Knees are delicate and are expensive to replace. It makes sense to do everything you can to protect them, plus it hurts so bad to kneel on gravel it can take all the pleasure out of a days shooting. Another great video full of practical, common sense advice.
Another great review and application of philosophy, thank you. When I first joined the military 15 years ago one of my Sgt. had knee pads and I laughed at him. He then laughed at me as if he knew something I didn't. Fast forward 4 years I had many selections of knee pads. 10 years as an infantryman and you quickly learn what makes your job better.
I never liked wearing knee pads but recently I injured my right leg and knee in OEF and was thinking that knee pads should defiantly be a part of my evolving gear selection. Once I saw your recommendation, I found a set and purchased them in MC. Thanks for the service you do for all of us, rock on Nutn!
Awesome. I ordered these after my son recommended them, and they came in the mail earlier this week. I'd never been into kneepads, but I put these on, and I'm sold. They are great!
I purchased these based off of your review. They live up to all that you say and more. I had back surgery (Army injury) which left me with weak sensitive legs and these help me kneel on the ground. I cannot kneel in gravel and such without these. -Thanks for the review.
I am a contractor and when I was younger thought it was silly to wear knee pads. Now that I am in my 40's I realize that we do have a LCB. I am now paying for all those days I abused my knees. Wear them now while you are young! Nice video Nutn!
I've got the exact same kneepads in OD. Been using them for months and took them to several exercises. Very happy with them. Not too expensive and very functional. The only criticism would be that on my legs they tend to get below my knees and turn into ankle pads.
Just picked up a pair of these exact Altas' from Amazon in MultiCam to match TDUs and TAG plate carrier (thank's for last Thanksgiving's 'heads up'! Ordered some custom 11x14's and 6x7's IIIA's too)! Can't wait to get all the rest of the TDU's and assemble my 'tactical CLOTHING system' ('tactically squared away' on clothing/armor/protection gear!) and see how they hold up under some rough use! Thank's for always looking out for us subs! Can't believe 4 years( or is it 5?) has gone by!
been using pads with velcro and HATE them... cutting off circulation to my legs all the time. Ill definitely give these a try. thanks for the recommendation Nutn!
I've been contemplating on picking up some kneepads but I think I'm convinced now. Spend days at a time out hiking random offroad for geocaching. While I don't need them at all times, I do recall several occasions of scuffing up my knees that could have been prevented.
I just received my knee pads today. I purchased them based n your review and I am glad I did. They will really come in handy at the Firehouse, and on those Medical runs where I'm stabilizing the Pt. on they're kitchen floor. I can fit them under my duty pants if I want to conceal them from the public. I love that. Thanks, Arson.
Hey nutn, just had reconstructive knee surgery last month. Rehab sucks but have decided after all this its time to protect my knees. So I've just bought some of the alta knee pads after watching your video information. I consider myself an tnp'r as I watch all you're vids that you put out. Love all the mountain scenery you put in them as well. Allie rocks. Anyways keep up the good work.
Two of the best pieces of advice from Nutn are knee pads and gaiters when out on an 'off trail' hike. I had a buddy ask me why I use them while he picked burs out of his sock and later banged his knee on a fallen tree.
Great Video. I wear knee pads at work as a flooring installer. I once heard them called San Fran slippers. lol I still use them and totally understand wanting protection when sliding into position on gravel during your shooting scenarios.
great video as are always!i wish thier was someone out thier like you ,with all this helpful info , in my day.i look at your videos and think to myself i could get in shape and give you a run for your money.age is only a number, that i fell every morning. good job
I use these Alta Superflex knee pads with 5.11 8mm neoprene kneepad inserts for a little extra cushioning. However those thin neoprene kneepad inserts don't do much. I recently bought a pair of soft Alta Shockguard d3o inserts, and they're awesome. Taking a knee almost feels like I'm wearing my Alta Superflex external knee pads. Alta now sells Superflex pads with d3o inserts, and they claim up to 120% more effectiveness. That may be high but I believe they must be superior and will buy a pair.
You are SO right, Nutn. I hiked up Avawatz Mountain yesterday, and I'd set up camp the night before (lame videos to follow). I'm processing wood on my knees, of course, and I found myself thinking of your videos where your wearing knee pads. How ironic that I come back and you've posted a video specific to knee protection. And, roger...
@SleepyFox79 Nutn says he's not sure. He wore them over Mueller neoprene knee braces on a very recent trip with no problems..but not sure if its exactly the type of brace you are talking about. -- Veri
been waiting for this as promised. good vid. I have had mine for a year after seeing you use them. love em'. much more affordable than others ie. blackhawk, etc.
Exercise due diligence in searching for an online store for these. Prices range today, (1-15-11) from 18.99 (multicam!) all the way up to 34.99 . Also make sure they have them in stock. I ordered from two different suppliers and both back ordered them for over a month. I'm happy now...18.99 for Multicam plus 10.99 for Multicam elbow pads is best I have seen in a while.
I just bought a pair of knee pads for paint ball not long ago. I got a pair of condor, which also have the hard rubber shell. I like them so far, but they don't have the miles yours have. Time will tell. I often baseball slide feet first instead of dropping to my knees though, i think it saves on wear and tear.
to keep the kneepads from riding up, simply pull up your pant legs slightly when you put on the knee pads, this will give the pants a little extra clearance or fabric allowing the knee pad to stay in place.
Hey Nutn or Veri, maybe I'm missing something but I tried ordering these from USCAV just now and I put in your discount and the price came out for 18.00. GREAT! I then go to shipping and see that the only options I have are either 23 or 33. More than the product themselves! Unless I'm wrong, it's time to go elsewhere to buy these! Please tell me I'm wrong bc I want to support these guys. Thanks.
Whoever laughs at someone who uses knee pads just has no insight what those little things can provide... I don't want to miss them. A knee is shredded easily and will never heal up again to a 100% rate. So better protect them when it's necessary. I think I might try those Alta knee pads. I'm excited for new gear reviews!
One method to mitigate that knee sweat/heat issue which worked well for everyone I've come across in Iraq would be to only use the bottom strap. For most kneepad use, this will provide enough stability for the pad and remove the chaffing factor as well. Bulky pads = heat exhaustion.
awsome video! very good theory. i busted my knee once during football and i have problems out of it every now and then, def going to get some of these knee pads.
hey thanks for the review, ive been looking to get QUALITY knee pads, and if you say these are, ill take your word for it! also, as a nice benefit, these are also available in Europe where i live, on REASONABLE price.
I have a set of condor knee pads they kind of look like a turtle shell style hard rubber, the clips are nylon aswell. They are great almost the exact same as these alta ones. only problem is the straps are some cloth with elastics woven in. You should check them out.
when u 1st went into the POU of the knee pads,i went back into my memory banks and recalled what Bugget said abt them in High Skies...with them being "Breast Augmentation" and u said u wanted to look good on camera,lmao...good times, great review by the way...and at such an affordable price!
Knee pads are for everyday use. Yesterday I used my knees to push in a lazyboy recliner and I felt a sharp ass pain through my knees. first thing I said is "I should of had my knee pads on" on average days I at least where the neoprene ones thins
there's a d3o version which is that kind of inteligent material which is flexible and gets very hard on the impact.. a very good protection! you might want to check it out if you havent already
I want to thank you for making this video; I bought Altas because of this video, and they are the most comfortable pair of discrete knee pads I've ever tried on! I would recommend Altas over any other brand, except possibly the Arc'teryx knee caps if you need less weight (with less protection). Hey Nutn, do you use elbow pads? If so, can you recommend any brands?
Hey nutnfancy! Thanks for your thorough review. I was curious if you have tried out or any interest in trying out the Alta Shock Guard Knee Protector insert. It seems like interesting stuff. I was interested in your thoughts
Funny thing, I am here stuck at home 4-6 weeks non-weight bearing on my knee after having meniscus and chondroplasty surgery. So I am catching up on some missed Nutnfancy videos. This one hits home! Putting an order together for US Cav to get a pair. Thanks.....Love to get a review on hearing protection (ear muffs). Looks like at times you wear electronic ones.
Also love that the Alta Multicam fit's EXACTLY the Multicam/coyote brown look of the TAG plate carrier (multi/coyote MOLLE), the TDU pant's with coyote belt and TDU armor shirt(multi/coyote)......... Wish MY nickname was Coyote.... Dangit Bryan, hogging an awesome job AND an awesome nickname!lol
Hey, nutn! What's your opinion on DAMASCUS 'Vortex' knee pads? Is it something worth buying or no? I know they're expensive, but I'm willing to pay for a quality pair of knee pads.
Hi, I live in scandinavia and the winter temperatures drops to -30 ºC, are those nylon buckels durable in those temperatures too? Becaus usually everything plastic just snaps in real winter coniditions.
Alta and the Blackhawk version 2 kneepads are incredible. I prefer the blackhawks a bit more because they bend around your knees, but alta has a much better attachment system.
hey nutnfancy i just thought id let u kno that i got a pair of gloves u recommended through your video around when that 1 came out and i think i might go out and buy some of those knee pads 4 airsoft so thx for your awesome reviews and keep it up the good work
Hey nutn, can these knee pads be worn over an immobilizer style knee brace? the mueller brand ones, both of my knees are messed up and i need something i can wear over my braces so i dont tear them up, thanks and love the vids!!!! :3
Nutn - Great review and an excellent recommendation. I figure if you are going to purchase gear like this . . . go directly to the source for good info . . . I checked and there is no other review of this level discussing knee pads. Placed an order today . . . figured they would come in handy. CAVTNP discount covered half the shipping . . . all in all a good deal. 5/5 & ML
So Nutn, would you recommend these for a woodsball paintballer? I've been looking for some knee pads for my paintball loadout and these seem like they could fit the bill
Great Knee pads it was either these or the blackhawk knee pads. On kneeling the black hawk is a bit easier to flex and there are two lower rivets for the bottom of the rubber shell but for 35.00. Dollar for dollar and the strap system on this Alta Tactical knee pads. I used them on the first time on a 4day Front Sight Practical Rifle class. My bro did a pumpkin charge and a whole day shooting event on Alta Tactical Knee pads. Buy them.
The extended military ones are awesome also and its only like an ounce and a half difference we used em in iraq when doing gun truck duty cause during the bumping tall or short your knees shin or lower quad will bang into the bottom of the dash board wether in a humvee 5 ton or deuce and half
I ordered a pair of those airsoft pads, and they are too small. I am hesitant to order again. "Fits most" means it will be tight on me. I wonder if the Alta PROS run any bigger? Thanks bro. I know the importance, for sure.
Another great gear recommendation! I had not really considered knee pads, but.... My wife will not be happy to see this vid.. I will be acquiring these shortly.
You should check out the awp tactical knee pads. Very nice. Copped a pair at Lowes for less than 20. hard impact resistant plastic O D green shell. Digital camo nylon backing.
Hey Nutn , Dig the knee pads. Ever tried cutting the feet out of some long tube socks? Makes a decent liner for knee pads I bet. I wear knee pads in my work, but shorts suck when your crawlin in the rocks and dirt. And I have not blown a knee so my knee pad use is much more limited than yours. Hope this is helpfull. Your reviews sure are ! Thanks TNP
I hunt prairie dogs on the shortgrass prairie. To get in position I need to crawl along ridge lines over bare rocks and cacti. The first time I went out I was wearing tough clothing, but it didn't really matter. I got torn up. The next time I wore some hard skater knee and elbow pads that look a lot like these. Everything got much easier and more comfortable.
love these knee pads. They dont slide down your legs ever and stay tight. only problem is there are only three of the rivet things holding the shell on. The first time I used these pads i slid on concrete and and detatched the shell from the bottom rivets. So try not to slide on a surface that will catch your pads would be my only advice.
I play a lot of airsoft =P lol. But when I'm in the top of a two story building drowning in bb's on the floor and before I had these knee pads my knees wound be raw for a week untill I went to do it over again. Kneeling on tree roots, bb's, etc sucks with out them. These have only unlatched in 'combat' one time and that was because I had my knees close together kneeling on both knees and went into a full sprint to cover but it was easily fixed. I apologize for my bad grammar I didn't sleep.
I'm 12 and i play airsoft on a field that has sharp rocks which can scrape my knees. You got any good brands and types of knee pads than a 12 year old can use because I've scraped my knee before and it hurts!
@nutnfancy Dude I love your videos. Really informative I was wondering Do you wear any body armor when you do your tactical exercises? Any ceramic or kevlar? Im looking for some body armor and I want your opinion.
Self adjusting straps will solve a few problems, like no binding,no sweat,no gravel. Straps will convert all knee pads.look up self adjusting knee pads .

It only takes hitting the dirt, or crawling in gravel once to make you long for knee pads.
I bought a pair of these shortly after this vid was posted, they have stood up extremely well with very hard use. Thanks for the tip
Awesome. I ordered these after my son recommended them, and they came in the mail earlier this week. I'd never been into kneepads, but I put these on, and I'm sold. They are great!

THESE are the best knee pads. got them in acu and multicam.
Thanks Nut, I appreciate you taking the time - I don't have to do the trial and error. Bought me a pair for $19 at Smith and Edwards and they great.
dude so sweet that you did a review on knee pads. Been thinking of buying knee pads for a while now, thanks!!
been using pads with velcro and HATE them... cutting off circulation to my legs all the time. Ill definitely give these a try. thanks for the recommendation Nutn!

is this knee pad for an arrow hit?
yeah kneepads, an often overlooked gear item, they can be very handy sometimes if u like to keep ur knees

AGREE, while deployed me and my squad use knee and elbow pads there both life saver.
Thanks for making this fantastic in-depth review of Alta knee pads.
Just got them after your recommendation in Olive and i have to say they are great! Thanks for the tipp, mate! :)
I play airsoft and love it. I dont have knee problems but use knee pads to prevent knee pads
you use knee pads to prevent knee pads....sound legit!
cj5880 He meant he uses knee pads to prevent knees.
HardcoreAmericanUSA just go buy crye style pants with built in knee pads. its the best way
I just bought a pair of knee pads for paint ball not long ago. I got a pair of condor, which also have the hard rubber shell. I like them so far, but they don't have the miles yours have. 100% correct nutn. taking care of your knees and back are more important then people thing. great item to review. nice job.
Thanks for the review, Nutn' Found it helpful. What is your take on Kitanica gear? Any reviews planned?
nutnfancy's facial expression at 4:54 is priceless...I hope they'll be selling these knee pads at the PX when i ship out
The more of these videos I watch the less I understand why people loathe you. Keep up the good work
hey thanks for the review, ive been looking to get QUALITY knee pads, and if you say these are, ill take your word for it! also, as a nice benefit, these are also available in Europe where i live, on REASONABLE price.
Do the straps on these knee pads loosen while in use? Do you have to constantly tighten them? I wonder how the strap system works.
I have a set of condor knee pads they kind of look like a turtle shell style hard rubber, the clips are nylon aswell. They are great almost the exact same as these alta ones. only problem is the straps are some cloth with elastics woven in. You should check them out.
I've actually been waiting for this review for awhile. Thanks and two thumbs up! What's the usual life span for a pair of these for YOU?
when u 1st went into the POU of the knee pads,i went back into my memory banks and recalled what Bugget said abt them in High Skies...with them being "Breast Augmentation" and u said u wanted to look good on camera,lmao...good times, great review by the way...and at such an affordable price!
My team loves Altas, mainly because we can slide several feet on a smooth and hard surface.
more important than brand... HOW DO YOU GET THEM TO STAY ON? I've never got kneepads to stay in place...
$20!!!! that is a fantastic deal.
i dont think i would use kneepads more than once or twice a year but i think i will get a pair.
Been waiting for this review a long time. Thank you Nutn!
Would you recommend those knee pads for mechanics with knee problems?
Hey nutnfancy! Thanks for your thorough review. I was curious if you have tried out or any interest in trying out the Alta Shock Guard Knee Protector insert. It seems like interesting stuff. I was interested in your thoughts
Great review. For all the philosophy and background info (which I think is necessary for first review of some type) it's still under 20 minutes.
nutnfnacy's expression at 4:50, "i just took a crap in the woods, it was awesome."
Hey BroDog, you forgot about me. That's okay, you're a busy dude. Great, thorough vid. Thank you for doing the review. Long live TNP!
I actually use a pair of Dye paintball kneepads because they act as a knee pad and knee brace. Soccer and paintball did my knees in.
I have these exact ones! They rock hard!
I wish we had them when I was in the Marine Corps.
THANKS FOR ALL THE TIPS
will crossing the straps ....instead of straight acrosss give better stability..?????
Becaus usually everything plastic just snaps in real winter coniditions.
my multicam altas come with me every where i go in the trunk of my car. i also have knee problems so thats why but they are great knee pads.
Alta and the Blackhawk version 2 kneepads are incredible. I prefer the blackhawks a bit more because they bend around your knees, but alta has a much better attachment system.
hey nutnfancy i just thought id let u kno that i got a pair of gloves u recommended through your video around when that 1 came out and i think i might go out and buy some of those knee pads 4 airsoft so thx for your awesome reviews and keep it up the good work
Wow Nutn, you read my mind... I just ordered me a pair of Alta
I figure if you are going to purchase gear like this . . . go directly to the source for good info . . . Great Knee pads it was either these or the blackhawk knee pads. On kneeling the black hawk is a bit easier to flex and there are two lower rivets for the bottom of the rubber shell but for 35.00. My bro did a pumpkin charge and a whole day shooting event on Alta Tactical Knee pads. Buy them.
Love the end... "Do you need them? If your at your computer playing video games, probably not".
just a quick question, but do you think we would ever need MOPP levels? and how would you think we would combat this if it were to happen?
Good video. Knee pads are a must for me as a MILSIM airsoft enthusiast.
Hey Nutn ,

have you tried Damascus knee pads?
I hunt prairie dogs on the shortgrass prairie. To get in position I need to crawl along ridge lines over bare rocks and cacti. I apologize for my bad grammar I didn't sleep.
nutnfancy whats your take on the Hatch xtaks? Any experience with those?
sweeet, ordered myself a pair in MC to match my loadout about a week ago
"if you're at your computer playing video games....prrooooobably not" lol
great work as usual nutn
Just ordered some from optics planet along with the blackhawk gobox both ate on sale right now
Hey nutn, just wondering do you think these would fit a bigger guy?
I'm 12 and i play airsoft on a field that has sharp rocks which can scrape my knees. You got any good brands and types of knee pads than a 12 year old can use because I've scraped my knee before and it hurts!
@nutnfancy Dude I love your videos. Really informative I was wondering Do you wear any body armor when you do your tactical exercises? Any ceramic or kevlar? Im looking for some body armor and I want your opinion.
Self adjusting straps will solve a few problems, like no binding,no sweat,no gravel. Straps will convert all knee pads.look up self adjusting knee pads .
you airsofted..... my respect for you has just been raised

Veri, just went to US Cav. The Nutnfancy code is no longer working. Do y'all have an update for discount?
