    I love this series' mix of CS building and the sharing of local knowledge and history. Thank you!

    If you haven’t done it before search up “The unbuilt highways of New York” it’ll reveal every project that failed, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island we’re spared and it could’ve been way worse in Queens and the Bronx but most of the highways were built in those boroughs. However the street scape in the Bronx and Queens is so bad to this day extremely wide roads, train tracks and yards and dilapidated neglected parks are in the place of unbuilt highways in those boroughs and what’s even worse is the Bruckner and Van Wick expressways are getting expanded right now while Brooklyn is pushing back against restoring the BQE to three lanes. Unfortunately Queens and the Bronx don’t have the representation BK or the wealth MN and SI has. In a ideal world Queens would have the biggest population by now but so much space is wasted on cemeteries and car centric infrastructure not to mention Jamaica Bay and the airports; that in our lifetimes we’ll never see Queens pass Brooklyn as Brooklyn grew faster in the 2020 census and in 2022 estimates queens is losing more people; but what even is more surprising is that the Bronx is losing as much population as them even though it has 1 million+ less people. Manhattan and northwestern Queens and Brooklyn are thriving because of their rezones and access to transit, the tri and quadplexes of southern Brooklyn and single family homes and duplexes that make up 70% of Queens aren’t desirable when you can live in an actual suburb that’s why Staten Island’s population is still the same as 2020 because it doesn’t try to be both a city and a suburb while Queens does. Furthermore due to how built up the Bronx is even to Westchester county cities you can make the case of building transit and removing highway infrastructure or decking over it but 70% of Queens resembles Nassau county so I think they’ll keep doubling down on car infrastructure.
    Also NJ has no weight in congress and their representatives bills will be thrown out considering the 2023 session is about to end and the people in charge of both democratic chambers are from Brooklyn, and the President is from Delaware and we Delawareans hate NJ too, not as much as NY though but I think next census we’re gonna steal a house seat from NJ since we passed 1 million people. 😂🤣🤣

      Queens is the only borough that pretty much forces you to drive.

    Here in the DC area, getting into DC in the morning on I-66 can cost as much as $40 😱 and there’s plenty of people paying that or companies paying that for their employees.

      That's wild. More folks should take the metro though I realize not everyone can

    The thing is, something as invasive as an interstate highway is a dividing line between urban areas. For pedestrians it is a hard border between two settlements. I can see why you shouldn't build it, and that is before the neighbourhood costs.

    Seeing all my favorite CS content creators rant about/ mention neolibralism in some way shape or form puts a smile on my face :). Conservatism and city planning is never compatible even in simulators it seems.

    Please mate, get The Ultimate Eyecandy mod and get that ambient light up and global down. It hurts my eyes to look at those unrealistic shadows and shaded parts of the buildings. Nothing is ever that dark during the day... your undertaking is quite a project, man, you should be so proud... it would be almost in vain to not help yourself with such little add-ons to take it up a few levels... I do apologize for being such a downer, your work is actually truly great.

      @ithinkyouknow  ปีที่แล้ว

      Before you give advice like this, understand that Ultimate Eyecandy hasn't been updated in over 5 years and is heavily deprecated in favor of other mods. Trust me, I keep very up to date on my mod situation...it's the only thing that allows to me to run such a crazy save.
      Yes, I agree, after my most recent mod swaps, my lighting is not the way I'd like it to be. Will work on fixing going forward.

    I'm a firefighter, I'm certainly not wealthy and I drive into the city, because I don't have much of a choice

  • @christopherstephenson7199
    @christopherstephenson7199 ปีที่แล้ว

    I hate it. I live in the city below 59th street and this means every time I need to leave the city with my car or go to one of the boroughs, I'll need to pay north of $45 when you include the bridge crossing tolls

    • @ithinkyouknow
      @ithinkyouknow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You live in either midtown or downtown Manhattan. This means you can either afford it, or shouldn't have a car at all. That covers probably 95% of people in your situation

    • @christopherstephenson7199
      @christopherstephenson7199 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ithinkyouknow That's the thing. That's not actually true. I was born and raised in Manhattan and was brought up working class. Most of my friends that I have known my whole life are children of working class immigrants from Latin, South America, and or the Caribbean. We have all strived to live up to the dreams our parents had for us when they made the choice to move to this country, and have been moderately successful enough that we can afford a car in Manhattan, but you also have to account for the fact that a lot of us benefit from the rent stabilisation laws in the city. So are we poor? No. But are we wealthy absolutely not. The best way I can describe it, is "Townys" who just so happened to have been born in Manhattan. Having a car represents our attempt at enjoying the American Dream our parents could only imagine, when they made the decision to move here and seek out a better life for themselves and their families. My point is, it's not as simple as saying poor vs rich. I could totally get behind this program if it did not penalize people who actually live in the affected areas, like myself. I would view that as a net positive as it would mean less traffic in my area. But as it stands for me and people like me, it is simply an additional tax that I'm forced to pay by virtue of being born and raised here, and having been moderately successful, and lucky enough to inherit a rent stabilized apartment, to afford to keep a car in the city. And taking it to a further conclusion. If enacted, it will probably be the tipping point that forces me and my family to leave the city, and my rent stabilized apartment, will then be put up for sale, as we live in a building that went coop 30 years ago, and sold to the highest bidder for somewhere around 1.5 to 2 million dollars. Therefore reducing the amount of affordable housing in NY by another apartment.

    How do you have almost zero traffic. I am doing a NY build and even with despawning off, all subway lines built etc, the city is choking on traffic.

      Aye then when your charged extra to get your fat self on a plane seat will you agree? We're taking the camera's down all over the place, so it's not that popular in London, Manchester, Glasgow etc like he said. The same with the stupid plant pots they put all over the place, restricting ambulances and fire engines getting to where they need to be quickly. They are getting moved out of the way! These policys are brought in, with no regard for what happens in reality. In reality we as citizens will just rebel against it. We seen first hand how policies have no regard for life or limb after Grenfell! We're not as tolerant of stupid laws anymore!

    They don't talk about how most congestion is caused by emergency vehicles in indle. Also how 55% of their billions goes into payroll, only 25% of their billions goes into actual repairs/services. How about talking about that? The MTA is a mob plain and simple (they also get paid by the TLC PER ride taken across ANY TLC vehicle regardless of service) and people like you allow it to happen
