the music in the background is making me tear up. everytime as a child (im 16 now) i would visit hong kong since my cousins are there and i would just click on a marvel movie and the intro sounds somewhat the same as the background. i heckin love cathay
Dear Cathay and the design team. Please carry on. This is great design!!! Ignore bad comments. They will still fly with you, as your service quality will still be on top. I feel the new and positive vibe from this new livery!!! APPRECIATE THIS BIG TIME. Super thoughtful design!
+Lin Pug the black version does not fly to hong kong actually it is only on the A320 and the 777-300 which flys to the americas :( hongkong only gets the black and white version.
Definitely prefer the older livery on the 777s. It just looks so handsome on the 777s, from nose to tail. Although after 5 years, I must say this livery has grown on me. They probably realised how bad the old livery looked on the A350s and decided a new one needed to be in the works.
Well, i like this new livery. Just looking on pictures from the old one and i must say that this new livery is definitely an improvement. It has still the old charm and is not too modern, it's like they say in the video- timeless.
looks like they got an old plane and just repainted the tail and forgot everything else. They should have left the fuselage white, then greenish-grey on the bottom just doesn't match the design.
With Delta, not so. Even though it has been almost 9 years since they've changed their livery, I still miss the DeltaFlot. Even though the new and current one is more refreshing.
A modern design which gives a mint impression, I like it. I like Cathay as always. Don't really understand why people always tend to criticise out of nothing.
I do like this modern and minimalist livery. It is certainly the right direction to take given the contemporary aesthetics. However, the current livery is so classy, it is undoubtedly going to be a classic design in the history of commercial aviation. BTW, this entire video feels like one of those Jony Ive Apple videos.
I love the Cathay pacific livery and Cathay.I would notify in my opinion that Cathay pacific is the best airline in the world supports Cathay on skytrax
People hated Apple for removing the rainbow colors from their logo. And about a week later they'd all forgotten about it. Well done Cathay, you didn't fall for it. This wing logo will live for a long time.
Im Indonesian....all the time i always remember that ....CX is the safest and one.of the best airlines in the world .....Cathay Pacific is always something special in the air ....!!
I can say that Cathay Pacific would like to embody the saying "simplicity is beauty". This design is simple yet elegant. Not your best design ever, but it will leave a mark now that everyone would their planes to be like the palette of the rainbow. Livery is not all about the lavish color but how you like your brand to be seen. What makes your brand stand out.
CX has always been iconic except retaining the icon bird with a some modification made. Just look much cleaner now. Hope the service level which are fundamental improves along with the livery too.
Did you keep the receipt for the design work? Hope it didn't cost too much! Or maybe the Cathay board were too scared to push the design. The American Airlines livery might look simple, but it's dynamic and eye catching and has reinvigorated the airline. This livery looks like an interim idea.
I actually like it, It may be a bit bland and all but I think it's pretty good to fill in the Brushwing with green and the white logo, And the red line is gone. I don't ever really mind about airline livery's anyway, But it's nice to see how CX Is making changes and Improving their Airline.
What's interesting is they made this video before the new livery was painted on any aircraft - and thus had to photoshop it onto an aircraft painted in the old colours. Not a bad job I must say
You have to learn to be great full for what you get. The point of this is to have a new and more modern livery. It has the exact same design on the old livery as well so yeah good luck arguing.
As usual, aviation geeks are living in the past when it comes to contemporary design standards. This is a minimalistic, wonderful livery, but most AV geeks are nostalgic about the busy 80s and 90s.
this is a disappointing livery for us CX fans and loyalists, and now with the talks of 10 abreast in economy on the 77W, the company is going to loose many loyal customers if it goes down this steep slope. CX was always my first choice to fly if I could, but that position won't last long if this is the new direction the company is going, don't compete with low level north american airlines, it's pathetic, compete with SQ and offer your customers a good experience
+Yoel Febrian CX have considered adding 10 abreast to their 77Ws, but with a twist. Because of the added revenue, they say that if they make the change that they will afford to have better meals on planes (which has declined already), add in-flight Wifi, a snack bar, and other things that round out a great flight. Since the amount of space lost is only about an inch or so for each person, Cathay thinks that these new add-ons will help compromise for that. Being a skinny person myself, I wouldn't really mind 10 abreast in coach.
+Mikael Can that's sad man! Even the global player like CX which recognized as 5 star airline considered downgrading its seat comfort. I hope they can replace it with better service and inflight meal and snacks
+Mikael Can, the meal quality might have dropped, but it's still miles better than what North American airlines offer, as for the other add-ons such as snack bar or wifi, I highly doubt that it will be completely free, but as said in the same article, CX is also considering dropping the prices to be more competitive. However, that in itself is missing the point, the reason ppl choose CX is for their inflight experience. I can say that on a 10+ hrs flight, I would do anything I can to not be on a 10 abrest 77W, it's so narrow, and I'm pretty thin, 5hrs on AC's 77W was even a pain. Also the current CX is 18.5 inch width, 10 abreast 77W is 17 inch seat width, just consider that 9 abreast 787s is 17.3 inch and that's really tight already
+TheAudiR8Fan I hope they'll only go for the 10 abreast on the 779s, where they'll at least be able to provide 18 inch seat width since the 779 has a larger cabin width. I'm literally 13 inches from hip to hip, so it wouldn't really matter for me :D. Lower prices would definitely be a good thing, since many people do consider pricing as #1 on their list when they book flights. #2 comes comfort or airline reputation, and better meals, snack bar, wifi, and other things would definitely help counter a 17inch seat. I definitely do see your point though, especially since not everyone is 13 inches wide.
CX! You've been conned by your design consultants! There's nothing contemporary or Asian about this new livery. It looks unfinished and grey. Please see Eva Air's new livery to find out how much nicer yours could have been.
Changing a major airline livery is a very rare occasion and a wonderful opportunity to create something special. It doesn't matter what corporate 'rationale' you spin on it, Cathay's new livery is boring and soulless, plain and simple. Such a lost opportunity. I was genuinely hoping for a lot more.
Design is a matter of taste and a lot of people felt this paint job looked better in person. One must wonder, however, why a thoroughly pondered, prudently calculated and expensive decision on a design change has failed to please most people. Sad to see HK's home carrier lose its edge bit by bit, on its own hands.
I like it. The old logo is really getting old, esp the pale green strip beneath the windows. Just didn't work with the old smaller brush wing. The bigger bolder version in the new livery works much better with the pale strip.
That's nice and all, but you should also look at the service of your staff on board in Business Class, also making the signage to your lounges in HKIA more obvious and your staff in the lounges more aware of where they are. I was quite disappointed in my recent trip to Europe with CX, the connection through HK coming from Europe to Australia was a big let down to be honest. I had CX highly recommended to me by friends, from what I experienced I'll go back to QF and EK and transit through Dubai.
What was the rationale behind this? You went from having a classic, colorful livery to a white bland nothing. If this represents your brand as a whole, than I have little confidence in you having a good product I want to use.
Looks Nice and Simple. Quite pleasant to see it. I am a real fan of CX and I take at least 4 returns a year with you guys but I have notice that the service of the flight attendance have been drop in premium economy. Need to be consistence with the service and change the meal menu more frequent. Keep the Congee for breakfast, I love it so much, I order it every time. Otherwise, I would say it is perfect. Excellent pilot and the flight is smooth, most importantly safe.
I can see what Cathay is trying to do here-- they're trying to come up with something that looks a bit more modern, timeless and simple (a sort of Apple-feel if you wish). It's like how apple switched designs from the iPhone 5 to the 6. Many won't like it at first, but they'll soon realize the change is for the better.
Please Please do not change your service. We have been flying with you for years. I would hate to have to shop around again.. I go for service and comfort first and then pricing. I want to be comfortable for 17hr flights.
last time we went to hong kong we were 15 then we rushed to cathay pacific we stayed in hong kong for 7 days so whrn we were going back to manila we rided, idk maybe philipine airlines
Nothing wrong with the previous livery, maybe just an update of the titles would have worked. The fuselage looks incomplete. The band should be the same shade of green as the tail and the engines should be white with the green brushwing logo. Please revise this, Cathay.
IMHO they should have painted the engine green to match the tail, and remove the wing brush in the front part. Though it looks contemporary, but it is way too minimalist the kinda greenish grey color part also does not match the overall livery. They should have done this better!
the music in the background is making me tear up. everytime as a child (im 16 now) i would visit hong kong since my cousins are there and i would just click on a marvel movie and the intro sounds somewhat the same as the background. i heckin love cathay
Me too😃
I do love this livery than the old one. It makes Cathay Pacific to be simple and elegant. In my opinion this livery is very beautiful on A350.
Absolutely, it shines on the a350
Don't know why people are mad it seems smooth and nice to me
Exactly!
plus too me its the people who are truly loyal will support CX's decisions
support CX
+Ng Ngai Chit i smell a new tread do you #supportCX??
I agree. It looks quite zen and harmonised to me.
I personally love the new livery! It's sleek and ultra modern. Looks a thousand times better than China Eastern and other similar liveries.
I actually like the new livery. Simple yet effective. Less is more.
I for one like the new livery. The old one is a little too busy. The simple elegance of the new paint scheme speaks of modernity and class!
Agreed, I think I looks quite elegant and much cleaner
+GE90man Glad. Great minds think alike!
Leong Phil
一一。
Eh, it's not the greatest, a bit too simple, but it's elegant. Dispatch B-KPM to ORD ASAP as so I can see it up close!
+joseg2143 I second that! Could be way better looking for real!
+joseg2143 Yeah I mean I always love the Cathay Logo but I think they could've added some more to it...
+CheeseMan
Yeah I kind of agree !
by just listening, I thought it's a new apple product
Such as iphonex10.
Its pasted.
Lol
Jayde Wong
.
Such a beautiful airframe, simple with clean lines, the triple 7 is a long haul aircraft done extremely well
Dear Cathay and the design team. Please carry on. This is great design!!! Ignore bad comments. They will still fly with you, as your service quality will still be on top. I feel the new and positive vibe from this new livery!!! APPRECIATE THIS BIG TIME. Super thoughtful design!
What is the name of background music??
there’s no name for the background music, it’s just a composition made for just this video and some other cathay stuff
The new livery looks smart and simple.
I quite like it to be honest.
They should bring the design team from Air New Zealand.
***** have you seen the brand new design of Air New Zealand? It's beautiful. Especially the limited black and white edition.
+Gabriel Leung Beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder. To me the Air New Zealand design is too gloomy/dark. Looks like a flying hearse.
+Lin Pug the black version does not fly to hong kong actually it is only on the A320 and the 777-300 which flys to the americas :(
hongkong only gets the black and white version.
***** Yeah have you seen the special All Blacks design on one of their Boeing 777? It's magnificent.
+Gabriel Leung Or Etihad
Definitely prefer the older livery on the 777s. It just looks so handsome on the 777s, from nose to tail. Although after 5 years, I must say this livery has grown on me. They probably realised how bad the old livery looked on the A350s and decided a new one needed to be in the works.
exactly
Definitely agree with you, looks better on the B777 but far worse on the A350...
+James Winkler The idea of this refresh was to free the brushing from the box, so everything else is the same.
After some times people will realize the new livery is much much better than the old one.
This looks beautiful for me.
Simpler yet more beautiful.
With Delta, not so. Even though it has been almost 9 years since they've changed their livery, I still miss the DeltaFlot. Even though the new and current one is more refreshing.
I agree, I guess it's our unpopular opinion about it. It looks more fresh and elegant.
I really love it - contemporary and elegance
this new logo is banging 😍😍😍😍
A modern design which gives a mint impression, I like it. I like Cathay as always.
Don't really understand why people always tend to criticise out of nothing.
It looks good to me. They take back the Classic Livery Styling. I also like the Background Music
Yeah what is that music?
I do like this modern and minimalist livery. It is certainly the right direction to take given the contemporary aesthetics. However, the current livery is so classy, it is undoubtedly going to be a classic design in the history of commercial aviation. BTW, this entire video feels like one of those Jony Ive Apple videos.
I love the Cathay pacific
livery and Cathay.I would notify in my opinion that Cathay pacific is the best airline in the world supports Cathay on skytrax
PLEASE DON'T CHANGE IT!!! The current livery cares a lot of my and other Hongkongers old beautiful memories!
Simple and smooth. I like it :) and the word "timeless" is shown through the livery which is and thumbs up :D
Looks absolutely amazing!
People hated Apple for removing the rainbow colors from their logo. And about a week later they'd all forgotten about it.
Well done Cathay, you didn't fall for it. This wing logo will live for a long time.
Wow very beautiful I love Cathay Pacific ❤️
Bring back the old green stripes
Yes, I miss the "green sandwich" in the good old days!!
+Gabriel Leung
I prefer the new one over the old green style .
+Gabriel Leung
Yeah , nah !
Maybe on a few aircraft as retro livery but it's time for something different .
Jo Tyers well I'm exaggerating when I say bring back the green stripes. But this new design is not an improvement over the current livery.
Agree!!
I like the new livery!! :)
In my opinion I liked the old one better. The last one looked like you guys were creative.
Im Indonesian....all the time i always remember that ....CX is the safest and one.of the best airlines in the world .....Cathay Pacific is always something special in the air ....!!
Very pretty. The Boeing 777 is one of the prettiest aircrafts I have ever seen.
Cathay Pacific and Air New Zealand are the best ever!!!!
You're all just haters! I really like this new livery!
CX has always been iconic except retaining the icon bird with a some modification made. Just look much cleaner now. Hope the service level which are fundamental improves along with the livery too.
For people who don't like it, less is more, always remember
Looks like a leased aircraft going to be demolished at an airplane cemetery.
Antonio Bonet 3a
Did you keep the receipt for the design work? Hope it didn't cost too much! Or maybe the Cathay board were too scared to push the design. The American Airlines livery might look simple, but it's dynamic and eye catching and has reinvigorated the airline. This livery looks like an interim idea.
I like the new tail - great. But there should be some red on the fuselage somewhere - it's part of your heritage.
I've seen it at Heathrow. It does look very elegant and understated, I reckon that is quote 'on brand' for Cathay.
Simple but beautiful!
I don't know how about you guys, but I really love the old livery, on 747s
I actually like it, It may be a bit bland and all but I think it's pretty good to fill in the Brushwing with green and the white logo, And the red line is gone. I don't ever really mind about airline livery's anyway, But it's nice to see how CX Is making changes and Improving their Airline.
I liked the older one........... with beautiful red and green stripes and the white logo............
Cathay Pacific is my favorite airline, but I miss the old livery. Bring the old livery back, it was way better
太美了,精萃後的CIS,看起來非常的成熟內斂,恭喜國泰又往前了一步!
+Hugo Liu I hope this is sarcasm.
It's gorgeous!
What's interesting is they made this video before the new livery was painted on any aircraft - and thus had to photoshop it onto an aircraft painted in the old colours. Not a bad job I must say
Am I the only one that like this livery?
That's a nice one. Hope to see it one day
The tail is alright, but the front part is really terrifying
What's the point of putting a logo that doesn't match the scale...
+tonyckw05 The brushwing logo on the nose looks completely lost ... in an ocean of blandness ... almost like a scene out of Finding Nemo.
You have to learn to be great full for what you get. The point of this is to have a new and more modern livery. It has the exact same design on the old livery as well so yeah good luck arguing.

It's just a safe and classic bet, hope it was a bolder approach.
The air to air cinematography in this is some of the best I've ever scene right down to the color grading. Anyone know who created this?
Great job Cathay Pacific
simple, elegant. well done!
Personally I like it. Clean and minimalistic!
CX! You've been conned by your design consultants! There's nothing contemporary or Asian about this new livery. It looks unfinished and grey. Please see Eva Air's new livery to find out how much nicer yours could have been.

It takes a lot more thought to go minimal. Clean, simple and yet elegant.
Prefer not change than this "new" one. The brush strike through the box is more meaningful than now without the box
So many plebs in this comment section who don't understand minimalism
Design is a matter of taste and a lot of people felt this paint job looked better in person. One must wonder, however, why a thoroughly pondered, prudently calculated and expensive decision on a design change has failed to please most people. Cut the cost of catering, tweaked Marco Polo club status rules, and now this dull livery. Congrats Cathay, you do look like a LCC.
I prefer Ryanair's livery over the new CX livery.
+NannyGoat513 I bet that's the only thing of Ryanair's that you (or most ppl) prefer over any other airline :-)
LOL:)
+Will Miyazaki havent flown cathay since the early 00's....are they really cost cutting?! sad if true!
The best cathay ads🗿
I like the new scheme it's sort of like the American Airline's one in terms of design.
Welcome to Cathay...
Where we give no “F”
Cathay Paciic
Stop it man I'm crying a lot 😂😂
Why the dislikes, it looks great
If it's not broken, don't fix it. Who else prefers the old livery over this new dull one?
so beautiful.. the combination of natural color make it really ASIA
Did this guy also do the New american livery??
I like it. The old logo is really getting old, esp the pale green strip beneath the windows. Just didn't work with the old smaller brush wing. The bigger bolder version in the new livery works much better with the pale strip.
I like the new livery so cool👍🏻👍🏻
what's the music ? i love it !!
Seems like CX's design office located in Wan Chai?
"Free the brush wing..." That's euphemism for we ran out of ideas
If it aint broken... why change it....?
+Tony Lam Because the logo changed.
Being Simple is always the best
0:52 must watch, print shop improvement
Adekwanimosik
That's nice and all, but you should also look at the service of your staff on board in Business Class, also making the signage to your lounges in HKIA more obvious and your staff in the lounges more aware of where they are.
I was quite disappointed in my recent trip to Europe with CX, the connection through HK coming from Europe to Australia was a big let down to be honest. I had CX highly recommended to me by friends, from what I experienced I'll go back to QF and EK and transit through Dubai.
Anyone know where I could find the background music?
I too have been looking for it
CX - keep up the good work :-)
What was the rationale behind this?
When people change the livery, they complain and when you don't some still complain!!!
I prefer the new livery
Please Please do not change your service. We have been flying with you for years. I would hate to have to shop around again.. I go for service and comfort first and then pricing. I want to be comfortable for 17hr flights.
last time we went to hong kong we were 15 then we rushed to cathay pacific we stayed in hong kong for 7 days so whrn we were going back to manila we rided, idk maybe philipine airlines
Simplicity without creavity is commonness.
Nothing wrong with the previous livery, maybe just an update of the titles would have worked. The fuselage looks incomplete. The band should be the same shade of green as the tail and the engines should be white with the green brushwing logo. Please revise this, Cathay.
very nice livery and airplaine
The new livery is amazing
I think the new livery is really good ok, maybe they should have added a bit more colour but it's really good
Time to apply retro livery to all Cathay planes...was expecting something better...
I would have liked to see some red pinstriping just like on the old design, but that's just me. Still, it looks nice.
IMHO they should have painted the engine green to match the tail, and remove the wing brush in the front part. Though it looks contemporary, but it is way too minimalist the kinda greenish grey color part also does not match the overall livery. They should have done this better!
