This video is an excerpt from the Woodsmith Shop tv show, Episode 712: Craftsman Clock and Serving Tray, which originally aired on PBS in December 2013.
Whether you use this tray to decorate your table or serve your guests, it will surely bring style and grace to your home.
Building a tray is a great way to practice new techniques in the shop. The joinery is often just as unique as the design. This tray has splayed sides and arched ends that meet curved handles. The splayed sides are easy to make and require just a couple cuts on the table saw. And the contrasting handles are cut on the band saw from a square blank, so there’s no bending involved.

I made one of these for everyone in my family for Christmas one year and it was a great gift! I really enjoyed making them. A big thanks from me goes to the Woodsmith Shop. I do woodworking as a hobby and I was able to follow all the instructions clearly. I will continue my subscription to the magazine as well.

That’s great to hear! This serving tray would make a great gift, so it’s no coincidence that we put this video up right before Mother’s Day. 😉 Thanks for watching and subscribing!

I made a couple of these about 3 years ago. I had some nice Ash that I used for the tray. Not quite as dramatic as figured Maple, but it did display some nice rays. The recipients were very pleased with their guifts!

So professional race car drivers aren’t talented drivers because they drive expensive cars? If they raced on bicycles it would really prove how good of a driver they are.
