Guru Pathik talking about the four elements while Toph is literally inventing metal bending is one of my favorite moments from the series. I get chills every time.
I know right......I mean she was going in....feeling for that earth.....broke it down and then BOOM! Before it was all over I believe she learned every form of Earthbending.
It's such a cool scene. And it even better when you realize that she is literally making history there, I mean she invented a completely new earth-bending technique on her own
Guru Pathik was the oldest living human character in the show. At age 150, he was one of the few known people to have lived long enough to have possibly witnessed both wartime arrivals of Sozin's Comet. Others are king bumi aang and appa
On King's defense he was told that the Kiyoshi Warrior can be trusted (Based on what Sokka mentioned) the king don't know the Kiyoshi warriors personally and for the king to differentiate Azula from the real Kiyoshi warrior is impossible.
I blame Sokka there. why would he not go see his girlfriend, even if it’s only to say goodbye? Just a bit of plot convenience, but the season finale was worth it lol
@@ssss6572 Also, if he had done that, and exposed her, Azula would've probably assassinated the Earth King then and there, and managed to escape somehow anyway...
E sure...but it’s still plot convenience in my eyes. It would literally take a couple minutes to wait for them at the throne room, they were already in the city.
Azula's line, "It's terrible when you can't trust the people who are closest to you", which she says to the Earth King, refers overtly to the fact that she, Ty Lee, and Mai are imitating the Kyoshi Warriors, in whom the Earth King places great trust.
This is the earliest I’ve been to an Imon Snow video and I’m eternally grateful it’s this episode. Sidebar: Anybody notice that Azula came out here to grab Zuko and Iroh, ended up at Ba Sing Se, and go “you know what, we’re here. Might as well conquer it.”
Conquering ba sing se was her intention when she took the kyoshi warrior clothes and this is her second try at it. The drill was her first. Her mission was to capture Zuko and Iroh but girl is ambitious and decided she wanted the avatar and ba sing se too.
melcassy64 right but I meant why she left the fire nation in the first place. Like she didn’t leave home to conquer. She was tracking Zuko and Iroh and the opportunity presented itself and she was like “aight let’s go.”
I know! It's such a beautiful and important thing to learn! That even if the people you love have passed away, their love is still alive inside your heart, and you haven't lost them. Just imagine hearing that as a kid, after the passing of a loved one. Or even later, as an adult. This show is just beautiful. 💜
Lol happy and optimistic Zuko unsettled the hell out of me 😂 Sokka reuniting with his father was so heartwarming!! Aang's chakra points runs from the top of his head to the bottom of his spine, which as you can see, his tattoo also runs down the same way. After so long, this episode made me realize what exactly was making his tattoos glow! I was mindblown lol! Toph is the greatest Earthbender in the world, and don't you ever forget it!!! Honestly, that whole scene with her discovering metalbending was just beautiful. From the music, the visuals, and the Guru talking - just perfect! And concerning what the Guru said about "letting go", I like to point out that he said "You must *learn* to let go". How I took that was not that Aang needed to permanently let go of Katara forever, but that as the Avatar, *if the time* ever came down to putting the world first, he would have to be able to do so. So trying to temporarily forget Katara for like 5 minutes wouldn't have worked. Aang really had to accept learning to genuinely let her go if the time ever came. So I think this was something the Guru could've better clarified. I think Aang wouldn't have been so conflicted or opposed to unlocking his last chakra as a result. Like Aang said, having an attachment and loving someone isn't a bad thing. It's very human actually, but how the Guru put it wasn't the best way to do so. Telling a kid to basically let go the love of their life, their happiness, just let it be forgotten because this was the end-all solution, really doesn't sound appealing or even right at all. Azula is out here playing everyone 👌
I think he still would've struggled since we see in later episodes he absolutely refuses to compromise with his ideals like not killing. Even when past avatars tell him to do something he refuses.
@@isiahblaise5245 Do remember that at certain point(right before he met LT) he actually understood and was willing to accept the idea of killing. It was brief and not very straightforward but it was there.
Michał Augustynowicz I do but he didn’t actually go through with so I usually don’t count that. He was willing to “stop” Zuko in the comics though so🤷🏾♂️
The connection of elements and nations that guru tells aang is similar to how Iroh explained to zuko about the balance of the four nations and how relying on these connections makes individuals stronger as well as the world
I always have such a deep appreciation for this episode because when I went through my drama school my voice and speech teacher had us exploring these very chakras and at the end of it he said “congratulations you are now the avatar” and from that moment on I forever loved him and see him as the best teacher I’ve ever had
Metalbending was alluded to by Aang when he offhandedly stated, "What I'd give to be a metalbender," as he tried to carve a notch in the hull of the Fire Nation drill with waterbending.
This episode makes one of three references in the entire series that the Earth Kingdom has any formal navy. The other references are made in "The Southern Air Temple" and in "The Earth King", when the Earth Kingdom Navy is searching for Team Avatar.
I just realized what the guru was talking about with the illusion of separation and how the four elements are all actually the same is exactly what the lion turtle was talking about in the series finale omggg I love this show 😩
The colors of Aang's visions for each of his chakras mirror the colors traditionally associated with the corresponding chakras: Red for the first (lowest), orange for the second (second lowest), yellow for the third (third lowest), through to purple, which coincidentally is the same order in which they are arranged in the visible spectrum, red having the lowest frequency, orange the second lowest, yellow, the third, through to violet, having the highest.
As for Katara's water "breaking" lol, she was bending and then Ty Lee chi blocked her so she couldn't bend anymore and the water just went sploosh Great reaction!!
This is the first time Aang openly admits his love for Katara. Though Aang visits all four air temples in the series, this is the only episode not to be named after the temple. He visits the Eastern Air Temple in this episode which is the first time he does since he was freed from the iceberg. The two Dai Li agents that bring Azula to Long Feng are the same ones that arrested him in the previous episode, "The Earth King"
This is my favorite individual episode of the series! The show fires on all cylinders. The chakra training is so amazing to watch and I get goosebumps everytime we see Aang walk towards himself in the cosmos. Metalbending! Sokka and his father! Katara getting captured! What’s not to love? Thanks for the double drop, guys!
The scene between Aang and Pathik is reminiscent of one of the Dagobah scenes of Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, in which Luke (Aang) leaves Yoda (Pathik) after seeing a vision of Leia (Katara) and the others in trouble despite Yoda telling him that this Jedi training must be finished before he leaves. Also, in an interview, Dave Filoni commented that Aang received very Jedi-like training.
Some satellite services, such as DirecTV, as well as Netflix, and in Canada, Telus, list this and the following episode together as one episode, under the title "The Guru; The Crossroads of Destiny".
Double wammy! Imagine having to wait until next week or next year for a new episode?! That was fun! The Guru was my second favorite HUMAN character after Uncle Iroh! Aang misinterpreted what he meant. When he said let go, he didn't mean forever.
Spoilers : He does mean forever and Aang does let go of her forever. By letting go he means that he can't chose to save katara over doing his duty as the avatar which is restoring balance and saving the world.
Also the more I think on it the creator of my hero Academia must have been a huge Last Airbender fan Shoto Zuko he even has a burn his face like Zuko and his father is a Firebender and also an a-hole and all for one is pretty much the Avatar state
This is straight up Empire Strikes Back Aang / Luke training with Yoda / Guru Pathak goes off to save his friends soccer Han Solo Katara princess Leia Toph chewy but his training is half done
Reaction people often overlook the line "Can I have some onion-banana juice please?" of Aang and exclude it in the editting. Am I the only one who found it delightfully touching?
Same. After that intense, emotional moment, he sounded so vulnerable! And he had grown too, he even was now happy now to have that little comfort of something to drink, even if he hadn't liked it at fist.

Me, too. I think it's that whole scene with the elements and the music and her hands on the metal figuring it out.
@@master007v In addition to that think of the subtle hints in the episodes prior where people talk about it including herself.
The Guru doing the VO in that scene adds to it's epicness.

The word pathik (पथिक) means a traveler or guide in Sanskrit and can also refer to "knowing the way or path."
Metalbending was alluded to by Aang when he offhandedly stated, "What I'd give to be a metalbender," as he tried to carve a notch in the hull of the Fire Nation drill with waterbending.
