I actually just finished reading Goldfinger and admittedly found it to be middle of the road for me. When it came to Goldfinger himself, I couldn't help but imagine Peter Lorre all throughout.
Another brilliant book club David. I first read the Fleming novels in the early 70s and have reread them many times since, but not for quite a while. So, your book clubs have been a welcome catalyst to revisit them one by one. Keep up the great work!
This is one of my favourite Bond books. It's not without issues of course. I think the golf parts go on a bit too long but I loved the Goldfinger character and thought there was some nice suspenseful moments. Ironically Dr No was the book that took me several starts before I could get into that. Although I absolutely love that book too now.
Today I got four Fleming novels from Folio Society (Dr. No, From Russia with Love, On Her Majestys Secret Service, You only live twice). Goldfinger I got last Week. Greetings from Germany
Keep it up David can't wait to go further up until You only live twice as I'm sure it would be lots of different opinions about it As for Goldfinger definitely not fan of it not only as totally overshadowed by movie, and quite a few wholes in the story btw golf challenge was so prolonged in book as well and such slowdown, just as whole it's bit tiresome to read however if you take out single themes it is indeed a goldmine
Are you sure you guys arent confusing a character's opinions and point of views and not the authors? Not everything the author writes has to be necessarily his thoughts or opinions. Just as I'm sure Fleming wasn't advocating for Goldfingers murderous scheme. Though I did find the final chapter a bit cringe on how he wrote Bond and Galore being together lol But it is just a fiction and fantasy, it isnt real life. But I do agree with Davids analysis of the British Empire lol some people still exist like that today believe it or not.
Just finished my first pass with Goldfinger...my final Bond novel! Agree with "wrestlingbuff87" below, it was also middle of the road for me. The golfing chapter is downright boring. Dr. No is a much better book, imo. Always watch your book club vids after I finish one, while they're fresh in my mind. Had a controversial thought to share, but as this video is over 2 years old, I will withhold it...cuz what's the point at this point? Well done, gents!

Hilarious fellas. Great insights all round too.
Another great book club! As a gay Bond fan, thank you for giving time and respect to this topic!
Just a great chat, makes me want to read the book… again 😊
Brilliant! Really enjoyed this, thanks

More mistaken than wrong. Interesting.
Not sure why, but I'm having a tough time getting through this one.
It is by far one of the weakest books

Reading through them all and jus finished GOLDFINGER and honestly…the best one so far. So rich and compelling.
Hertfordshire is pronounced "hart-furd-sheer"

Is it at all relevant that Pussy Galore is clearly described as Elizabeth Taylor?
Relax! There's Christian Clubs. There's Jewish Clubs. (Grew up by one.) Men's. Women's. ...
