What I love about this mod is that the components are absolutely massive. You cannot just build a beam cannon into every ship, which is a nice way to balance it

you don't need the loop and cancel loop anymore, the mod has a beam splitter to redirect the beam if you turn it on and set everything right, no need for pistons or remove blocks anymore. btw. how old is the vid? looks like you stil got the first version of the mod

Yo, you can use a beam splitter in place of the piston and combiner for a solid state laser weapon. When the splitter is off, it directs laser in the direction it's facing, when it's on, it splits thhe power according to its settings. So if you set it up to split it backward 100% and forward 0% it'll work as a normal combiner most of the time, but when turned on, it'll redirect the beam the opposite direction.
Theres a beam splitter so you dont need a piston (dont use it to fire its worse damage than the long range emitter), and also a mod called Antimatter batteries that have very op batteries (as much as the particle acellerator)
You can make the beam go through passages. Whether that's by design, or if friendly grid damage is off, I don't know. And with friendly grid damage off, you can put the camera directly in the laser. You'll have to look away if you fire a charge, though
I use a splitter on a 4 way loop. No moving parts. No gaps between. Look at the 5 squares to know when it's fully charged. I use a camera facing a combiner for that very purpose. Turn on the splitter to fire. Turn it back off to recharge.

I wouldn't say that this Mod is OP. First, it needs a fair amount of power. Second, especially with the Ion Cannon, you basicaly have to build the Ship around this Weapon System and its Power System, wich means, that every Hull penetration will lead to a power loss or even a total failure of the Weapon. Thirth, in the Mod Description is written, that this Mod is intended to be u.ed with Shield Mods, wich nerfs especially the Laser System but also the Ion Cannon needs to be much larxger to be still a one hitter, and that means, that the Gun didn't just get larger but also the chargxing time will be increased to a felt eternity. And the Fourth Reason, it didn't really work without rotors or pistons, wich mean, that our great Lord an Saviour Clang, can made our days😉
You don't need such a complex system just for a turret... The mod comes with a block for the ion beams that redirect it in a different direction than the combiner is facing

wonder where the name "2cm Beam" is coming from tbh... is it ironic because the beam is half a meter in diameter and impossible to build a "small" setup with it? or because all blows up if one lense is aimed off more than 2 cm? >_
What if you made a straight line of reflector blocks, and put a bunch of generators shooting into every block. Would that work or does the mod not work like that?
My laser beam work fine. It fires as soon as more than 1 capacitor i full. The ion beam seem to be broken or just mine. My ion fired once then does not charge up anymore but a tiny shiver of light beam that kept damaging stuff in front of it. I was fitting a laser and tried to test it while ship was in dock. I made a 1 block hole for i to fire thru but it destroyed at least 3 blocks around the laser and destroyed the dock and the landing tower. I just fit the last block below my cockpit so where I fly toward it will fire there.
Did you know that if a ship has the ion system charging and it cloaks using one of those cloaking mods, the ship becomes invisible but the ion beams remain! May this could be something to take a look at in a video and see if there might be a use for this trick!
Just a little side question: Why are you releasing your videos on 11pm? I mean I'm from Germany so it's even 12pm here, but why so late and not like other TH-camrs in the Afternoon or Evening or something?
i love this mod but its op as hell so i decided to not use it as when fully charged with capacitors and all it just go through defense shield that has 90 GW of power like nothing and deletes anything it aimed at for those who look for weapons powerful enough for defence shield with 60-100GW setting i recommend GTF the nova torpedo take half of the shield hp but reload 30 seconds tested with 60 GW (2x 30gw deuterium reactor mod) and thors with citadel take about 2 % per salvo
Nero Drake but it takes a tremendous amount of uranium, we are talking about multiple dekagramms per second, and a long charge time, and a lot of materials needed to build it. Also since it isn’t MP compatible, you can only use it against MPCs. The biggest problem is that 2cm has stopped modding.

Started building a ship, to make it effective you need a shitload of material and energy to build it at least a bit effextive. 4 capacitors, each need 4 beam generators to charge at a moderate speed and about half a dozen of the large vanilla reactors just to power the generators...

Another method of firing is to use the emitter set to custom ratios, when the emitter is on it will fire and when off the laser beam will charge up.

This mod is still relevant and things have changed a lot. Maybe do a fresh take on this system given how easy it is to setup now

Put it upside down and attach pistons to the base and put it in the bottom of a ship and you'll have an orbital super cannon.
