I work in the industry of fire and flood restoration but we deal with the restoration of properties after an escape of water. But the plumber has usually been in and repaired the issue
Thanks for taking the time to pull this together mate. The shower tray fixing is always a contentious subject. I tend to adapt my approach depending on the floor type and how level it is. In the nrw build case I would probably always SBR it first and then silicon. Where the floor is uneven or not level of concrete floor, SBR and then tile adhesive to bed it in and level it. I did watch a video from Skill Builder which does explain why a soft bed of concrete is the recommended approach. But, like you, I tend to stick to what I kkow and works.
I was one of those people thinking that u have to do a proper base for a shower tray, but from watching u for so long now and totally agreeing with the raiser kit point I’m pink grip/silicone all the way 👍 Good work on the weight loss too mate 💪🏻
Hi Mark, fantastic film again, so good I watched it twice. Great job in the hairdressers pipework and soldering, my favourite, hope the stop tap shows itself. The barn is a great job too, thank you for the explanation and diagram of the secondary return, I did not understand anything about them, now I do, brilliant. I’m looking forward to Sunday for the sunken bath/shower etc. Have a good rest of the week, take care, regards, Chris 👍👍👍👍
It's a shame that you have to justify what you do with regards the shower tray. And any thing you do. If that's the way you do it and have always done it it obviously works. Some people 😂. Great vid as ever
@@MJTiffPlumbing what's the t piece with what looks like a washing machine waste hose going through the wall that you left from when the kitchens were there where your putting the hair washing stations and it was the best thing you did making your channel
@@theoddjobcentre6686 thanks mate… appreciate the kind words about the channel. That is from the lift pump at the other end of the building so had to start… luckily it’s getting boxes in
Mark, can you share/ advise what parts you used to connect the flexi hose to the waste. I see one of them is an inline trap, but what compression did you use to connect the hose?
I had noticed you'd got a few mates Mark. Thinking when I finish college I need to find some to get work done. 🤣 Least my name ain't Billy. Big old salon should look nice when it's all kitted out. The price of them sinks is mental though. Moisture boards is an interesting way to cut costs on a project of that size and quality. Not to current regs either. His gaff his choice but an odd decision from my perspective anyway. Looking forward to the sunken shower on Sunday 😊
Thanks mate, salon will be smart when it’s done. Yep his choice on the boards, to be fair I’ve never had an issue with moisture boards in a shower area… if it’s tiled and sealed right it’s fine….
The only gripe would be on the tray analogy is that silicone on a warped floor and it will crack. The use of mortar gives you a solid even bed. Nothing to do with the legs or strength of it. I do use silicone on new builds myself but always check the floor for level and that it hasn’t got any bows in it. I hope that helps 👍
Never had an issue with Silicone bedding a tray, as to be honest a floor should always be made level anyway to eliminate any issues👍🏼 Thanks for watching and dropping a constructive comment👍🏼👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing absolutely spot on mate. Like I said I use silicone on new builds myself. I have come across some pissed floors on older houses and to combat that is to cut them out and ply the shower area. The ply will bend a bit and get reasonably flat but not perfect. Using mortar can alleviate that as you can level it out to give a flat bed

The hair traps we bought online along with the furniture from a hairdressing company . Pain in the arse to fit as none of it fitted our waste pipe 👍👍
@@MJTiffPlumbing you would think if they have coils then can get straight length as I would guess the pipe is manufactured straight then put into coils lol
@@MJTiffPlumbing haha sound thanks. Looks to me like the 32mm viva Magna from toolstation but it’s the converting from 40mm without extra adaptor I couldn’t get head round. What a great content and definitely always learn something new from the video. About the silicone did you only use Dura + for everything? I mean silicone for shower tray, on the side of it and for the tray waste? I just bought your recommendation laser today and will consider about the £499 Erbauer from Screwfix since I had combi drill and impact drive at the moment. But I need SDS drill and Multi Tool for rads change job later. Hope you get another 100 or 200 subscriber this week. Keep it up 👍
It’s pumped so it circulates when a hot water draw is a long way from the cylinder, set on a timer for when the demand is first used that day or later in the day. Otherwise it can take minutes for the water to get hot and a waste of energy.
yeah its fine but as with everything its away for the manufacturers to get out of the warranty (even if that actually means anything on a shower tray anyway)
How come you got it easy getting salon taps with built in blending! I had to add a tmv to mine and pipe it up. 🙃 Looks like a good video as always. I'll watch it through at bedtime
Another interesting one mate. Totally understand your explanation of the secondary return. Can’t wait to see the finished bathroom job. What do you use to film on and what editing software do you use? Cheers. Phil
We will have to agree to disagree mark on that secondary return, you can only use copper, maincor mlcp, tectite mlcp on secondary returns as plastic doesn't comply with bs 7291 even polypipe and John guest say don't use it even if it's timed and used for short periods, but each to their own. On the plus side I had to laugh at the hair washing stations, a one of them would be useless to me and so would just for men 😆😆😆
I'm not even a plumber why do I watch every single video and enjoy them so much. Lol great work.
Glad you like them buddy…. A lot of people are not in the trade but enjoy what I’m making… 👍🏼👍🏼

Unfortunatly Polypipe have no straight lengths of 22mm in the country apparently, something to do with lack of materials…. Or so plumbase tell me 🙈

That secondary return? Why does the water circulate in the hot water circuit if threes no demand on the taps.?
It’s pumped so it circulates when a hot water draw is a long way from the cylinder, set on a timer for when the demand is first used that day or later in the day.
Otherwise it can take minutes for the water to get hot and a waste of energy.
Interesting salon under those arches hope you have found the stoptap
Yer it’s gonna look really good, and apparently the landlord knows where the stoptap is 😬
Adapt and overcome. Didn't think you could use push fit on a secondary return though.

Thanks Richard 👍🏼👍🏼
What type of piping is that and is there a pump and stat to keep hot water circulation.
It’s Polypipe…. Great for this type of install
Yer there will be a pump, non return valve and on a timer when the boiler room is installed👍🏼👍🏼

Shouldn’t secondary returns be in copper hmmmm? As it’s a much higher heat
He's already explained himself. It should only be in copper if it's on 24/7 on a continuous loop which it won't be so plastic os fine.
