You are a younger driver who enjoys driving. As an older driver, I always prefer to use FSD supervised as much as possible. I manually drive out of the garage onto the street before engaging FSD. I do not use Auto-Speed because it does not allow me to change the speed for instance when the speed limit sign periodically is incorrect and sometimes by a large amount. I also will use the scroll wheel to throttle the speed when approaching disabled vehicles and/or emergency vehicles including changing lanes before getting close to them. I also manually drive the car in parking lots. When I disengage I also provide a voice note when I intervene or takeover. I also keep my hand on the wheel with FSD 12.3.6, and I do not get the wheel nag during the day. However, the same pressure on the wheel at night, displays many wheel nags.
I will need to do this as well. The auto-speed setting on 12.4.3 has been making it unusable, although I liked it in previous versions. I will need to go back to making this adjustable.
WoW, another outstanding FSD video. I am a car-guy in my 60's and I just purchased a Tesla with FSD. I have watched hours of TH-cam FSD videos, but I am terrified to give FSD a try! I think this was the video that will give me the confidence to give FSD a try. I love your approach in using FSD as a supplement to ordinary driving. I am impressed at how smoothly FSD can be enabled and disabled but supports continuity in the off-periods. I, like you, love driving but hate being in slow moving traffic == what a great time for FSD. The driver can enjoy the fast S turns while FSD deals with slow city traffic.
Thank you so much. I'm a strong advocate for doing proper supervision of FSD. I understand the need to get viewers, keep viewers and entertain viewers. I still watch YT vids of the latest FSD version, even though I've had it on my own car for over 3 months now. I mainly watch to see what problems other people are having so I can be better prepared when I drive. I drive my '24 Model 3 more like you do when you are off-camera. I sometimes think I'm a bit too quick to issue 'right foot supervision'. Most of my disengagements are because it's easier to disengage and force a re-route than to fiddle with the navigator. Most parking lots I use are herring-bone angled parking, FSD's weakest skill, so plenty of manual driving there. At 73, I bought FSD to take some of the load off me. Now I arrive at any destination feeling less stressed.
FSD drove me from Virginia to Grand Canyon National Park and back. 99% FSD, hands only when the car nagged me, which was quite a lot during a 4,000+ mile journey. The only interventions during the entire trip were just so I could get away from road raging Tesla haters. FSD was superb and even avoided a car crash, where as the vehicles behind me were unable to avoid. FSD may not be perfect, but it managed to drive me across country and back with no issues. That's pretty impressive to me.
I pull out of the garage and engage FSD. I disengage when I enter a parking lot, but I almost always use auto park. I have been driving for almost 40 years and would rather watch FSD drive. 12.4.3 has been working perfectly for me.
Omar this is fantastic. This is also how I use FSD. I think this type of content would be vary useful for new tesla drivers. I have had a couple times on the freeway where traffic ahead of me has gone from 70mph to full slam on the breaks accident avoidance mode, and my ML3R has just thrown up the red steering wheel, disabled FSD, and thrown full control to me. My foot is usually in a position ready to take over and my hand is usually still resting on the wheel, so taking over was quick, safe, and no accident occurred. However I still think to myself every time, if I was overly trusting of autopilot/FSD and wasn't at the ready I probably wouldn't had an accident. This is SUPERVISED.

Thanks for the update. I’m glad to see that I pretty much use like a pro like you do. There are a couple of spots where I take over when there is much traffic because FSD is too slow/timid and ties up the traffic.
Thanks for posting this as that is how FSD is meant to be used in its current version. I let FSD do 95% of the drive and will use accelerator presses when it’s taking too long to make decisions or going slow. Have realistic expectations and it is supervised FSD in its current version. Don’t expect it to drive like you would is the key expectation. Get to know the software and when you will need to disengage for convenience or safety reason (parking lots, courtesy, mapping issue, or known issues, etc.).
I guess I'm the exception then, I use it pretty close to 99% of the time I drive. Parkinglot to parkinglot, about 35,000km all on fsd now. I've done about 6 long cross country road trips now and there is not a single doubt in my mind that I haven't gotten my value out of it. Driving in new cities where you don't know the streets or one ways is a game changer

Transitioning from FSD to manual should be smooth but using the wheel to take over is jerky. Using the brake or lever is smooth unless you're on a curve and then suddenly the car straightens out. But except for these two cases, using FSD as an assistant is a dream come true.
In reality I use FSD for 99% of my time. I have 30K miles on FSD in the last 18 months. I live in a big city and I use it without problems. I recommend that you use FSD all the time to know where to take over. I noticed that most tester on youtube just us FSD for a show. Learning to trust the system is the first important step. Trust the system.
I have a slight variation on this theme: I drive manually in situations where I can expect doing so results in less anxiety than if I were to use FSD. So yeah - to exit my neighborhood I have to make a right turn onto a 4-lane road where people drive 50mph (35 is the limit) and visibility is limited. FSD can do it, but I just wait for the crowd (cars tend to cluster in packs) to clear and then make my turn. Less stress for me. Once on the main road I let FSD do the work.
One thing I noticed is that on 12.3.6, when going down a road that is 65mph with red lights, is that it will continue to speed in the direction of the red light where there are cars lined up stopped. I get uncomfortable bc I would have slowed down by then, and I slow down myself. But overall, FSD works VERY well, even on 12.3.6!
First, why do I own a Model 3. I got the car from a real Tesla enthusiast who could no longer drive himself, and he described FSD beta as the worst thing he ever bought He never used it. I had to bring the car from near Sparks NV down to the Bay Area. I did not try FSD or autopilot, I was mostly concerned with range. Foolish concern but I didn't know that then. Just prior to that trip drove up in a nearly new rental Toyota (not a bad car at all, and a more comfortable ride than the Model 3), The cruise control was not very smooth on winding sections, so it was mostly a self-drive. Stuck in traffic I thought wouldn't it be nice if on a drive over the Sierra I was able to enjoy the scenery and not arrive tired after a long drive. So I updated the FSD and gave it a go. It hinted of possibilities, but there was no way in which it could be called full self-driving. Now I am up the 12.3.4 and wow is it better, better but not yet smooth and safe. Maybe San Francisco traffic is somehow different than in the burbs, but right now it does fine on one trip and then scares the pants off you on the next (getting into the wrong lane, then stopping before moving to the right across three lanes of traffic). Wife in hysterics, other drivers showing support by making gestures, then a smooth safe ride for the rest of the trip. I and very important my wife, want a car that is fully self driving. One that can exit my garage and park at the destination. If FSD12.5 takes a big step in this direction we will by a new Tesla. If not, we will probably sell the Mod 3 and get something with pistons and a tail pipe. I think the market for real self driving is very large, many older people will gladly buy it to extend their independence. The arc of my driving has gone from an old Porsche (driven long and hard) to an OH-6 (dangerous fun in a armed flying sports car), to a Lexus and now a Tesla. My wife can drive, but doen't enjoy it. She prefers the Lexus to the Tesla but is ready to be persuaded.
Thanks for testing out the 4 way stop with the flashing red light at Flagler Lane and 190th. FSD still could use some work. I think your stated statistic about Waymo at 18,000 (whatever the unit is) vs FSD at 1,000, is overly kind to Waymo beyond the geofencing issue. The San Francisco FD has complained bitterly about Waymo (and Cruise) just stopping when they encounter accidents. There was just a news story about how Waymos are ignoring school crossing guards although Waymo claims their cars handle human traffic guidance. At the state level, I would be banning Waymo until this is 100% fixed. Then Waymo doesn't exactly advertise that they have what they call Human Fleet Response Agents, who are charged with getting Waymo vehicles out of problems. It's right on Waymo's web site in a May 21, 2024 article. A response agent is the antithesis of autonomous driving. The Tesla FSD approach of using the driver as the human response agent seems much more scalable.
I use FSD from the second I leave the driveway to my destination. Aspirationally, FSD should be 100% FULL SELF DRIVING. Not 99% FSD. Does driving manually really help train the FSD model? I have noticed that 12.4.3 has gone backwards in some areas and I would like to get it those skills back.
I think something is wrong with my Tesla software. Maybe they mistakenly installed Chevy's Cruise or something. I went on a short drive (4 mi) yesterday with my new 12.4.3 and on 3 occasions the vehicle came to a complete stop and would not proceed (for at least 30 secs) until I tapped the go pedal. Twice while stopped making a left turn, it just sat there after the traffic cleared. Once when coming out of a parking lot and stopped to wait for traffic to clear (but there was no traffic). But the kicker was this... approaching an intersection the light turned yellow. Car slowed down. Light turned red when I was about 100-150 ft from the light. Car SPED UP! I held off until the last possible moment and had to slam on the brakes to avoid running the light. Now how is it possible that my experience so far has been dismal, when I see these FSD testers on TH-cam going miles & miles without a hitch? (2021 Model S Plaid)
In Las Vegas I use fsd around 95% of the time (also with Tesla insurance) but as Omar said if it's a known problem area I do intervene if there is traffic. But I also send a feedback with description and I've seen certain problem areas fixed
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one that drives the way you do. Been using FSD for over two years now. I have a question do you know why they haven’t rolled out 12.4.3 to other beta testers I’m still stuck on 12.3.6 / 14.9?
I started with FSD v11.4.4 with my very first Tesla, a 2023 M3P w/ included FSD package, bought used directly from Tesla when they were giving them away last November. Then purchased my 2024 MYP last March with free FSD transfer from my M3P, and stayed with v11.4.9 for a week or so before receiving FSD v12.3.2.1. I'm just an ordinary FSD customer on v12.3.6/2024.14.9, and definitely not in any hurry for the next version until v13 or higher. There were significant improvements between v11.4.4 and v12.3.2.1 operating on city streets, but not much after that. Think Tesla has laid off way too many topnotch FSD developmental engineers that took with them the secret sauce; we call it black magic in integrated circuit manufacturing. Read online this week that Tesla is in the process of hiring quite a few new FSD developmental engineers. Hopefully they will be able to bring back the topnotch ones with the secret FSD sauce. lol
Are you actually "teaching" the car how you would do the driving? My understanding is that it only "learns" from the great driver's ed university somewhere in the bowels of Tesla, and then takes that knowledge when it is out driving. Not learning by example from the driver of the moment.
The car is not self learning right now. The only teaching you can do right now is sending intervention video which is hopefully used for future training (or not). It is possible that Tesla runs FSD in shadow test mode and see how it does versus human driving and does its own flagging but I doubt that level of intervention is being tracked at the moment.
Where did you get the idea that the car can be taught by a human driver? I think that is wishful thinking. What happens when a bad driver decides to “teach” the car bad habits? I don’t think an individual driver actually teaches the car anything. The driving behavior is built in to each software release by the Tesla team.

Omar, I love your contributions to the Tesla community! Some of the best out there. But when driving manually (no FSD), how is it you don't have either hand on the steering wheel (3:38) for a short amount of time. That simply should never be. Please stay safe.
In your analogy FSD is completely out if current logic of the system. Turning on the FSD is actually is more stressful for the driver supervising the system due to your not only monitoring the FSD system, but your also driving for the car so in logic its stressful. Also when paying $100 of $8k the fact that Tesla don't take any responsibility for the car insurance is beyond me. Oh ya I drive my Tesla with no regard for speeding limit and sharing the road to the public 🙈🫣.

Yes 80/20 FSD/manual is a great ratio-- use FSD on main roads, and "problem areas" go manual 🎉

I do the same thing with confusing freeway exits, I just turn on FSD and let it pick the lane

Does driving manually really help train the FSD model? I have noticed that 12.4.3 has gone backwards in some areas and I would like to get it those skills back.
I think something is wrong with my Tesla software. Maybe they mistakenly installed Chevy's Cruise or something. I went on a short drive (4 mi) yesterday with my new 12.4.3 and on 3 occasions the vehicle came to a complete stop and would not proceed (for at least 30 secs) until I tapped the go pedal. Twice while stopped making a left turn, it just sat there after the traffic cleared. Once when coming out of a parking lot and stopped to wait for traffic to clear (but there was no traffic). But the kicker was this... approaching an intersection the light turned yellow. Car slowed down. Light turned red when I was about 100-150 ft from the light. Car SPED UP! I held off until the last possible moment and had to slam on the brakes to avoid running the light. Now how is it possible that my experience so far has been dismal, when I see these FSD testers on TH-cam going miles & miles without a hitch? (2021 Model S Plaid)
You obviously don't have Tesla insurance where it dings you for all kinds of stuff. I have to do FSD all the time to keep my insurance low.
In Las Vegas I use fsd around 95% of the time (also with Tesla insurance) but as Omar said if it's a known problem area I do intervene if there is traffic. But I also send a feedback with description and I've seen certain problem areas fixed
I wonder if the $99 fsd could save me at least close to the $99 for Tesla insurance?
How do you tell the car that is doing something wrong? I saw you touch the screen somewhere.

I have a question do you know why they haven’t rolled out 12.4.3 to other beta testers I’m still stuck on 12.3.6 / 14.9?
I started with FSD v11.4.4 with my very first Tesla, a 2023 M3P w/ included FSD package, bought used directly from Tesla when they were giving them away last November. Then purchased my 2024 MYP last March with free FSD transfer from my M3P, and stayed with v11.4.9 for a week or so before receiving FSD v12.3.2.1.
I'm just an ordinary FSD customer on v12.3.6/2024.14.9, and definitely not in any hurry for the next version until v13 or higher. There were significant improvements between v11.4.4 and v12.3.2.1 operating on city streets, but not much after that. Think Tesla has laid off way too many topnotch FSD developmental engineers that took with them the secret sauce; we call it black magic in integrated circuit manufacturing.
Read online this week that Tesla is in the process of hiring quite a few new FSD developmental engineers. Hopefully they will be able to bring back the topnotch ones with the secret FSD sauce. lol

Are you actually "teaching" the car how you would do the driving? My understanding is that it only "learns" from the great driver's ed university somewhere in the bowels of Tesla, and then takes that knowledge when it is out driving. Not learning by example from the driver of the moment.
The car is not self learning right now. The only teaching you can do right now is sending intervention video which is hopefully used for future training (or not). It is possible that Tesla runs FSD in shadow test mode and see how it does versus human driving and does its own flagging but I doubt that level of intervention is being tracked at the moment.
Tesla will be wondering why all the new orders are in from tomorrow............. (after watching this video)

Where did you get the idea that the car can be taught by a human driver? I think that is wishful thinking. What happens when a bad driver decides to “teach” the car bad habits? I don’t think an individual driver actually teaches the car anything. The driving behavior is built in to each software release by the Tesla team.

Omar, I love your contributions to the Tesla community! Some of the best out there. But when driving manually (no FSD), how is it you don't have either hand on the steering wheel (3:38) for a short amount of time. That simply should never be. Please stay safe.
In your analogy FSD is completely out if current logic of the system. Turning on the FSD is actually is more stressful for the driver supervising the system due to your not only monitoring the FSD system, but your also driving for the car so in logic its stressful. Also when paying $100 of $8k the fact that Tesla don't take any responsibility for the car insurance is beyond me. Oh ya I drive my Tesla with no regard for speeding limit and sharing the road to the public 🙈🫣.
