    Welcome back to Creative Harbor. In this video I am experimenting with Prismacolor Doubled-Ended Art Markers. I look forward to making a review video in the future on these bad boys. This was a first go with these markers but overall I must say they do a beautiful job and I had a great time using them. You will also get to see my pets Harbor and Phoenix make a small cameo and my sweet tie-dye pajama bottoms. Enjoy! Until next time, take care. Cheers!

    I am feeling the exact way that you described in this video today, and it's wonderful to know that it's something other artists feel. I just happened upon this while TH-cam-ing Prismacolor, but I really enjoyed watching. Thank you!

      +Bo Cardoza You're so welcome. Yes, you are so not alone in that feeling. Sometimes when I'm feeling down I watch people sketching videos by TH-camr Will Terrell. Check them out, hopefully it can get some mojo flowing for you. Cheers :)

    I can't even begin to tell you how much I relate to your situation (job/art balance) and reflections at this point in life. Started watching with the intent of watching another artist work with markers, ended up with feelings inside myself. I'm not alone

    Prismacolor markers and pencils are great. I purchased a few sets a few years back when my artistic talent started evolving. It's funny that I found this video because I did an octopus drawing with my colored pencil set. But I use the markers when I want a more "graphing novel" appearance.
    I'm just browsing to pick out some tips and techniques to further my artistic growth.
    Drew a lot when I was a kid. Stopped for a long time. And recently got back into it maybe 4, 5 years ago...
    I still have some of my old work and when I compare it I'm proud of the difference. My old stuff was okay, but it was sort of how I left off when my creative side was snuffed out when I was a kid. My new stuff is close to what you had going on with the octopus.
    Basically, my outlook and advice to anyone interested in art but thinking they don't have the talent, the true talent lies in patience to draw and draw and draw ( or whatever form of art you're dancing with) and to push forward. As time goes on, and with each work you do, you will improve.
    Most of us who are artistic like this didn't start out as good as we are now. It's a practice.

    Hi! I was looking up reviews on these markers and came across your video. I totally feel you on being someone with the talent but no education on how to use it. When I asked my ultra-conservative, Baptist preacher dad if I could go to art school when I was younger, I was told "Art school is for weirdos." .... So yeah. I totally understand that frustration. Now I've been lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to teach a painting class once a month and I"m so happy about that, but I still struggle to get ideas from my mind onto paper or canvas. I was glad to hear you say you were in the same boat, basically. And what you produced here is AMAZING. I can't wait to see more. :)

      +Dominick Turks Yes, in fact my preference was only color pencils and I totally snubbed markers - honestly, I HATED markers prior to these. Then I found a 'people sketching video' by another TH-camr by the name of Will Terrell and it made me SO inspired. Check out his work, you'll fall in love with everything he does and you'll also get a good look on how these markers preform. Good luck on your marker journey friend!

    • @CreativeHarbor
      @CreativeHarbor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +B l a c k P a n d a Those are not the actual names. I recorded the video and did a voice over so I wasn't 100% what colors I grabbed for at the time, I named them by the tone. I'm more then certain 'butter yellow' is cream PC914 and I remember wanting to add shadow without using black so I'm assuming 'warm brown' may possibly be Dark Brown PC946 or Sepia PC948 (those are more on the cool side) Hope that helps you.

    How did you deal get around the fact that the markers smear the ink? I am working on my third children's book, and the first two were done in watercolors and india ink pen. The third one, I wanted to do in prismacolor marker and india ink. I've found that the markers smear the ink? How did you get around that?

    • @CreativeHarbor
      @CreativeHarbor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, I'm not sure I did anything special. I'll let you know the brand of India ink I used incase that is what was special about it not heavily smearing. Speedball 2 oz India ink in super black. I did let it dry over night before I started layering the markers. Hope that helps, best of luck on your next book!

    • @CreativeHarbor
      @CreativeHarbor  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh! And the paper I'm using helps a ton, I'm using Strathmore Bristol smooth paper. Ink gets sucked up and helps it stay in place.

    • @jimilapointe5336
      @jimilapointe5336 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the problem is that I need to let the ink dry before I do the coloring. I'll give that a try

  • @fukthis6697
    @fukthis6697 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How to you keep the ink from bleeding? I'm used to drawing small things so I guess thats why but I can't use india ink with markers because it bleeds into the color and it's really annoying

    • @CreativeHarbor
      @CreativeHarbor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mei Pie It may be due to the type of paper you're using or you need to give more drying time for the India ink. I haven't had an issue using alcohol based markers on Bristol paper. I hope that helps you friend!

    • @fukthis6697
      @fukthis6697 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Creative Harbor Its probably because of the paper then, because I once waited 1 day for the ink to dry completely and it still bled. Thanks for replying though!

    • @CreativeHarbor
      @CreativeHarbor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on size and brand marker paper should cost around $10-15 for a 20-50 sheet booklet. Check out Amazon! If your art doesn't take up an entire page you could cut to size and get more use out of the paper!

    • @CreativeHarbor
      @CreativeHarbor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Aztec Girl it does bleed through but not terribly, on this piece I was generous with the markers and put a lot down on the paper. You can see on the back some of the heavier lines I put down. Hope that helps you out!

      +JoceyJellyfish I'll be honest, I never really messed around enough on any type of marker prior to buying these Prismacolor ones. They are expensive, but worth it. Try getting some primary colors - slowly collect them. If you're not ready for the investment don't fret, I've seen many artist make amazing artwork with regular office supplies like Bic pens or Crayola art supplies! Great to practice on before investing in a costly set if you're not ready to part with your hard earned money.

      Xanz don't allow negative people to rob you of your joy, art is a great therapy and healthy way to express yourself. When you start feeling down immerse yourself in your craft. Look for inspiration from fellow artist or whatever you usually go to find it. Hell, typing this out I'm realizing I need to take my own advice! It's okay to feel down, just try not to live in it forever there's so much more to life. Hope you get to creating asap cheers!

      Nadav Igra octopi is a plural form, google it. Best!

    • @NadavIgra
      @NadavIgra 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Creative Harbor I just did:
      Though some mention octopi after octopuses it is clearly a mistake and several sources make note of this.
      I correct my mistake that the other acceptable plural is octopodes and not octopods.
      "There are three plural forms of octopus: octopuses [ˈɒktəpʊsɪz], octopi [ˈɒktəpaɪ], and octopodes [ˌɒkˈtəʊpədiːz]. Currently, octopuses is the most common form in the UK as well as the US; octopodes is rare, and *octopi is often objected to as incorrect.[11]*
      The Oxford English Dictionary[12] lists octopuses, octopi and octopodes (in that order); it labels octopodes "rare", and notes that *octopi derives from the mistaken assumption that octōpūs is a second declension Latin noun, which it is not*. Rather, it is (Latinized) Ancient Greek, from oktṓpous (ὀκτώπους), gender masculine, whose plural is oktṓpodes (ὀκτώποδες). If the word were native to Latin, it would be octōpēs ('eight-foot') and the plural octōpedēs, analogous to centipedes and mīllipedēs, as the plural form of pēs ('foot') is pedēs. In modern Greek, it is called khtapódi (χταπόδι), gender neuter, with plural form khtapódia (χταπόδια).
      *Chambers 21st Century Dictionary[13] and the Compact Oxford Dictionary[14] list only octopuses, although the latter notes that octopodes is "still occasionally used"*; the British National Corpus has 29 instances of octopuses, 11 of octopi and 4 of octopodes. Merriam-Webster 11th Collegiate Dictionary lists octopuses and octopi, in that order; Webster's New World College Dictionary lists octopuses, octopi and octopodes (in that order).
      *Fowler's Modern English Usage states that "the only acceptable plural in English is octopuses," and that octopi is misconceived and octopodes pedantic.*[15]"

      I guess that since some sources list octopi it is an acceptable form of colloquial usage. hmpf

      Nadav Igra I'm not a fan of wiki pages but check out this little video from Merriam Webster online. We're both correct. The history is sorta neat to hear about. Cheers!
