When you roll a number to crack the safe you crack ALL of those numbers not just a single one :) So in your example when you rolled the 4 you would have cracked ALL the 4's in the "Combination" for the safe.

I love the fact the box is a perfect fit (so long as they don't produce any expansions). Too many games go HUGE box and have a crap insert and everything jostles everywhere, or no insert and everything jostles everywhere to make up the fact the HUGE box was purely to fit the punch cards and the box equivalent of phallic comparisons on shelf.

We have a ton of fun playing this. You can hide from the guard three times before you're caught, which means once someone is down to just one more stealth token you really have to protect that person. There are many times when it does seem impossible, but there's so many ways to manipulate the guard and the game that those moments are really the most fun. Coming up with the plan that takes it from 50% chance we'll lose on this turn to 10% chance we'll lose on this turn is a great feeling.

We really enjoy this game. We did also find that with more people it gets much harder. While we don't mind challenging games, we actually made a house rule to change the guard movement to start at 1, 2, 3 on each floor instead of 2, 3, 4. We haven't found this to get rid of those tense moments in the game and really makes the tense end game moments that much more enjoyable. I'd recommend trying it out if you've at all gotten frustrated with that aspect of the game. Also, not playing with the Loot Cards can help remove unnecessary frustration as well (we go back and forth on this one).

So long as you roll a '4' for example on the safe cracking, all the tiles with the number '4' are 'unlock tokened' rather than just one of the tiles with a '4' on it...

I just recently found and played this game. I absolutely love it! So much so, I bought the sequel right after I played the first game

@@SoloBoardGamingKnight I can't believe it's been 5 years, but it's still my favorite board game, and yes, so excited for the sequel, haven't gotten a chance to break it out yet

Any opinions on which version is better? I know the standard answer is, "Well, they're very similar and both are loads of fun." Well then I guess the question becomes, "If you could only keep one, which one would you keep?"

I've consistently enjoyed this one. It's difficult, and has some luck factor, but it's really not all luck like some claim. There's plenty of room for strategy, and the theme comes through quite strongly. My biggest gripe is probably the number of things to keep track of, like tiles that can be seen from above and below.

I love the theme of this game, and how tense it gets. I also think Paperback is great -- now I just have to find someone else around here who likes word games...

As for my thoughts on the game, I love it! I think the randomness makes it interesting. This is one of my favorite Kickstarter games I've backed, and I've backed over $2000 worth of board games).

+VictorTheComputerGuy Yeap one of the great ones: Burgle Bros, Epic, 10 Minutes to Kill, Sovereignty of Dust strongly surpassed Evolution, Carson City Big Box, Posthuman, Exploding Kittens for me. www.kickstarter.com/profile/ionas

Wonder what good cause does Tom pretends to have when killing vikings in Blood Rage or blowing up planets with Death Star in Rebellion :) Overpopulation probably :)

Does the heist movie theme really come through? What kind of team is going into the building without even knowing where the stairs are, let alone the rest of the building layout and security protocols that they need to overcome?

I had 3 problems with the game. 1. just like Tom said, the game is random to a fault. You can set it up and loose in 10 minutes. Or set it up and lose in 30 minutes only to find out that it was basically going to be impossible to win the whole time. OR you can be hiding in a good spot and the guard just happens to cross your path enough times to lose the game before you can even move again.
    2. Its very rinse repeat. As it is, you do the thing, then you do the same thing, then you do the same thing again all with increasing difficulty. If the game was bigger and on one floor, and it was all one cohesive caper I think it would feel a little better.
    3. Again what Tom said. The game is hard and gets way WAY harder with more people. This is because the guards move after EVERY player. you have a few actions, the guards seem like Hussein Bolt on a segway. A good co-op needs to be balanced at every level. You can't just slap 1-6 players on the box and hope for the best.
Final thoughts, Its a good proof of concept that could have used some more time baking in the playtest oven. It could have been a GREAT caper game instead of a ho-hum co-op.

+bkLEGION3000 Playing on one larger board is in the rules and works pretty well

+larflabergasted We'll have to give that a try. I've only played it with the standard setup.

      1. Randomness is tiny - the point is how to cope with it, sometimes press your luck (when you need/want to) and sometimes not!
2.. It is the same over and over again but it is different each time. It is not a scenario game but a game where immersion arrises from its gameplay.
      3. There are rules for this that change how fast new guys appear. By the way you are wrong that it is *much* harder with more people. It just plays DIFFERENT and better with more peeps. You can also scale the difficulty by the guard dice initial value and the amount of levels (1,2,3). With more people you can discover more (gain more ground) and then spread across multiple levels to push up the die where you have been (basically distracting the guard on another level to not get attention off guards on your level, essentially hiding)
There is only one single issue and its sad that neither you nor Tom managed to point it out: Alpha gamery. Aside that this game is beyond awesome.
P.S. untested but instead of the 3x 5*5 (75) you can also try 4x 3*6 (72) (longish tower with many levels) and 2x 6*6 (72)

Either Tom is the worst Tetris player ever or there's a gravitational force pushing out of the box. The box is NOT too small. It all just fits. Stand the box on it's end, put all the cards in first, stick the walls (in a bag) on top of your card stack, and put some other pieces beside the walls. Now the cards won't shift around. Before sliding the lid on, put the leftover pieces on top of the cards.

I was not crazy about this one. We played it 3 times. The first 2 games, we lost in 5 minutes. Thought we were doing something wrong. 3rd game we almost won. The game mainly entails setting off the alarms to get the guard to move. I wish there were more mechanics to move guard. It got extremely repetitive.

I don't feel so bad about not backing it now. I hate random co-ops masquerading as "difficult".

    • @ionas82
      @ionas82 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

+TheGreatHamEl It is not too random actually. It is more a cope with what can happen stuff. It is a sucker for theme. It passes standard Pandemic-crap like by over 9000. There is only one issue it has can be fixed by house rules/variants, and that is that it neither has hanabi-style information nor hidden traitors nor hidden teams etc, and thus is totally prone to alpha-gamery. That was to be expected off of a coop game that @Rahdo and Jen like. Its a bit sad that @The Dice Tower did not point this one issue out that for some people is no problem for others its a game destroyer. … but as I said, fixable by house rules in this game. I still home Tim Fowlers will release an official semi-coop or hidden teams version of it :).
