I love the ridiculous amount of detail.
Christian Gentry This should be a thing.
Jzscrstsprstr Well, it's Gary Gulman's thing, now!
Christian Gentry I was thinking the same thing. This was Epic.
Christian Gentry thaaat was the joke...
sigalig
I'm glad that you 'get it'.
One of the tightest sets I have ever seen. Every word had purpose. And perfect example of the journey is better than the destination. The punchline was the setup
this guy is brilliant
Alex Gonzalez I second that!
Agreed. This entire bit deserved a better audience. The entire thing had me in stitches.
You never see comedians do one joke in narrative form. Absolutely amazing.
💯
Easily one of the best written and performed stand-up sets I've ever seen. Between this and his "State Abbreviations" set, he's a legend.
We might have different definitions of “legend”
@@porkchop3328 and we are all proud of you
@@porkchop3328 He isn't a legend, but that's only because, as Bukowski famously stated, "the masses are always wrong." If the masses knew what was up, this guy would be more famous than Seinfeld.
State abbreviations is one of the funniest things I've ever heard.
Wow you never hear Conan laughing at these guys. Even Gary turned around and was like "damn! sweet!"
adarkerlight Well the other comedian he laughs out loud at is Bill Burr. Can anyone guess why? Bill and Gary grew up in the Boston area, and so did Conan. A lot of funny and wicked smaht people come out of the boston area dude, kid, chief, guy!? :)
Ephinecko Films my boys wicked smaht!
Ephinecko Films or he gets their humor more
Conan laugh when Gary turned his face for the camera and audience could see his profile very jewish like, and that's why Conan laugh so loud cause it was genious and very unexpected lol
I was laughing out loud at that too :D
@@ussjealousy
And boy is it a mile-long hook!
I totally forgot he was telling a role playing story. 😂 I got so caught up in it.
Omg same!
Same here
Both his sets on Conan did this to me lmao
"What was the median grade? Good question that nobody asked."
This whole set is just one giant sequence of toppers. Brilliant. This guy is awesome
Gary Gulman is top 5 most original comedians that ever attempted stand up. This was amazing.
I loved hearing this in Joker, recognised it immediately.
I was laughing when that scene came up, because I knew exactly what he was going to say
@@ISaidLetLoose The guy next to me wondered why I was so excited when he came up
Same here. My friends didn't know why I was this excited. I have watched this routine so often. I recognised the small adjustements they made for the movie (office hours are not by appointment there).
This guy and Sam Morril botha are great
Yes! And I had no one to comment, my friend would not urderstand.
This guy's delivery was PRO! loved it 😂
“That’s not how we measure extra credit”
Then the jab at UMass
Conans random laugh lmao
He is a master at intelligent, multilayered comedy, and this act is a good example!
When you hear Conan laugh you know you’re freaking hilarious
Might be the nerdiest dirty joke I've ever heard.
He worked as a teacher before he got into comedy.
These are some of the most artful, perfectly written monologues in the history of stand-up.
He is still brilliant...why he isn't a household name after all this time I'll never know.
Hairmetallurgist Unfortunately he's too smart for the average audience. The people want raunch and "easy" words to understand.
He really is a tremendous talent
It doesn't help that he takes ages to write new material.
He talks about it in his new special if you want to know. He's had severe depression his whole life and basically fell apart a couple years ago. But he's back on the mend and seems to be just as funny
@@dancetyson I can relate to that
Really funny, hoping to see more of him
Raymond Creamer He was on an HBO Special about a comedy tour a while back with Dane Cook
Raymond Creamer his special is on Netflix, check it out, its great stuff!
there is a new one with him :D
+Mattia Schmid Did you come back to this after watching the new one with him on conan? Because I did :')
Tabeer Khilji ye :D
This guy is at the top. He is so underrated. He should already be a household name. He deleted me on Facebook, and I'm still pulling for him.
Benji Arehart well at least yours was on Facebook... I love him but he went too far on a joke for me and I didn’t blast or curse him out but just mentioned that it was a little much. Not sure if he even received it but like you I still hope he makes it big time. Great comedian.
Gary Gulman Trivia: Gary was an actual teacher before landing his stand up gig! how lucky were those students he lectured!!!
Especially those ones he gave extra credit to
He's so smart, I love his wording and his thinking process, he's hilarious!😂
I've been a fan of Gary's for 8 years. Great to see him take his set to the next level.
I remember him from Last Comic Standing. he was ok. I felt like he was just a pretty face. He's REALLY come into his own. this was hilarious! So well written and delivered!
Gulman was hilarious on LCS! Remember when he looked over at Rich Little and said: "Rich Little, ladies and gentlemen" "Man of a thousand voices - ALL DEAD!" I was rolling on the floor laughing. Little had that 'I could kill you look' on his face and made me realize he had no sense of humor.
@@whyyeseyec By my recollection, he was by far the funniest comedian on LCS his season. I don't know if it was his year or the year Amy Schumer was on (were they on together?), but the winner was some zaftig Mexican-American guy who told tired stereotypical jokes and I wondered who in corporate gave the directive that this guy was to be the winner. Never heard from again.
Gulman isn't just a comedian, he is one of the greatest story-tellers I've ever seen. He pulls you into these fantastical worlds he dreamed up, and no matter how long the story is, it all ties together. References, sub-references, callbacks to other callbacks, it's all just genius. He is what's known as a comedian's comedian, which is evidenced by Conan's outburst of laughter. This is the guy that makes other comedians stand back in awe.
Goddamn what a glorious set up, he really drew me into this one.
"That's... not.. how we measure extra credit."
Imagining him actually drive his girlfriend mad with this sort of role playing is just so incredibly funny to me 😂
"She broke character." 😂
Loved it, the asinine detail reminded me of Norm MacDonald!
indeed!
Gary Gulman is actually funny though
@@MultiBallchinian Looks like someone doesn't own a doghouse
@@philippweisang what a battle axe he is
Rest In Peace
This guy is AMAZING. He is one of the funniest comedians I have ever heard.
Gary Gulman is a comic genius.
The fact that he manage make Conan laugh loudly Gary must’ve been like “DAMN I ACTUALLY MADE CONAN LAUGH LOUDLY” 😂
I had completely forgotten this wasn’t real til he gets to the “when I have tenure”.. then I thought,” wait, this is all make believe”😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😆😆😆😆.
That’s how good he told this joke. It was multi layered.. jerk!!!
Gary is absolutely brilliant, I've been a fan for a long time! He's as good as it gets, don't know why he's not more popular! Maybe a little too cerebral for the average bear.
Yes. Too cerebral.
1:41 the moment he looks at the camera and holds the stare. Now that's a comic with craft. It's good to have you back Gary, you make comedy a better place.
Ah, the bit that Sold Me On Gulman. I mean, "Lewis." Good luck on getting tenure!
Fantastic writing, really helps to separate the wheat from the chaff. You can get a sense of who can suspend their disbelief in multiple degrees and who can't from the comment section.. Very well done! Role playing is fun. cheers
Gary Gulman is one of the best comedians in the United States. His writings are so highly intelligent and the performance is out of this world. This is one of the smartest comedic performances I have ever seen. Wow.
As far as his amount of detail, it's because he is a brilliant writer. And he knows how to deliver what he works very hard at writing. There's all kinds of posts online where he talks about how he works at creating his material and gives tips for people who are working to be comedians. I've seen several of his live shows and spent some time talking with him after one of them. He is such a real and open and sweet man. He likes to interact with his fans.
One of the best joke writers out there right now. Keep killin em Gary!
I saw him do this bit live, and it became dangerous. I was literally hurting.
Gary did this in around 2018 as his closing bit at Denver Comedyworks - it was transcendent
Gary’s such a great story telling comic. I remember loving his bits when he was on Last Comic Standing way back
This guy is amazing. After discovering Chappelle, Burr, and Louis Ck I didn't think I would love another comedian, but this and his special "in this economy" is pure gold.
No one can take something and run with it like Gary Gulman.
Love it! Every time I hear this bit it's a little different. Funnier every time. Good on ya, Gary.
A little bit of cologne today. Not so much that it's wafting off into the Dean's reception area, but enough to know that if you get close, you know he came to play today.
when he made a joke about the math department that was when i knew
This guy never fails. Brilliant. Relevant. Got to see his act.
This guy is hilarious- so many layers of detail, loved it!
i highly respect that he went all the way
so well structured and detailed Love it.
conans laugh at 1:55 ahaha
Quite possibly my favorite comedy clip.
Love Gary! Just saw The Great Depresh...again. He's so underrated!
Earlier today, I watched that special on HBOmax, primarily because his other 3 specials were on Netflix but they took them down!
Gary's bits on the grape and Fig Newtons are AMAZING. He is a master story teller
This was my favorite by far🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant! One of the best written bits I've ever seen!
This is unbelievably good, incredibly unique and needless to say, beyond funny.
I think his set on the committee that decided the two letter state abbreviations was even better. He's great.
The prof/student who'll do anything to pass trope is abundant. Funny how he weaves it into a role-play.
I love him sooo much
I just found this guy ! I'm gonna binge today !
The genius of this man's act.
absolutely amazing content! very well done!
Hes always great. Such a clever well delivered funny bit..
this guy has been killin it for years, he's still got it 100%
I love Conan's laugh cutting through that's the modern day equivalent of Johnny Carson laughing at your set
This and the state abbreviations are two of the highest detail and best story jokes I’ve ever heard
Had to come to TH-cam to watch the whole clip since Gary is releasing the clips one by one on Instagram. This set is perfection and it bothers me that the audience doesn’t seem that into it! Every bit of this set is so smart and hilarious!!
This guy is hilarious.
This guy gets better and better every time I see him, well done
This guy is *so* good, no wonder Conan became a huge fan.
oh this guy is good, first time one of these has made me look up the person for further clips
This is a masterclass in comedic writing!
Talk about a way with words!! This guy is the shite!! Love his take on storytelling!
I only recently discovered Gary. He is awesome. Plus, I love how the color of his shirt matches the color of the curtains. I wonder if that was deliberate or a "happy accident?" Nice touch.
This should have way more views. It’s a masterpiece 🤣
That was genius.
The amount of detail is so funny
Immediately recognized this set when I watched Joker haha such a perfect joke
that was great couldnt believe how good he is
one of my favorite comedians:) hilarious.
One of my favorite skits ever:)) Love you Gary!
I've never seen this guy, but I already love him! :D
THAT WAS GREAT!! XD Loved this guy!!!
Another masterpiece from Gary Gulman.
I miss his bit about Oreo double stuff.
Wow, this was fantastic.
That was really great!
This is the best joke I've every heard!
He's my fav comedian right now, can't get enough!!
This is pure comedic art. It's the art form at it's best.
Who came here after watching Joker?
Nah I came here after finding myself watching a compilation of Joaquin Phoenix talk show interviews, I guess it might have something to do with it though.
I recognized this bit literally when I heard it on Joker. i heard it so long ago and I'm glad Gary Gulman is getting some credit.
Me!
Me
Not me.
This guy is funny....two thumbs up!
He's just such a craftsman. Brilliant delivery and timing
2:19 that crazy look in his eye compared to his demeanor during the beginning of the story...oh my
He is SO good!
This guy is Top Notch. Brilliant. Such a pro.
Such a smart, funny & clever comedian
That was amazing!
Just. Absolutely. Brilliant.
