The song’s meaning is about the person’s inner struggle - with loneliness, or perhaps making peace with that loneliness and rising above it. The vibe is more of steady determination, seeking something, and then finally at the end, breaking through the surface of the weight of that struggle - that first breath of air. BTOB MVs usually have more of a hopeful, comforting, encouraging and calming effect to them, maybe not a big wow effect initially but very easy on the ears for repeated listen and comforting vibes. They tend to make you feel at peace internally. Hyunsik loves the ocean and diving so the sea is not meant to be overwhelmingly crushing really but maybe more of an enveloping and powerful presence.
For us, Melody, who knows well Hyunsik and his BTOB brothers- the music video represent him as individual and with the group - as himself, as an idol- the struggle and journey to be himself in KPOP INDUSTRY, & be firm & be stable in his/their place in music industry.
Love the comment in the live stream at the end of the MV saying "The MV doesn't seem to belong to the song" when it has EVERYTHING to do with the song lmao. The album is called The Young Man And The Deep Sea, a reference to the book The Man And The Sea were he calles the sea La Mar instead of El Mar (will not elaborate on this here). The whole album has a storyline throughout, this MV and song sums it up pretty well! My take on the MV: He's saving himself from being lost/depressed from a lost dream. He's looking for a reason to keep going and not be lost anymore. (In real life this can be any negative feeling/depression and then finding a reason to keep going). In the beginning you think some type of apocalypse has happened and he's breathing through water instead of air and everything he sees is wet, meaning he might be near a sea, but also we understand that something has happened to the long haired man. The long haired him with a tank giving him oxygen through "the sea"(water) is the lost one. He's looking for the sea that he thinks he belongs too but he runs out of water, that he's breathing through, by the time he discovers La Mar, the sea. Everything he sees is wet so I'm thinking he thinks he's near the water that he's looking for, but in reality he's drowning. In real life the closer he gets to the sea the more he has consumed the water (that he ended up breathing through), which in real life means he is drowning. Can mean that he's drowning in lost/depressed feelings. (He's been living on land the same way we dive in water in real life and use air tanks in the sea). The short haired him, the one belonging to the land and therefor is not lost/depressed etc, is the one saving him by diving in the sea and getting the light. Even in the middle of the road he's not afraid to get hit because he's the only one there, he's lonely, so ultimately they are the same person but different parts of him, the lost one and the one saving him. At the end of the MV he's gone when the light is spread in him and in the world, the light might be hope. And the only man left is the long haired man. I think this means that the man he saved is himeslf in the MV, they became one. (Just as the lyrics goes "I know were to go, I know I CAN go!", that's how he found the light). At the end of the MV he seems content and breathes the air in a gratitude kind of way, in real life; he saved himself from drowning in depression and is thankful to be alive. Real life Hyunsik is in solitude by his beloved sea. - describes Hyunsik perfectly actually, that's who he is! Ulitimately, this song gives you comfort if you ever felt this way, you know that you are the only one that can get you out of that feeling, and this song reminds you of that, I think it gives you a reminder of your own strength! Beautiful voice, beautiful music, beautiful MV and beautiful lyrics! (As always!!) Edit: Highly recommend his other MV Dear Love, although it reference to quantum entanglement (two particles that in a way are entangled, no matter how far they get from each other one of them's condition is dependent on the other, the other one gets affected). Hyunsik said: "it's kinda like love", so he made a song expressing that type of love. The MV is set in his other hobby to explore, space.
Hyunsik is a profesional diver and has rescue diver lisence so all the underwater scenes are real shoot in the ocean. He produced All the songs in this mini album
Thank you for your comments and perception of this mv..I appreciate it. Yes, many people have diferent takes on it..different explanations or comments..it's ok. we're all free to say our point of views. But for us Melody (BTOB fandom)..we believe this is Hyunsik's personal story about his career/journey. You see, they're a group of almost 12 years now..have been through a lot..and I think sometime..somewhere..he got his feeling of hopelessness or depression. That's why he felt like sinking deeper, darker..found it hard to breathe..like he lost his dream or inspiration maybe..lost his sense of direction..his purpose. That's why the "long haired image of him" trying hard to breathe, trying to cope..searching, wandering..looking for something he can't seem to find. And he's losing air, hope, losing the strength to go on. But this other image of him that kept swimming and looking for that something essential to him..finally found it. That bright light..that hope burning deep within him..he found it..he was able to overcome that feeling of hopelessness and that inner struggle. That's why with the words "coz I know where to go..and I know I can go.." he found his dream again, his purpose of living..he was able to defeat depression and avoid being sucked down in the deep. In the end, was able to live and breathe again. Maybe as a director's point of view..you feel that it's lacking impact or something..it's ok. It's not a movie anyway that needed climax or plot twists. I guess it's how the artist perceived his music video to be..to be able to tell what he was going through and was able to accomplish this very day. From being a trainee to an idol to an accomplished singer, songwriter, composer and producer..and now they established their own group's company..it's really something to be proud of and worth celebrating. Also, all underwater scenes were really filmed and shot under the sea..not in a studio, not even CGI. Hyunsik is a licensed diver and really loves being in the sea and he really worked hard for this ocean themed album that he released a few days ago. Thanks for reacting to La Mar.
Thank you so much for giving your time and attention to this music video 🙏🏻 I think what you took away from this MV was just the video and imagery itself. However, I think it is also very important to consider in the lyrics of the song and the context. Obviously, it is up to each person’s tastes; if they prefer to understand the story just visually or visually + lyrically. In my opinion, this music video is a masterpiece. It so visually beautiful and perfectly represents the lyrics so well. The thing I appreciate the most are the metaphors: him in the sea represents him in his lonely heart, the clam and singing man inside represents his hopes and dreams, and him on the land represents him struggling to breathe in the industry. The album is inspired by the book “the old man and the sea” and its message is unwavering hope. The fact that the lonelier he felt, the more easy it is for him to find hope within himself (hence his loneliness became solitude). The hope is so powerful that it changes his whole perspective of the world, so he manages to save himself, and is immune to the harsh industry (no longer need to use the gas mask) he is finally able to breathe once again.
Ver LA MAR fue tan refrescante ... Simplemente el tocando la guitarra y cantando apasionadamente nada de sobre carga las olas del mar y la locación! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love Hyunsik, love his songs, love his voice. For me , you have 2 personalities....the one that is drowning with the suit....I think represents the system or who you are supposed to be. The other with long hair, the one you want to be, your hopes and your dreams. So the first one is struggling but finds the light to keep the other alive, and let it breathe. The scene that he is singing underwhater with the long hair flowing, and the rays of sunshine...omg...I FEEL him.
I don't really mind what the mv is about. What i CARE is their voice, their message, the way they make music amd the MEMBERS themselves. Thanks tho. PS. there are two Hyunsik here. The merman and the human trying to save the merman. And everything was filmed underwater REAL.
Hyunsik use the sea as a figure of speech about his life journey. The lyrics of the song explained it. And for those chats that are still confused maybe they have to start reading The Old Man And The Sea bc Hyunsik get that idea from there and his scienced mind. Sometime he thought what could have been if by genetic whatsoever sea creatures lungs will be transplanted to humans. So we can also breath underwater. Please excuse my term and English, not a native speaker and also not a science person but i kind of understand Hyunsik's idea.
Thanks for reacting to BTOB's Hyunsik. He is a man who loves outer space and the sea. He is sharing his process of overcoming growing weary of life and overcoming loneliness by finding comfort in the sea (as a licensed rescue diver) and hope within himself to keep on living in this very tiring world. As a 3-year-old Melody I've heard some of the parts of this song in others of his solo songs, but the MV, the lyrics and Hyunsik's guitar solo put this song on my daily playlist.
His voice is amazing. Personally I don't care to work so hard to get what the hell this song was about. I liked that you tried to figure it out though.
Thank u for your reaction. Maybe he can use your input for his next mv 😊. Can u please react to his previous mv: Dear Love. It's another interesting and unusual mv concept. Thank u.
And most mvs are not as directly as the song means as it is. It is a music video, not just the mv production- there is also the song, the lyrics and vocal, the intrumentation to consider
This is on budget self made mv and self compose production mini album. Personally, among all idols his age or era, Hyunsik did extremely well.
I believe this was all filmed without CGI as well. Apparently, he is also a skilled diver, so they filmed it all in the ocean!

I like this soft rock vibe and the lyrics are so bittersweet. Although the translation doesn't really capture how poetic it's written in Korean.
I love Hyungsiks voice and the song made me cry.

That voice will take you places. It does invoke an underwater calm.
I love his other mv that Dear Love. Its a fabulous story and his voice its amazing
He said he filmed all the scenes in the sea without CG!!!☺️
so if you see it in the middle, fish will also come out😁

Imagine if you could direct a mv for this artist. I would love to see that!
월드스타 임현식!!
His voice is amazing. Personally I don't care to work so hard to get what the hell this song was about. I liked that you tried to figure it out though.
Same here.
I wonder if he paid for his own MV (BtoB just started their own company). I love this song
They did that before under Cube, he filmed it when he was under Cube so I'm guessing yes!
Their solo albums are self produce
Imminence with their newest track “Continuum”. Violincore at its best.
Half heavy and half soft. The mixture is perfect.
Love this MV
His voice is great, try Dear Love n Swimming. He also a good diver.
Thank u for your reaction. Maybe he can use your input for his next mv 😊.
Can u please react to his previous mv: Dear Love. It's another interesting and unusual mv concept. Thank u.
Are you only analysis the mv only? Not song & vocal?🧐

Yeah. You don't see the channel name? He is a director. Ofc he talk abt the mv and visual
