Wow, that pipework no pride and it's something you'd expect from a diy'er not someone qualified/experienced with renewables. Which begs the question, are they even MCS accredited in the first place. Due to the low flow temps being in plastic isn't an issue for heat pumps but it still doesn't sit well with me.
Do you recommend the slim super foil on UFH when you cannot put the standard 100mm in due to restrictions in depth.. have you used it? Thanks and keep going ..

It's ok people saying that you get what you pay for..that's rubbish, even 'cowboys' are charging top money. I did all the checks when getting a bathroom fitter, recommendations off other people etc, even went to a shop and eventually used 'their guy' who does all their customers' work. What a let-down that was, 2 years later and I'm still having to get other people in to fix what he did wrong. Currently my wallpaper is down in my hallway because of his 'siliconing skills'. I've yet to meet a contractor that actually takes pride in his work. Ok, you might think that's a generalisation but that's my experience. Most of them pick and choose the job, any slight hassle and they don't want to know.
That is shocking mate, inside that cupboard. Out of sight out of mind.😢 I am getting near the end of my working life mate(67) and what I have noticed. I was taught to plumb in coper and iron, everything vertical or horizontal, everything with proper support and all of it laid out neatly. I can't believe some of the spaghetti I find in plastic installations. No set out, no proper supports and no pride in their work what so ever. Nice to see a proper tradesman in operation.

Thank you for taking the time and spending the money to make this video. I’ve been on the fence on if I should invest in a press gun. I think I’ll stick with solder for now. Great channel, I get so many tips from you!
This level of profit above quality attitude is widespread on sites nowadays. The problem is, to my mind an increasingly out of touch attitude amongst management. I was on a big job which had about twelve chippies (my trade) when I joined and there were two of us who had "old school" attitude to taking pride in our work. The management were forever huffing and puffing about how long we took, but they also kept assigning one or both of us to jobs snagging work that had been rushed by so-called "shit hot workers". Some of this stuff was abysmal. But they never stopped trying to Chivvy us along despite the fact that as the job wound down and the chippy contingent were gradually shrunk, we were the last two to go. But they never let go of the notion that we could somehow work faster and still deliver the same quality. And these managers were grown men in their 40s/50s.
Uk trades are now 6/12 month training centre , show a couple of pictures for portfolio , pass multi choice exam , you are now qualified. There are skills that can only be shown by experienced, that why apprenticeship importance .
In Ireland it's 4 years. Back when I did my apprenticeship 2003 there was such a demand on colleges and tech schools the apprenticeship was delayed by a year in the end. So my apprenticeship lasted over 5 years. Really enjoyed learning plumbing and the little tricks of the trade. Recommend the trade to up and coming perspective tradesmen.
I once had a plumber in to fit a new expansion vessel in my council owned property and he used a 22mm flexi hose to screw it to the wall. I was working abroad at the time but when my wife sent me pics, I went straight on the phone to complain about it. Some say why bother as its not your property, but it doesn't matter, when a job gets done it needing doing properly. Some tradespeople that I've come across seem to think that because your in a council property then you don't know any better. It doesn't take me long to let them know that I'm no fool

Hello Mark. Yes that pipework is really poor and definitely breaks more than a few rules. What a lot of people do not realise when they get these systems fitted is a lot of the time they are not tradesmen and have only had a short installation course. So they can do the grant work. Also a lot of them are on very tight installation times. None of these are excuses!! One other thing that shocked me was I worked as a teacher in a Tech College for a few years and realised that some of the students had never used copper. They spent their whole apprenticeship fitting plastic pipes. For example only using Copper when it popped through the floor to connect a rad. Then only so the carpet fitter never slashed it 😂 Maybe in the future there will be better control of Plumber registration etc so that the general public can check a Plumber's credentials. There are probably several influencing factors here. Not just cowboy work. I think the main issue is that these people when they have finished all the grant work will be unleashed on the main population in new overalls purporting to be Plumber's.
That unvented in plastic is a total mess. I think exactly as you do, if it’s visible it needs to be in copper. I’ve used miles of plastic in my time and it’s impossible to create a neat job purely down to the bulk of the fittings. The person who did this really has no pride in their work. Keep up the good work Mark and stay safe and healthy.
The sad truth is even those who advertise themselves as experienced plumbers do gobshite like this. As a customer and not a plumber people like this are everywhere and it’s not about going to the cheapest anymore. I live near Cannock and after going through 3-4 plumbers for my house build I’ve just realised not every area has a good plumber. I don’t mind paying top dollar, I just want work done to a good and neat and clean standard, can’t even get that!
Shocking Mark but i have seen this in our area where systems have been fitted poorly then customers complain that things are not working properly and cannot get the firm back to fix it slap it in and run away
Oh that poor Ecodan OMG that is pathetic, its actually embarrassing the plastic pipework on that i have no words ..I fitted about 20 of those ecodan thermal stores on a site all done in copper i even went to the mitsu factory in Livingston to see how it was done.. I think they deserve to see this mate .
Big companies absolutely ripping people off and getting away with it as usual with that lovely install. That’s y I always recommend small trades people to customers u get the same person back over and over again.
That is f**king ridiculous, all that lovely 22mm copper you ran through the loft, where it won’t be seen and the renewable’s apprentice pipes up like that?? Where is the lagging? 1m at least from the cylinder 😮😮😮 it might have even improved it 🤣🤣🤣🤣well done for not losing the plot with that! Good luck!
This is so crazy that hot water tanks are in an attic in the UK haha. This would never fly where I am located, but it's still otherwise cool to see plumbing from around the world.
The cylinder cupboard is pretty bad , no keepers , Pl;astic within 600mm etc etc . I am retiired and liked using Copper when I could . I went to one Worcester Combi a few years ago and the Flow and Return were piped from the Boiler in 15 mm , for a house with 6 Radiators , I told the customer , she was not happy with the installer .
That is unbelievable. They will have charged a fortune for that, and when there is a problem, the customer is going to phone you to sort it and if you don't come or fix it then you are the terrible plumber and get bad name. Great video, mate. P.s. The 1st cylinder is not the best piped either, but at least the D2 is 300mm then it's perfect 😂😂
Hi Mark. Sorry your having some problems mate. It happens to everyone at some point. Don’t have to apologise for not filming. We appreciate what you do film and share. Hope it all get sort out and you can get back to your normal self. 👍
Great video,as always, the property with the manifold the upstairs should have been on a separate manifold, just doing the rads, and underfloor heating on a separate manifold , keep up the good work 👍🏽
Some people don't have a conscience that plastic pipework is awful,I have to rectify a lot of work in pubs after the refurbers have been in,they are usually just builders thinking they know what they are doing 🤔
Johnny "plumtastic" strikes again! And he got on his horse and rode off into the sunset! No way dose anyone use speedfit or the like on any thermal store or unvented cylinder. Fantastic video as usual.
That’s a I’m in a big hurry to get to the next job, and don’t care about the next plumber coming in the to any thing in the future, I wouldn’t let them lads anywhere near a doll’s house, Some companies just don’t have any pride in the work, That would be a lovely finish in copper The Bathroom looks well Mark, The thermal imaging cameras are brilliant, I you mine all the time on heating system repairs and power flushing it’s a must have tool in my view 👍👍🤜😊
Back in my day if i put plastic pipes near a boiler or a hot press my boss would have sacked me. Plastic on LPHW or CWS/HWS that was on show was a big No. Only underfloors or in walls. Copper all the way if it is on show. My boss was right. Bit of pride in the work. I was thought to draw it all on a wall with a pencil using a level, install my brackets, then pipework. Is it "plumb level square" and solders cleaned properly. Thats what he insisted on.
Mate, the stress and pressure gets to all us big time TH-camrs 😉😉 Take a breath and relax. We will still be here when you do your next video mate so have a little break to rejuvenate 😁 That pipe work btw!!! My dead nan would of done a nicer job 😂
Looks like amateurs had connected all that up and It gives professionals like yourself a bad name and it's extremely frustrating as you have to put the mess right
This will be one of them where the customer isn’t happy with the heat pump and wants it taken out, leaving another customer with a bad experience and blaming the heat pump 😩 they need to be getting them back asap to sort their mess out
I’ll be honest the whole renewables system is over my head… I basically fit kitchens and bathrooms… and do up houses. Anything boiler related I hand to my gas man. Not worth breaking laws and risking safety BUT… all the speed fit is making my eyes bleed and I’m sure if your like me your pipe OCD is going mental looking at it lol! Take care buddy! Marc
We are always going to find work of a lower standard than ours, it is my policy to request an email from the customer accepting that any existing work is not our responsibility unless rectified. They always agree to this. Your insurance is not just for the day you are working it can be claimed against years beyond that.
stirling board? lower temps they are prolly allowed to do it, its plastic. lets ask if kingfisher group will be allowed to sell heatpumps in the future. backhander somewhere. of course they will. :)
Given that you're the last plumber on site, how do you make sure that your name & reputation don't get linked to that complete dog's dinner by anyone following you?
Nothing wrong with plastic when it's done correctly. Especially in hard water areas you'll get pinholing in copper so personally I find plastic a superior product since its unreactive. But bodging an entire system in with speedfits and leaving it like that is truly shocking.
You've just got to compare that cylinder install with the one you did the other week. It's obvious that you care, too much sometimes, and you take pride in the job, be it large or small, even if it'turns into a complete ballache, because it's your name on the van and you care about your customers, whereas there you've got some supposed "specialist" being paid big money to do a full install in a nice fresh site, and they've just thrown some salaried bod at it for a few hours and then climbed onto their horse and ridden off into the sunset.
Well you can't really call it plumbing. Stupid question though if you write a spec to try to avoid that kind of result, how do you avoid getting blacklisted as a punter?
That is bad , sum-of you say get them back, I wouldn’t have them back if they paid me they are cowboys, must be them so called plumbers that go on them quick causes , and call them selves qualified tradesman.
@@MJTiffPlumbing seen some like this, was doing 8 dormer bungalows in a new build site a couple years ago, it was literally all just chucked in, was 28mm off the unit for around 500mm then shit loads of tee's reducing down to 10mm plastic for both heating & h&c absolutely mind boggling 😂
I'm no plumber just DIY too a point of not touching gas or electric then calling the right people but that piping i could do a tidier job wtf is that all about, some people just have no attitude of walking away thinking they have done a good job, total cowboy id report the installer, no matter what trade you don't need people like that in any job
Looks about as good as the plumbing I did under my bath 😂 but I didn't charge someone money for it and I'm the only one who has to look at that mess. It's definitely a real shame to see everything done with such care and to such a high standard and then they come along and do... That... Personally if I was the customer I'd be on the phone about that, if the heat pump was done on subsidy I'm sure there's some scheme they are a part of which definitely needs informing of the standard of work these guys are doing. Absolutely shocking.
Sometimes dont blame the younger plumbers but blame whoever invented speed fit shit.Poly pipe with inserts and compression fittings to be fair is great because poly piping is alot more flexible and if fitted properly will never leak. Its all about speed now isnt it .The old ways are tried and tested but pushfit I wouldnt use myself.OK I am an ancient man but ancient ways have yet to let me down.Long live blokes that do things the old way.
Looks like that heating system has been fitted by an electrician. All of the shops that we done refits on looked like the plumbers used a bow and arrow to fit the pipe work, much like certain electrician's do when they work above a shop ceiling. Yeehaa the spurs are out
Unfortunately this is the way it’s heading with renewable installs and grants involved, get it in as cheap as possible for maximum profit 🤔 glad you flagged it up mate on your platform.
I work in social housing and this is very true. Where there is government funding there is normally tight deadlines to meet to get that funding spent. Large scale projects over hundreds of properties, no quality control, lots of sub-contracting, clash it in and onto the next one. Low and behold when there's problems in the future, these companies never seem to be about and we're left picking up the pieces. Whole thing stinks but happens time and time again.
@M J Tiff Plumbing i know you said it in the video, and yh, any good heating engineer would definitely use copper on show, that looked like some amateurs done it..on the plus it won't take long to rip it all out
I've seen alot worse 😂 Plastic connected to a hot water or heating pipework connected to a boiler or cylinder should be 1 meter. Don't apply to idiots who just give a running 🙄👌 Not your problem just advise the customer of the potentials👌
Hi Marky Mark could not have been a worse site I like you are old school and only use push fit when I want straight lengths under boards when there is no access. The Lone Ranger and Stevie wonder must have been involved . Probably on price work. I have seen better installs in 3rd world countries. Keep the Faith old chum. 👍🇬🇧 Paul (Paramount plumbing).

There really is some VERY bad work out there
Low temp welding roofs to seal over holes in a tank
👍🏼👍🏼
That is unbelievable. They will have charged a fortune for that, and when there is a problem, the customer is going to phone you to sort it and if you don't come or fix it then you are the terrible plumber and get bad name. Great video, mate. P.s. The 1st cylinder is not the best piped either, but at least the D2 is 300mm then it's perfect 😂😂
Unreal isn’t it mate
Hi Mark. Sorry your having some problems mate. It happens to everyone at some point. Don’t have to apologise for not filming. We appreciate what you do film and share. Hope it all get sort out and you can get back to your normal self. 👍
Thankyou buddy, appreciate that👌🏼👍🏼
Great video,as always, the property with the manifold the upstairs should have been on a separate manifold, just doing the rads, and underfloor heating on a separate manifold , keep up the good work 👍🏽
Just the manifold for downstairs and the rads upstairs are off a normal flow and return loop…..
@@MJTiffPlumbing yeah that makes more sense,I'm surprised the heatmiser stats playing up,I generally use heatmiser never had a problem with them
Some people don't have a conscience that plastic pipework is awful,I have to rectify a lot of work in pubs after the refurbers have been in,they are usually just builders thinking they know what they are doing 🤔
I said to the builder today I want to rip it out and redo it properly
Johnny "plumtastic" strikes again! And he got on his horse and rode off into the sunset!
No way dose anyone use speedfit or the like on any thermal store or unvented cylinder.
Fantastic video as usual.
Thanks buddy….. yep not great at all is it
What thermal imagining camera is that?
It’s the Hikmirco Pocket 2
@@MJTiffPlumbing cheers. Rate it?
Yer it’s spot on mate, used it for years
That’s a I’m in a big hurry to get to the next job, and don’t care about the next plumber coming in the to any thing in the future,
I wouldn’t let them lads anywhere near a doll’s house,
Some companies just don’t have any pride in the work,
That would be a lovely finish in copper
The Bathroom looks well Mark,
The thermal imaging cameras are brilliant,
I you mine all the time on heating system repairs and power flushing it’s a must have tool in my view
👍👍🤜😊
I even said to the builder today that I want to rip it out and repipe it… then when the guy comes back he would know it was utter rubbish
Do you not Do boiler installs/gas work?
No buddy…..
Wow, what a mess! Like to know how much they charged for that
🫣
Back in my day if i put plastic pipes near a boiler or a hot press my boss would have sacked me. Plastic on LPHW or CWS/HWS that was on show was a big No. Only underfloors or in walls.
Copper all the way if it is on show. My boss was right. Bit of pride in the work.
I was thought to draw it all on a wall with a pencil using a level, install my brackets, then pipework.
Is it "plumb level square" and solders cleaned properly.
Thats what he insisted on.
Mate, the stress and pressure gets to all us big time TH-camrs 😉😉
Take a breath and relax. We will still be here when you do your next video mate so have a little break to rejuvenate 😁
That pipe work btw!!! My dead nan would of done a nicer job 😂
Cheers fella…. Appreciate that……👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
Looks like amateurs had connected all that up and It gives professionals like yourself a bad name and it's extremely frustrating as you have to put the mess right
Yep unfortunately it does
This will be one of them where the customer isn’t happy with the heat pump and wants it taken out, leaving another customer with a bad experience and blaming the heat pump 😩 they need to be getting them back asap to sort their mess out
Completely agree mate
Do you do gas as well Mark or just water?
No don’t do gas, I used to but not anymore….
Regarding the underfloor heating job-I wouldn't call that an old system-It's shocking to me that a system of that age is having to be upgraded.
Did you see the state of it??
@@MJTiffPlumbing Any idea on it's age?
I’ll be honest the whole renewables system is over my head… I basically fit kitchens and bathrooms… and do up houses. Anything boiler related I hand to my gas man. Not worth breaking laws and risking safety BUT… all the speed fit is making my eyes bleed and I’m sure if your like me your pipe OCD is going mental looking at it lol! Take care buddy! Marc
It’s going off the scale mate…. So so bad
We are always going to find work of a lower standard than ours, it is my policy to request an email from the customer accepting that any existing work is not our responsibility unless rectified. They always agree to this. Your insurance is not just for the day you are working it can be claimed against years beyond that.
Yep I only cover work I have done….. 👍🏼
Great video has allways mate
Thankyou mate
@@MJTiffPlumbing you been mad busy pall hope it chills out soon for you mate
SPEED FIT..... John Wayne 🤠 had to be at a rodeo 🐎in the afternoon on the day he fitted that system in, so needed to be in and out quickly. 😱 💩
Shocking isn’t it
stirling board? lower temps they are prolly allowed to do it, its plastic. lets ask if kingfisher group will be allowed to sell heatpumps in the future. backhander somewhere. of course they will. :)
🤷🏼♂️…. Lost me buddy???
what a mess of that unvented in roofspace
It’s in the utility cupboard🫣
Ffs Mark that is well ruff can they get them back to sort it out flipping dangerous 😳
So bad isn’t it……
Given that you're the last plumber on site, how do you make sure that your name & reputation don't get linked to that complete dog's dinner by anyone following you?
I’ve made it very clear to the homeowner it’s nothing to do with me…… 👍🏼
Rip it out and you have a lifetime supply of JG fittings 😂
🤣🤣
Nothing wrong with plastic when it's done correctly. Especially in hard water areas you'll get pinholing in copper so personally I find plastic a superior product since its unreactive. But bodging an entire system in with speedfits and leaving it like that is truly shocking.
Yep everything has its place like you say, but leaving it like this is soo bad
You've just got to compare that cylinder install with the one you did the other week. It's obvious that you care, too much sometimes, and you take pride in the job, be it large or small, even if it'turns into a complete ballache, because it's your name on the van and you care about your customers, whereas there you've got some supposed "specialist" being paid big money to do a full install in a nice fresh site, and they've just thrown some salaried bod at it for a few hours and then climbed onto their horse and ridden off into the sunset.
Yep completely agree mate… thankyou
Well you can't really call it plumbing. Stupid question though if you write a spec to try to avoid that kind of result, how do you avoid getting blacklisted as a punter?
It sure to be honest
That is bad , sum-of you say get them back, I wouldn’t have them back if they paid me they are cowboys, must be them so called plumbers that go on them quick causes , and call them selves qualified tradesman.
Worst bit is the guy has been in the trade for years and years!!!!!!….😬
The whole building trade is crap I don’t know why people want to do it anymore , 🤷🏽♂️
Some of it is buddy… but there is also some genuine great company’s/people in it
Name and shame them cowboys, absolutely shocking
At least they cleaned the old 15mm copper before throwing the speedy onto it.
🤣🤣…… every cloud eh
@@MJTiffPlumbing exactly bud
Hey! I was well proud of my work in that cupboard, look at the positives.. don't need to paint the pipes white... 😂😂😂
Hahahaha…. How bad is that Luke!!!!!… unreal isn’t it mate
That cupboard looks horrific, if you can look past it all being in plastic (plastic has its place) its not even a tidy install
That’s the whole point mate, it looks horrific!!!!
I'm no plumber just DIY too a point of not touching gas or electric then calling the right people but that piping i could do a tidier job wtf is that all about, some people just have no attitude of walking away thinking they have done a good job, total cowboy id report the installer, no matter what trade you don't need people like that in any job
Worst thing with that install is that the taxpayer has subsided the sub standard work.
Indeed
That’s bloody shocking. Typical “can’t see it from my house” attitude. 😢
No doubt the customer payed good money for that too!!!
I think they did sadly
Looks about as good as the plumbing I did under my bath 😂 but I didn't charge someone money for it and I'm the only one who has to look at that mess.
It's definitely a real shame to see everything done with such care and to such a high standard and then they come along and do... That...
Personally if I was the customer I'd be on the phone about that, if the heat pump was done on subsidy I'm sure there's some scheme they are a part of which definitely needs informing of the standard of work these guys are doing. Absolutely shocking.
I agree buddy
How on earth did they get paid, and if so, shame on the main contractor'. why would anybody think that's an acceptable standard of work.
So bad isn’t it
most people dont want to pay for time. plastic fantastic. if it works, does the job, whats the problem?
Self respect for the guy fitting it to be honest
well done to the person that put a piece of cardboard over that door too many joiners just lean doors anywhere
😉👌🏼👌🏼
It's very clear that some people just don't care and are only interested in being paid!
Exactly mate
Haha class there mark are these the same guys that dont cut a flue to length and leave foam instead of bricks 🤣🤣🤣
They walk amongst us mate
Sometimes dont blame the younger plumbers but blame whoever invented speed fit shit.Poly pipe with inserts and compression fittings to be fair is great because poly piping is alot more flexible and if fitted properly will never leak. Its all about speed now isnt it .The old ways are tried and tested but pushfit I wouldnt use myself.OK I am an ancient man but ancient ways have yet to let me down.Long live blokes that do things the old way.
There is a time and a place I think…. But this certainly wasn’t one of them!!!
Mate you are clearly struggling
Sending good vibes
Thankyou buddy
More good vibes here pal. Message me if you ever need to chat, your videos have helped me a lot it's the least I can do in return 👍
Good camera that ;)
Hahahahaaha🤣😉😉
Looks like that heating system has been fitted by an electrician. All of the shops that we done refits on looked like the plumbers used a bow and arrow to fit the pipe work, much like certain electrician's do when they work above a shop ceiling. Yeehaa the spurs are out
Unfortunately this is the way it’s heading with renewable installs and grants involved, get it in as cheap as possible for maximum profit 🤔 glad you flagged it up mate on your platform.
So it seems buddy….. people just have no pride
That’s awful 😢, proper d.I.y job. Is up there with the worst I’d say . People get away with it it’s mental
That install is not compliant at all. Pointless listing all the faults 😂😂 be here all day 😂😂
Yep….. it’s so bad and to be honest sad that people are doing work like this
Wow, what an absolute mess.
Yep…. Unreal isn’t it
@M J Tiff Plumbing i know you said it in the video, and yh, any good heating engineer would definitely use copper on show, that looked like some amateurs done it..on the plus it won't take long to rip it all out
Personally, I just hate push fit no matter where it's installed it's 💩
I've seen alot worse 😂
Plastic connected to a hot water or heating pipework connected to a boiler or cylinder should be 1 meter.
Don't apply to idiots who just give a running 🙄👌
Not your problem just advise the customer of the potentials👌
Yep I will be buddy…. So so bad
😮
Yep exactly
Quite an old video I know, but, maybe the customers wanted the pipes to be white and didn't want to paint them? 😂
Seriously though, that's terrible
Shocking isn’t it
That Plumbing was put in by an Apprentice Electrician !
Hahahaa even they would do better
Hi Marky Mark could not have been a worse site I like you are old school and only use push fit when I want straight lengths under boards when there is no access. The Lone Ranger and Stevie wonder must have been involved . Probably on price work. I have seen better installs in 3rd world countries. Keep the Faith old chum. 👍🇬🇧 Paul (Paramount plumbing).
That’s compliant, you guys just jealous 😂 someone done it within less than an hour , that’s top plumber
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's horrific
Yep
Nice content bud👍🏻 what a shower of s***! The guy who installed that should be easy to spot he’ll be the one with spurs on his work boots!
🤣🤣….. yep 🤣
Pure butchery 😂😂. Find out who did the work and name and shame them 🤣😂🤣
Just walk away mate and don’t touch it, not your fault then when it goes wrong.
Yep I’ve distance myself away from that part of the job
