I never got just how beautifully composed this piece was until I heard this. It's Wagnerian in its scope. Beautiful job. I'd see you do this live any day. The members of Rush need to hear this.
Cripes. The first time I watched this a couple years ago, I darn near passed out from forgetting to breathe. Watching again tonight, and I'm darn near passing out from forgetting to breathe, again! Truly, this is one of the greatest covers of anything I've seen on here. You could bury this thing in a Time Capsule, dig it up again in 10,000 years, and it would still be one of the greatest covers on here. As a guitar player (and a lousy one at that!), I don't often pick up much on the dynamics of piano players, but you really brought dynamic playing to life with this. Big Loud Parts, soft parts, and a Dramatic.....PAUSE!!! here and there! Truly Magnificent!
Absolutely haunting, dark, breathtaking, chilling, beautiful, mesmerizing and a grand tribute to Rush. Even more powerful a tribute to hear with the passing of Neil Peart. Outstanding work. Never heard a Rush cover played like this. I can see why commenters mentioned watery eyes. Thanks for sharing this!!!!!
Sometimes one forgets why you love something so much...and listening to this version has completely brought back the memories of how I felt the first time I listened to this song, more than twenty years ago, and how it completely blew my mind. Jacob's Ladder is a extraordinarily odd piece of music where all the contrasts find each other: mysterious and joyful; simple and complex; fast and slow; thoughtful and playful; long song with very short lyrics...you name it. It really makes me appreaciate once again the superb composers that Geddy and Alex are...and I really can't get started with Neil. Great, great job.
Holy shit...this is so beautiful! I always knew Rush songs had the melodic complexity to be easily adapted to any format other than a power trio, but you broke all reality with this arrangement, sir. As an all-time Rush fan, listening to this brings me so much joy. Thanks for doing this.
This is insanely good! I sang along as if it was the original. Inspired and complete. Would love to hear "Camera Eye ". Very talented sir...incredible.
I've always thought of 'Jacob's Ladder' as a very dark kind of tune and it adapts incredibly well to a piano arrangement because of all the minor chords, as evidenced by this video.
That was simply amazing! Beautifully played. A skilled piano player like this gentleman can take any piece of music, no matter what style it was originally written in, and break it down to it's core elements. Rush covers are hit and miss mostly, but this was fantastic.
I have listened to RUSH for over 35 years. I have NEVER appreciated this song like I just did as you played it. Thank you for opening my eyes..... um... ears.
Thank you for sharing your extraordinary talent with the rest of us. You could play that song in front of a crowd who didn't even know who Rush was and they would appreciate it. Well done.
I signed on specifically to compliment you on a friggin' amazing interpretation of one of my all-time fav Rush songs. You bring out the side of the song I identify with most... the slow but tense, ominous mood. Brooding, indeed. Played well, and with a clear vision of what the artist may have been hinting at. Remember, this is on the album that Rush were making a concerted effort to be more concise (brief) in their songwriting. Thank you for this.
We used to play this is a cover years ago and had a lot of fun with it. Your version have this brought tears to my eyes. Beautifully executed sir, I salute you!
I have no words to describe how much I'm impacted. The whole dramatic charge of the song was highlighted by the reverberation of each note. This is so fucking amazing, man. I wish Neil, Geddy and Alex had seen this.
I'm in competition for the biggest Rush fan out there, and I'm just hearing this for the first time. it's all been said before, but thank you from the bottom of my heart, beautiful tear jerking, etc send the luv, sincerely
...I cried..wept for the beauty of it all and thee nostalgia of my youth when I first heard this with old life-long buds 40 years ago.Bright Moments..thank you🌈
Every once in a while I get impressed by Rush covers and this is one of those times! Very well done and sent shivers down my spine. I could listen to these all day long.
This is great, it helped convince my guitar professor to let me do a guitar quartet version of this song! Seeing them do it live at the R40 tour really brought the song to life man!!
This is how you know Rush is a band worth listening to. When their songs translate so well, almost as if they were made to be played, on multiple instruments. That's why they're my favorite band of all time, their songs have this versatility that not many other bands can claim. And this beautiful piano cover just exemplifies my point. Excellent work!
this is the type of music i hear when i listen to rush,,,, i hear the fullness of their sound,, like you have expressed here in this version... the feel in its entirety great way to capture a performance good feel........**as the sunlight column shines down thru the darkness of the thunder head cloud formation the steps decending down to the earth as if to welcome you to climb the steps of enlightenment**. follow men's eyes as they look the skies , the shifting shafts of shining weave the fabric of their dreams**
Great cover. Had the Rush Deluxe Anthology in the early 80’s and also learned many on piano including this one. The only one I filmed was Broon’s Bane & The Trees
I love the original so deeply...but this is so wonderfully eerie and mysterious, and for some reason you can really feel the parts of the middle eastern influences that the original has kind of hidden. This is terrific.
Sir, I could never imagine a single musician could capture so many of the intricacies and just the overall power and the vibe of this song in a single performance. And I agree with you, it is an underrated masterpiece.. This performance has blown me right off the map. I must now learn to play piano.. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this..
From anybody that's had to study music history. You can see by the arrangement of how unique it is. It kind of fits part some classical although it almost has jazz or even ragtime. The thing is it's actually unique. Almost like theater music. When it's presented like this. It seems to not quite fit into any simple one category it just is more one-of-a-kind in the way of its arrangement timing and it doesn't seem to fit a lot of genres of music.
Thank you Vikram.I think that is the most emotional response I've ever had watching somebody play piano. Excellent interpretation of my favorite guitar solo. Also one of my favorite Rush songs as well. Would love to hang out and listen to Rush with you, fantastic job.
¡Gracias Vikram! Absolutamente hermoso y sorprendente. ¡Qué gran canción, qué grande es Rush! Has realizado un trabajo espectacular. Me conmovió muchísimo.
Another thing,....... lol. This shows the Grandeur of Rush. Im listenign to the 7 minute mark where I imagine the sun shimmering thru the clouids, and rain droplets falling off cactus, and desert flowers. Damn.... So good. Thank you for your cover, and thank you Rush for this masterpiece!
Just amazing. I always said if Neil hadnt worked out, Geddy and Alex could have done movie scores. Such drama. Great job. May I suggest Different Strings, on Permenant Waves as a follow up. Quick, sparse, lotta space. Or Tai Shan would be a good solo piano piece.
Can't believe this has been on YT for 5 years and i have never seen until now. You sir, are a genius! I have been listening to this song since I picked up my brand new copy of Permanent Waves on vinyl in 1980 and this is such a fitting tribute to Neil, Geddy and Alex's masterpiece and personal interpretation of one of their finest tunes in their whole catalog. The original version is a wonderously dark and soaring melodic adventure from beginning to end and you have captured its essence and have made it timeless with this arrangement. I am a guitar player myself and the guitar riff in the third section that starts at 6:14 in this video has always been an insane and fatiguing piece of finger calisthenics that I still use to this day as a warmup when starting a guitar session. I have driven many past band mates to distraction with that riff...thank you Alex! And thank you, Vikram! And bravo to you!
Wow this version blew me away , listening to it took me on a journey that was so enjoyable , you took an already dark Rush song and made it so much darker I loved it
Big fan of Rush here and you have done this amazing song sweet justice. I love your chord choices and tempos but most of all your musicality and inflection. You are so lost in the music, especially at 6:14 which is IMO the most beautiful part of the song. Well done. You are gifted and I’ll be checking out more of your videos.
Wow!!! AMAZING!!! This was probably the best thing I ever heard on piano. What an interpretation!!! Very good recording, excelent sounding piano and magnificent feeling. I could hear the whole band❤❤🖤
After 35 years of fandom, I somehow feel like I've just heard Rush for the first time. Sublime.
Wow, thank you so much!!
Seriously dude, this is a towering achievement among all of the piano covers on TH-cam.
Thank you so much!!
@@VikramShankarMusic that was amazing sir...thank u!!!! 🤘
Man, as a Rush fan for 30 years, I was so moved...brought me to tears! This is sublime.
This is my everyday therapy.
This piano version is really amazing and express how Rush songs are a unique legacy for the history of music.
I never got just how beautifully composed this piece was until I heard this. It's Wagnerian in its scope. Beautiful job. I'd see you do this live any day. The members of Rush need to hear this.
It sure is! Thank you!!
OMG! OMG!!! Why am I only seeing this now!! My eyes are filled with tears of joy. TH-cam, why do you hide these priceless masterpieces from me.
I know how you feel, I just discovered this 9 years after it posted.
Even without the words, the dynamics of this piece are visually stunning. A true masterpiece. Amazing skill on the piano. Thank you for this.

Man, I saw this a few years ago. It made me cry then, and now I'm ugly crying.
Absolutely beautiful.

Thank you so very much! I totally agree - Jacob's Ladder is a wonderful composition. Thank you for the kind words!
No true Rush fan can fail to be much moved by this. What a lovely arrangement!
Yes! Great job bringing out the brilliance of Rush’s composition. Make an album!
Holy shit...this is so beautiful! I always knew Rush songs had the melodic complexity to be easily adapted to any format other than a power trio, but you broke all reality with this arrangement, sir.

Wow!!! Exceptional! Your version turns that violent storm into a soft spring rain. Like an English rain.👍
Rush on
Thank you for highlighting/amplifying the beauty of this music. The chord progressions are sublime!
"At once, the clouds are parted, light streams down in bright unbroken beams" Chills.
This impassioned piano version should be on the soundtrack of some big epic movie.
That was simply amazing! Beautifully played. A skilled piano player like this gentleman can take any piece of music, no matter what style it was originally written in, and break it down to it's core elements. Rush covers are hit and miss mostly, but this was fantastic.

I'm speechless. Thank you my friend!
SImply Outstanding! May Neil look down upon you and bless you abundantly from heaven!
Fantastic version of an already fantastic song.
Absolutely broke me...Awesome and amazing rendition. RUSH will forever be LOVED! RIP Neil...you are missed.
Thank you for sharing your extraordinary talent with the rest of us. You could play that song in front of a crowd who didn't even know who Rush was and they would appreciate it. Well done.
Beautiful and so emotional. I loved how you made the piece your own while also capturing it's spirit.
Thank you!!!

Epic. Makes you look at rush in a different way. Awesome
Vikram's feeling it! That's the best when you're as much or more the listener than the player. Right on, Vikram!
I hear the Vangelis influence. Great job.
Wonderful to be so moved (again) by this piece after 43 years. Thank you!
Don't know how I missed this for so many years, but that was phenomenal and beautiful. Thank you!
Bravo! Watching and listening to this was a treat!
What a masterpiece. Beautifully done.

A beautiful interpretation, Vikrim. Side 1 of that album became my daily warmup exercise in the early 80s.
Usually I'm like uh....nah...but listened to the end. This was really lovely. Unpretentious. Thoughtful. A wonderful rendition. Thanks for sharing.

So amazingly great! Captures the original so well.
Amazing. You certainly did it justice. Bravo !!
