Do you think the rye actually sprouts in the fall or does it just lay dormant until early spring and vernalize with a cold snap afterwards? I’ve planted November rye myself and haven’t been sure.
Great Question Aaron! It depends on soil moisture and temp...generally it will germinate and do just fine if its in the ground (drilled or worked in shallow). CerRye germinates around 34 degrees and is an amazing cover crop. Never miss the opportunity to have a live growing 24/7! Frost seeding it around feb/march in the upper Midwest is another solid option we are finding success with.
