.
Same. It works so damn well I still get surprised
I bought one of this desoldering guns maybe 6 years ago, I try to use maybe two times before to return to the box, I don't like the nozzle, is imposible to tin the tip, mine comes with steel tube inside.
I am thinking to remove the steel tube and change for a PCB copper eyelet.
My primary desoldering gun is a Hakko 808, I love it, more than 10 years without any problem.
Two weeks ago I bought one Yihua 948, works very well after do,a minor mod in the collector spring inside the chamber.
Best Regards.
@@treadmillrepair754 Why do you need to tin the tip?
@@richysradioroom Tin the tip makes the heat transfer much better, is the same if you are using a soldering iron.
Anyway I am waiting for the Cooper eyelets, I try to remove the steel tube and change for the new one and do some test.
Take a look for the Yihua 948 is much better in every way.
In few das I will do a small video showing both S-993a with my mod and the Yihua 948.
Please take a look of my channel.
Sorry for my english.
Best Regards.

Thank you sir.
Most welcome
the solder mask is visibly degrading from the hot tip....
In a nutshell.. yes.. very much worth the money, the only thing better is something like a hakko worth multiple times the price
Its good for arcade boards?
Or just hakko fr?
Hakko FR301 is much better tool
This Goot clone is almost same price as the original one!
i destroid many xbox motherboards so i gave up on soldering and
and what scroeffie? and what?!
Sorry, I can not recommend this. After using one hour, (setting on 390 degrees) the heater element became an open circuit. Then I ordered a new heater and again the same problem. I won't spend any money in buying again new spare parts.
Cheap? i get that the hakkos are like 300$..... but anythign over 100$ is far from "cheap"
but cool, thanks for the info and review... when i have the money to buy such an expensive product, i just might get one! ive wanted one for a while, but the high prices have always stopped me from getting one. this might be doable some day.
Am I the only one that finds the fact it has no on off switch a deal killer? $130 and no ducking switch? Gtfoh
You could pay $460 for a Hakko with no ducking switch either I suppose
This is NOT a cheap desoldering gun. CLICK BAIT! NOTHING TO SEE HERE!
Wheres a cheaper one then
STOP putting background music to videos with *narration* .. it ONLY makes it HARDER to hear what you are saying and is VERY distracting ... EVERYONE STOP DOING THIS.. we are NOT here to listen to music !!
th-cam.com/video/dQw4w9WgXcQ/w-d-xo.html
I watched this, sorry to say you have no idea what you are doing..you should resolved or reflow the solder joints first...then you can use the desoldering tool ..like to see you use it on unleaded solder...have fun with that..
I'll make sure to resolved it better and careful running 'er on unleaded... Don't want her to detonate
It's soldering. Not fucking soddering.
S-993a and S-998-p are a complete garbage.
Avoid these guns, if you want a good cheap throughole desoldering gun buy the Yihua 948.
i destroid many xbox motherboards so i gave up on soldering and
Never give up
If you are in budget and need a throughole desoldering tool, take a look for the Yihua 948 is much better in every way.
Inclusive more cheaper than S-993a.
Best Regards.
how did you destroy them? too much heat? if so try to use less time on the board
