I've seen Jimmy probably 4 times..Best was at Callahans not too long before they closed. The harmonica player he had brought me to tears...soooo good. Covid f'ed up everything.
Caught Jim last Saturday @ Cadiex Cafe Detroit……Dual BDay blast for McCarty 6/1 and original band mate Johnny Bee Badanjek…Yeah !!!f-yeah First saw the Detroit Wheels with Mitch….gulp….56 years ago at the Walled Lake Casino… I had fake ID at 15yrs old….you ain’t rocked till you catch these Vets…..later
There aren't to many blues rock guitarists around anymore these days. But if you were looking to hear two of the remaining legends of that genre, you would find them here on stage at the Token Lounge. Derek has an amazing sound, and Jim..... What can you say? He is one or the best from the 60's- 70's era to come down the pike. Underrated an mostly overlooked he nevertheless stands out as one of the best guitarists on the planet for blues rock. DO NOT sell him short ! This guy can play. And with Derek you get that incredible one two punch that Duane Allman and Dickey Betts would provide. Really good stuff !!!
Outside of being a local legend in Detroit, I agree that Jim McCarty is largely overlooked by rock/blues music fans elsewhere. But I think there are quite a few guitarists out there in the music world that hold him in very high regard, but you just don't hear much about it. Jim doesn't seem like the type who really cares about that though.
@@SilverStallionVideos I agree. If you've heard him, you know. If you haven't, it's your loss. The first time I ever knowingly heard Jim was in 1971 when I bought the first Cactus album. The album was OK, but I was enthralled with the guitar work on No Need To Worry. I wanted to hear more of this guy Jim McCarty. But there was nothing. I recall thinking, how could such an Incredible guitarist just vanish from the music scene? Years latter I discovered that he was the guitarist on Mitch Ryders Devil in a Blue Dress. So, where did he go? Where is he now? Enter the internet circa 2015. On a whim, I looked him up. And to my surprise and great pleasure I found a wealth of information on him, and even better a ton of him playing. It may have taken 45 years, but at least I got to know and hear this great guitarist that as a 17 year old I knew and recognized as one of the best.
Detroit legend's Jimmy just sold the '64 Fender twin reverb he's using here to Nugent the amp he used to record Jenny take a ride and Devil with a blue dress. ✌🏽
Jimmy is the man. There is a recording out there somewhere with him playing in a club in New York with Hendrix. The do a tune called Jimi Jimmy Jam. Killer.
Great. I had no idea Derek was such a fine guitarist and still singing great.Jim McCarty is an old time crush. Of course because of camera placement St Holmes is louder the Jim, Thanks for the post.
Jimmy is ~74 here. How's he look so young given his history of substances and such? Not even fully gray yet! But then my recently deceased mother, had hardly any gray on her deathbed at age 85. So it's possible, I 'spose.
well how about that...that damn dude blew out a great pair of Techniques speakers I paid 300 bucks for in 1980, 40 years ago....and just now he blew out my Monsta's blue tooth i had cranked up to almost max....Jimmy you're an equipment wrecker.....but one of the best guitar masters out there, so I don't mind at all!
Nobody else sounds like Jim McCarty. He has his own definitive sound.

He's still out there rockin'. Just saw him recently. Here's a clip: th-cam.com/video/VXdm6KWJ_qg/w-d-xo.html

Pretty sure I had a Hendrix album called "Nine To the Universe" with that cut on it.
@@psubliminal35 You are correct, I have that record too.

Thanks for the post.
Thank you for this classic video and thank you Jimmy and Derek and the rest of the Band 2
fantastic players, derek is always a favorite
Really good grooves! Great blues players.
Man... They are both killer players, but Jim is in a whole other league.
Wow, what a performance! 👍👍
Both these guys and the Token Lounge are in my back door. Guess I need to get out!
What an excellent show! Had a blast and thanks for sharing.
I'll bet a lot of people don't realize Derek St. Holmes did most of the vocals for Ted Nugent's biggest hits.
Ted says Jimmy is one of his idols. That's a big deal.
Very big deal and a great piece of rock and roll history. ✌🏽
and Jimmy is featured session guitarist for much of Bob Seger's early recordings
Boooom Chaga lla lla
I'd rather listen to Derek than Nugent any day!!!! McCarty ,,, just dont get any better!!!!!
Two legends
Two legends on stage
It's so Awesome when someone inspires you to play and carry the Torch❤️💎 much Love...
Great jam.fantastic
Derick is the man

Derek is quite the guitarist as well. He's definitely an understudy of BB King, lot of his licks here.
❤️
That's Nice !
E C was here.
Ted Nugent loves Jim McCarty.

Derek is almost ten years younger than McCarty and yet he looks TEN YEARS OLDER than McCarty!
I hear a lot of Jimmy Page from this guy...Jimmy Page must have copied plenty of riffs from this musical legend.
Jim McCarty was with the Detroit Wheels long before this.
and the Rockets with Johny B. and Dave Gilbert, I wish the Rockets could've held it together....they were great
Hi has played whit one other guitarmaster
Mr michael schenker 💣💣
Asalt attak
Derek not Clapton but close to god
I like how the sound engineer EQed the kick drum mic for a metal band, WTF? Really ruined it.
❤
