The Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of St. James, is a network of pilgrimage routes that lead to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain, where the remains of the apostle Saint James are believed to be buried.
The Camino Via de la Plata, which translates to "Way of the Silver" in English also is known as the Southern Way. It begins in the ancient city of Seville and passes through the regions of Andalusia, Extremadura, and Castilla y Leon and is known for its beautiful landscapes, rich history, and cultural significance and offers a unique opportunity to connect with the land and with oneself, as well as with other travelers along the way.
People have been walking the Via de la Plata for millennia as it started out as a Roman trading route. You will be constantly reminded that you are on the original route that joined the cities of Merida and Astorga, from the old roman road surfaces you walk on, to seeing the old roman millenario mile markers columns that used to mark the way.
Whilst the VLP officially ends in Astorga, most pilgrims follow the arrows down the Camino Sanábres to Santiago via Ourense as I do in this video.

wow, you have really put a lot of excellent content out on youtube and your website. Thank you very much.
You're very welcome!
Congratulations - on your 11 - wow - 11 Caminos 😮😮😮😮
Well done!! Loved your work!!!
Thank you...I have done a few more since...:)
Yes, very nice content - he does almost a town by town walk, and comments on the lodgings. We can follow along! (Stars on Google maps!)
Nice background music - not too distracting, nor loud, and in very good taste ❤
Love your drone shots, and we understsnd how much extra work it is to leave your camera in one place so you can show you walking - then to go back and pick up your camera from where you had left it, to facilitate your walking shots! A lot of extra work! 😮
Thank you for taking us along!
Thank you very much!!!
Loving your Camino videos Rolf - really beautifully done
Thank you! Glad you like them!
Bon Camino!!!
AWESOME ❤
Thanks 🤗
Inspiring. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Rolf tu documental Via della Plata es un gran trabajo! ¡¡Lo veré de nuevo ahora, gracias!!🙏
Muchísimas gracias!
My whole family followed with great attention your amazing Camino, we liked the editing a lot and we liked your attention to the details, along with your simplicity. Thank you for this video.
I am glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for your feedback.
Rolf, I really like your Camino videos. They are the best !
Thank you very much! I am just finishing off another one of the Camino del Norte...Should be done in a few more days...
Absolutely brilliant - the photography, your narration and the music perfection. Thank you
Thank you very much. I appreciate your kind remarks.
An outstanding documentary on the the Ruta de la Plata Camino, so informative and utterly enjoyable. I’ll definitely watch it again before I do this Camino some day. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with all of us.
Thank you very much. I am glad you enjoyed it.
I completed my vdlp last fall. I remember commenting to family and friends a very similar observation as you have posted here. I couldn’t agree more. Thanks for sharing.
Glad to hear. It's a great camino!
Great job! I enjoyed very much watching your via de la plata camino and will check your other camino.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing your experience on the Via del la plata, one day I will walk it more than likely it will be my last. Before covid I scheduled to do it in 2022 but I did the Norte, Primitivo and Maxi all in one go. Eventually I will catchup with backlog, thank you.
I am glad you enjoyed it. I wish you a Buen Camino!
Excellent presentation , it ticks all the essential box's for a Camino video, infirmarive and entertaining 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙏🏼
Buen Camino
Thank you very much!
Outstanding video, thank you, Rolf! The weather couldn't be more different. You started your way in shorts & t-shirts, then it was 6 layers, and back to shorts & t-shirts. Socks over gloves was a great idea though
Thank you, I am glad youenjoyedthe video. The cold weather was quite a surprise, but thankfully it was only for a few days.
Your report about the Camino Via del la Plata inspired me a lot.
Please let me ask you 2 questions:
On what date did you start and on what date did you arrive in Santiago?
(Question because of season and weather)
Which sleeping bag would you recommend for this time of year in the pilgrim hostels (comfortable temperature)?
Many thanks in advance and best regards from Germany ... Alfred
Hi Alfred I started March 5 if i am not wrong. I don't use a sleeping bag just a bag liner. Hope this helps.... Buen Camino.
Watched this video twice now, I really enjoyed it. Very informative and enjoyable. Beautiful scenery, nice to hear you talk about your experience. thx for sharing!! I'm definitely going one day...😎
Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it! The VLP is my favorite Camino and I hope you get to enjoy it I wish you a Buen Camino.
Easily some of the best Camino content on TH-cam. Deserves many, many more views.
Thank you very much!
amazing video thank you , superbe reportage with your drone and your camera
Many thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
the best video via de la plata i follow you videos very interesting
Thank you very much!
Great video! Thanks Rolf! I must have been 11 or 12 days behind you having left Sevilla on March 18!!
Thank you. I am glad you liked the video. The VLP was probably my favorite. On the 18th I was in Fuenteroble just before the 1/2 ways point.
Very beautuful, super presentation, I really enoyed watching it.
I am glad you enjoyed it.
Grande! Complimenti.
Grazie!
Thank you for a very interesting description and so excelent English pronunciation. I understood almost all. And very nice videos. I walked Sevilla to Salamanca last April in a nice weather, maybe a bit too hot. Want to do the rest this year. Thanks from Ingeborg, a Norwegian《half old》lady
I am glad you can understand me.:) and happy you liked the video.
Really appreciated this overview of the camino(s) in one video! I keep hearing from pilgrims I meet that Via de la Plata was their favorite. How does it rank for you? Thanks!
Via de la Plata is great and was my favorite but it just lost it's top spot to the Camino Lebaniego/Vadiniense over the Picos de Europa.
what a great documentary.. veery good job Rolf!
Many thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi, amazing work on documenting Via de La Plata. I've walked this camino in october, 2022, I'm planning to walk again but would like to walk in a different season, when did you started at Sevilla?
Thank you! I started the first week of March.
I'm testing out new rain jackets/ponchos. What one did you use for this camino and did you like it? Any suggestions for your favorite one? Thanks!
On the poncho I am kind of undecided. The Orange deacon one was heavy and not as compact and light as the blue Altus but it seamed to keep me dryer. Other than that I just carry a regular compact puffer and a ultra compact wind jacket from Uniqlo.
I am doing this walk in May and I have watched this video 3 times already! This is perfect. Thank you for doing this. I learned so much; attire, electronics, food, markings, etc...thanks 10 stars!!!!
You are so welcome! Be sure to download the free PDF the link is in the description. Buen Camino!!
I starting also from may 5-6. Buen Camino🎉
Just beautiful, thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you!
Loved it... again!
I am glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic video, thanks!
Thank you!
Amazing Video ❤
Thank you!
Si... Es super bonita...
I realy enjoyed your video.
Briljant views and very helpful information, especially because I am going to Via de la Plata this year also in April. 😎🙏
Thank you! I am glad you liked it. I wish you a Buen Camino!
Great video. It's so fun to reflect on my walk of the same route through your video. I'm very curious about when your walk was, to compare my experiences with time of year and the weather you were having. When did you leave Seville? I left Seville this past March 9 and arrived in Santiago in 45 days later on April 21. Thanks for sharing your video.
Glad you enjoyed it. I left March 6 or 7th... I am not 100% sure when I arrived in Santiago... but I took a 2 day break in Salamanca as a friend was arriving.
There must be apps or maps which show the way, when the walking trail "goes into the woods" or "follows a muddy stream"? Some sections look very confusing, and I think I would be in a panick!!! A person has to keep their eyes open, and pay attention!!!
Buen Camino App has good maps...:)
@@rolfscaminos Thank you!!
Congratulations, good way and good video. One question, when did you make a Camino, in what’s season?
Because I’m going to start in the next 20 October in Granja de Moreruela.
Thanks.I did it in spring March through April. I wish you a Buen Camino!
I enjoied your video. Very informative. When did you started the Camino? I am going on next March I think is already a good weather. Thank you so much.🙏
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. I started the first week of March. I wish you a Buen Camino!
I want to seee you on more caminos
I have many coming up....
Thankyou for your video, very informative and valuable. I will be starting my vdlp mid April, any guides to help on my way😊? Thanks again
You are welcome..I have a Free PDF with all the information you need. The link is in the description. Buen Camino!!!
@@rolfscaminosmany thanks, getting very excited to start the adventure 😅
It's was my favorite camino. Enjoy!
Hi loving the videos
You probably have mentioned it in a previous vid but I haven’t been able to find it
What is the brand of your poncho( front zip) ?
Thank you. The poncho is from Decatlon. Here is the link:www.decathlon.es/es/p/poncho-impermeable-de-montana-y-trekking-max-75-litros-adulto-quechua-900/_/R-p-5389?mc=8302453
😍
Thanks!
Another beautiful share! Thank you. Have you done the Via Francigena?
Not yet. I was thinking of doing it un April but I am not 100% sure yet.
I will definitely keep an eye out for another possible walk with you. Thank you Rolf 🙏
Thank you for sharing this! In your experience, are there many stretches without any internet coverage?
You are welcome. If you get a local SIM card from Movistar you will not have a problem with coverage. It us super cheap... about €10 for 30 gb of data and unlimited calls. Just make sure your phone is unlocked (not tied to a carrier)
It looks like chasing kilometers
there are many to catch....
What time did this path begin?
I did it in March - April
@@rolfscaminos tank you!
Did you use luggage transport?
Nope...Also I am not sure if there is such a service on the VLP.
Whem to finisterre and muxia
one of these days I will get around to editing those videos...
i CANT SUGGEST OTHER ROUTES IN GALICIA?
Sanambres is very pretty and the Camino de Invierno
Which one sneakers have you?
Nike Trail...
Have you seen any snakes during your entire walk?
Nope...Not a single one...
@@rolfscaminosgood. That’s my only fear 😂
