Really great review. The way you talk is so casual and comforting! I've been shopping around for some cheap headphones to get and I placed an order for these + the Yaxi pads after watching your video. They're coming next week and I'm really excited! Thanks again for your knowledge!!
They are dollar for dollar excellent headphones. I too was shocked the first time I used them. Surprisingly good sound quality for the price. Terrific value.
I love Koss but I gave away my PortaPros. After loving the KPH30i and having them blown out of the water by the KPH40, the rather dark portapro pales by comparison. Sure they’re great for 80’s music and some old radio country but they’re certainly no daily driver drivers 😉
Man, even with some good iems, k612 and edition Xs, portapro still sounds BIG, love them. Man, the lower mids for metal, OH MY GOD. The B o d y. Some vaporwave songs shine so much, holly crap
I have the Koss kph40 headphones with the Yaxi pads and I like them better than headphones I've had that cost up to 150 dollars. They don't look as nice as the Porta pros but some like the sound even better. Amazon sells them for 40 dollars. No matter which you choose, you can't go wrong. Truly superb value.
portas are my fave cant go without best casual non critical phat sound with the best highs (smoth jazzy) the bass is so deep and furry fluffy, man i produce dubtechno and use 701s, ndh 20, 660s a good triangle to check everything if i had to choose a pair portas
Hee hee hee! Yup. My interest in headphones renewed again a few years ago, and these were the first ones I picked up...for about $20. I now have multiples of all 3 low cost but great Koss, and have given many away as gifts. My favorite now is the KSC 75 mounted on a parts express headband with Yaxi pads. Can't believe the soundstage and detail of all these. Perfect? Of course not. Really enjoyable? Absolutely!
Just picked one of these up, the Yaxi pads too. I keep breaking the plastic headband on my kph30is and end up buying a new set over couple months. Hoping these with the metal band last longer. I still got another kph30i for backup. I really did their sound considering their price point
listening to this with my limited edition gold/black Portapros I just got... I haven't broke them in yet and the mids seem very muffled especially when hit with demanding music. Do they need to be broke in? My cheapest Audio Technica set (M20x) sound way, way better hooked up to my digital piano then the Koss so far.
I love the design, and they're hella comfortable. The sound is a little too bass heavy, but the stage is great and the resolution more than okay. The open design has pros and cons; the headphones are great for going outside without getting hit by a car. If you're still using the in ears that came with your smartphone, do yourself a favor. Below 100 bucks, you will barely find anything comparable.
i relate to you when you mention still using them even when owning (arguably) more premium/better sounding headphones. they're just really fun to use, which is WEIRD considering I first hated how bassy they sounded when I first got them, but I grew to love them after trying out more headphones as time went on. i will always defend these little guys when any snobby audiophile talks shit about them.
Ordered my Yaxis last night, I can't wait! Without them, my PortaPros have a unique flavor that's a nice change from time to time, but there's a certain frequency range where the details are just too muffled for my taste. I'm hoping the Yaxis will change that, based on what others have said. I was kind of hoping you'd go more into how they compare with vs. without these pads.
I wasn't that impressed with the porta pro they seemed to dark for me, I put them back in the box and forgot about them. Maybe when finally my cheap KPH30i get lost or destroyed I will dig them out as a travel backup. I used to buy extra KPH30i's for gifts to people who I need to emergency gift. Probably time to buy more since I gifted my last set a couple months ago but I haven't because normies want Bluetooth only.
That's fair. It's definitely not neutral-tuned, it's a bass-focused set. Doesn't work for everyone. But fortunately Koss makes those other 2 models with different sigs.

@@OkieDokieSmokie you can add some eq and will improve a lot. But yeah, they sound too dark by default.

One of my all-time favorite headphones that I use daily. 👌🏽
Simple truth. Makes perfect sense with 80's to 90's rock records

Loved the way you presented it. Thanks👍
Love my Koss and like yourself find reasons to use them...light, right and classic all round...

Have a pair of Ksc75, sub bass doesn’t exist frankly speaking, treble can be shouty, but everything is crystal clear, can’t beat 20 bucks.

Ive used these for 30 years. Just amazing and light weight too
Ksc75 kph30i clear and kph40 utility with yaxi pad bundle on the way . Haven't pulled the trigger on Porta pro yet

got my first pair back in 86 .have 3 pairs still :)
Does anyone know how to get Yaxi pads in the EU?

Just got them, cant wait for the yaxi pads! Do you think the yaxi pads improve the sound though?

How was your experience with Yaxi pads? Did they solve the muffled frequencies issue?
@@evergreatest7644 Definitely sounds better now!
Great video lol gotta give koss there props 👏 not the most resolving but damn are they enjoyable
I had a question, can you connect the koss pros to an iPhone with adapter?
I would be very surprised if it doesn't.
you can!
Does the yaxi pads help with sound bleed
I don't think so. I never A/B'd that aspect but the Porta Pro is never going to isolate much in either direction.
Koss ksc75 sounds better if you don't mind not having sub-bass.
does it have a in line microphone?
no
The new ones do
Zeos modded KPH-30i next?

"normies" -🤓
In the new utility series didnt they brighten it up?
I have a pair of these, taobao seller mod them into bluetooth headphone, more convenient.
koss with DLx4 Koss on their best bluetooth headphone is more comfy anf to my ears they sound better theyre 120 US dolars on Amazon
Why couldn't you be pricise? : « I think this is the K....». You must know what model you are using and talking about. [4:25]
