CREEPY TORNADO SIREN - Dodge City Twin Tornadoes 5-24-16

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 9 มิ.ย. 2016
- Twin tornadoes heading into the Dodge City Kansas area while tornado warning sirens blare on May 24, 2016. This is Part 3 in a three part series documenting this extraordinary tornado outbreak. Over a dozen tornadoes including 2 EF3's and one EF2 touched down near Dodge City. No fatalities occurred and two victims with critical injuries were eventually released from the hospital. To license tornado video in 4K contact hankschyma@yahoo.com
The average tornado victim doesn't follow radar apps and forecast tools all day, rather they are going about their daily business when tornado warnings are issued. Most people seek shelter and then information but some take to the streets disoriented, desperate to check on loved ones and property. Others take to the streets to assist, spot and report, while others try to catch their glimpse of the rare phenomenon occurring. Near tornadoes, drivers eyes are often drawn to the sky in search of danger rather than focusing on traffic. This makes chasing tornadoes through populated areas extra dangerous!
MASS STORM CHASER CONVERGENCE SET-UP!
The last two weeks of May attract more storm chasers to the Plains then any other time to coincide with the annual mean peak tornado frequency. Sight seers from all over the world flock to storms here (and spend a lot of money) hoping to witness a tornado spectacle. On May 24th, the Storm Prediction Center hatched a 10% chance of tornadoes with the possibility for significant tornadoes in a relatively small bullseye in southwest Kansas. Just after 5 PM this day, an isolated storm exploded inside this bullseye and soon after went tornado warned. Hoards of sight seers and storm chasers new exactly where to be. A slow moving cyclic supercell spawned a dozen highly visible tornadoes attracting more and more people by the second. Passers by, sight seers, locals, storm chasers and all their grandmas were pointing cameras at the awesome spectacle. I'd like to point out that twice during this chase I ran into traffic. The first jam was created on a backroad as a local Sheriff was blocking hungry storm chasers from getting their close ups in order to maintain order and rely information. The second bought with traffic was heading north on highway 283 into Dodge City. Hundreds of storm watchers had all pulled their vehicles well off the road but two truck drivers in semis were slowly creeping along watching the tornadoes while driving instead of pulling over. Once I passed them, the streets were clear.
At 6:30 PM a tornado emergency was declared for Dodge City area.
Just west of Dodge City, power was knocked out as tornadoes snapped trees and damaged power lines. A tractor trailer was overturned blocking a highway and several homes and structures were destroyed. A home in Ensign was destroyed and a victim with critical injuries had to be extracted. Officials confirmed 9 structures damaged in the EF3 that came w/in a few miles of hitting Dodge. Several homes and buildings were destroyed in the Dodge City area, although Dodge City was spared. A large propane tank was leaking gas and a stock trailer was blown nearly 3 miles according to local reports. An oil take was also blown over. Crews immediately begin searching homes.
The orchestra of tornado sirens heard in this video is the actual sound of Dodge City's multiple tornado sirens harmonizing.
Music scored by Pecos Hank.
All video footage by Pecos Hank.
3 cameras documented this event in this video. One 4K camera and two HD cameras.

The shots at 1:36 almost give off a cosmic/Lovecraftian horror vibe. The creepy, airy whines reverberating over the open landscape, the sky obstructed by the dark clouds swirling unnaturally low to the ground, giving a sense of claustrophobia and confusion. Massive, dark tendrils reaching down from the heavens, like we've been found by a monster that we can't even begin to comprehend.

The way those sirens sound in combination with the deadly storm in the background is such a haunting, yet somewhat beautiful combination. It really reminds me of the mythical creatures that sirens were named after.

It's meant to scare the crap out of people I think sometimes. A few years ago where I live in Northern Illinois we had a series of tornadoes. In one day the sirens went off like 10 times. Every time I ran straight to the basement.
@Alex lol
I don’t know, they’re really creepy sounding aren’t they.
Tornadoes are one of my biggest fears. I went through one in late 1998 when I was 10. I had just started the 5th grade and was in a classroom that was a portable. The sky had turned pitch black like night. I had never seen it that dark during the day. Next thing you know the alarm goes off, and we had to rush into the strongest structure on campus, the music room. I remember a tire flying past on the way, and the rain was pouring completely to the side. Fortunately, the tornado breezed past the school, but it was not a good time.
That shot around 1:36 is so hauntingly beautiful with the sirens in the background

Dodge City's sirens have always sounded creepy af for some reason 😂 This is the same storm system that hit Chapman.... I had family living there and in Abilene at the time and a friend of mine in Chapman said the tornado came within just a few blocks of her home. Scary scary stuff. Makes you a little more... Appreciative, I guess, of how destructive they are.
These are some of the most beautifully cinematic shots I've ever seen. The accompanying sirens make an amazing score. The storm causes so much destruction here on the ground, but from space it's nothing but a calm and silent accumulation of clouds. Reminds you how small we really are. Maybe it's nihilism, but there is something ethereal about seeing nature indifferently destroy our man-made constructions. The power of nature is so beautiful. It’s what every artist tries to recreate.

1:33 wait those are sirens it almost sounds like a minor key in a horror/suspense film
Cybernetic Husky When Tornado Sirens are drunk 😂😂😂😂😂
Reminds me of LIMBO
y'all are tone deaf. minor keys and particular e minor are very melodic, this is a-tonal with no obvious key center and that's why it's scary.
however what you're getting at is something. horror/suspense films' music is scary precisely because it has no obvious tonal center which is exactly what happens when you have sirens all over town blaring at random pitches. the randomness and lack of a tonal center is why it's scary. it's a dissonant chord
Cybernetic Husky you should see the chicago sirens
At 1:34 when you zoomed in on it, combined with the wails of the siren, made the tornado seem to be an angel of death with its choir of cherubs announcing the end is near
Yeah definite "End Times" vibe for sure

I'm still around the same place I grew up, but thankfully, I haven't had a twister scare in a couple years, and I wanna keep it that way. So I won't jinx it as it's about fall, and that's when we have our twister season.
Also, the music you use in the background of your vids give me absolute chills. It really adds to the horror of these wind cyclones.
And to answer your question, "What would you do if a tornado was attacking your town right now?" Boi, I would have already packed my stuff, and pets in the car, and moved far away before even a tornado watch could be issued. I watch the weather LIKE A HAWK.
