Lance Klessig Regenerative Agriculture Advocate
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 27 ก.ค. 2019
🌾 👨🌾 I'm a big believer and promoter of Regenerative Agriculture & the Soil Health principles. I've been blessed to work all across much of the US and see many farms and ranches that are not only sustainable, but also regenerative. 🌻 🌱
Modern day production agriculture is changing in some very large ways as growers learn to focus on profitability and ROI. Often times, our biggest enemy is between our own 2 ears and what we tell ourselves & accept as "normal".
My Channel is here to share success stories from across the US where landowners, farmers, ranchers and the like are once again farming in sync with nature instead of fighting it.
➡️ To continue the soil health & regenerative farming discussion, please feel free to reach out to me directly at Lance.Klessig@gmail.com.
➡️ Technical assistance in designing cover crop mixes, direct marketing, incorporating livestock, and hosting educational field days & workshops is available if interested.
Thanks - Lance Klessig 👨🌾 🌻 🌽

The most important tools in farming. 👨🌾

What are our most important tools in farming? There are many answers depending on what time of farming we engage in, where we farm and what we’ve been taught. Today’s question remains…. WHAT is my most important tool?

What part of Minnesota? what about the harsh winters?
@@promesasbiblicas2023 SE Minnesota. Yes, we get a little bit of winter. However, it’s all about context. Did you have a specific question regarding the harsh winter maybe about not feeding Grain?
@@lanceklessigregenerativeag7901 A little bit of winter? 25 degrees below zero 😁 Where are them placed during those long snowy / cold months? Feeding? Breeding etc.
By the way - you got a new subscriber to your channel
@@promesasbiblicas2023 great question. We selected for breeding stock that we’re not being fed any grain. They were also not being trimmed or being poured. They have the shelter of a few cattle trailers put in a V to block a Northwest wind. And we also use the topography of the land to shelter them. Most goats would not be able to Withstand our winter type conditions.
I love putting these types of soils/covers in my rainfall simulator pans. This cover crop hits the quality of life and social dynamics of a healthy looking, healthy functioning soil. Thanks for sharing!
Is it profitable because he’s selling the seed or what does he do with it. Bare with me I’m not a farmer, just a backyard garden guy but i cover crop my beds.
@@Blingem14 Fair Question….he sells the seed as “feed”. See some of the comments.
Restorative agricultural practices that restore both the soil and your spirit.
@@lyleupdike4580 Very good perspective! Thanks for sharing
Awesome that they are using this method, but hope we can all push more people to grow their food locally without unsustainable expensive equipment like those big John Deer tractors.
I imagine those soil microbes are thriving under that stand of cover 👍
@@glenfredrickson2881 They most certainly are. Hope you’re well!
Great demo
It's all about the management!
When he says "roll it down into a cash crop" does he mean combining it? I've only ever knocked triticale down for hay
Yes I believe he was referencing combining. I'm recalling that in some years I believe he has to swat it first before combining because of the vetch. Thanks
@@lanceklessigregenerativeag7901 How does that work? Does he use a pickup head on the combine then?
who buys rye triticale and vetch
Other Farmers buy his product as "feed". And they may do something else besides feed it.
I grew up on a farm 60 miles west of you. Havana township/Owatonna.

Amen Brother, I listen to my audio bible while working my 1 acre, it regenerates my soul. God bless from Caldas da Rainha Portugal.
Thank you and same back at you.
Do you think that some seeds are left by birds that come to eat the seeds from tall grasses?
Yes and they likely help some of the seeds land on the ground and become part of the latent seed bank.
Location,?
SE Minnesota.
Where have ya been? Haven't seen anything new from my home state. I currently live in AZ. I like to see how your payoffs affect your farm. It's shows how the practice works. How to see you post again soon.

💯% I second that!
If your cost imputs are much less than the conventional way then your profit margin is much higher why not go this way? Profit is not a bad word in farming.
We wont be farming for long if we aren't profitable!
Like the concept behind the video, could be a little better scripted though. I did learn some things tho so thank you.
How to get that machine?
Do you give them any other feeds or they survive on the pasture only?
Thanks for the question. They get non-gmo grower mix along with pasture.
💯❤️🐮
I don’t think you talk enough about the Kiko vs Boer .. thank you
@@luisguerrero-jo4mi fair enough. I invite you to check out Wholesome Family farms. The Meyers are great friends of ours that have run many different breeds. And yes, they are in Minnesota and running a couple hundred nanny goats. @wholesomefamilyfarms
Nice video. Ive always heard 10 head per bail, but if your only grazing 1 bail how big of a area do you give them?
I’ve had a Jug watered installed by Dan foot over a year. Works great. Absolutely no problems!

How nutritious are the corn stalks compared to fescue or other meadow grasses? Thank you.
Thanks for the knowledge sharing Lance! Will this annual ryegrass help prevent weeds such as crabgrass and other broadleaf weeds? I have a hillside and it's easy to grow annual ryegrass. But hard to grow fine fescue. So I keep sowing fine fescue and annual ryegrass at the same time. Dealing with a lot of weeds this year though. Hoping for less weeds next year.
👀 That's a nice International
very cool since 2007
A good reflection on a simple fact: A farmer must be a store of wisdom and a master of many disciplines. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with 57,000 ratchet and tow straps in my truck. Hay looks good! - Peter
Let's be honest. If you don't have a Gallagher geared reel it's tough to call yourself a man. We got a couple that we built out of some rebar and a piece of PVC and they work great
Could it be even better with clover interseeded? Great video.
Don’t forget about inter seeding and grazing cattle after harvest on those corn stalks what a benefit that is.
Animal units can add a lot of profit. We need to get back to trying 60-inch corn again to see if you could make a continuous cornfield with little-to-no fertilizer
When you bring in fertilizer credits, and animal unit dollars I could give up a lot of peeled and still have a better profit versus how I used to do a full tillage purchase my production corn crop
Glad to see you are off on some more adventures Lance. Yes it's fun to being doing things outside the box if you make the opportunity happen. And make some "learning experiences", as they seem to be better teaching tools. Call me crazy but I decided to try winter barley after my dry peas this year. Hopefully the start emerging this weekend as they have a heck of a root system started🙂
what is total acreage for those 235 heads? Thanks - Bill
I know of that farm. Imagine what 250 cows could do in a year for healing land?! I have rental land that I am trying to find a guy who can bring cattle over and graze the corn stalk for free.
Beautiful ❤
The potential in custom management was a proper takeaway from this weekend. It is an object lesson that half my takeaways from a grazing school were from conversations with other attendees and not the speakers. - Peter
Multiple yrs of drought strung together n we are hurting getting crop out of the ground with the intense use. FCIC is totally fukking us now as well with these bullshitt GSI inspections leading to GFP denials.
It was great to visit with you today and look at the cows; some great looking animals you have there. - Peter
Uh, short answer is yes, but you’re gonna need a lot more acres than for a cow. The problem is a horse is VERY selective grazer🤷♂️. Horse bonds are powerful/unique.
Sure you have enough cattle trailers ? 6 ?
Absolutely! Modified layer wagons. We ran 250 hens last year w a guard dog. Move the cheap/free trailers and fertility is spread.
No till = no yields. if they did tillage they would be growing 280 bushel corn and 80 bushel beans.. ask me how I know
