For yourself, you have to watch the live version of this song that Chester sang on Jimmy Kimmel. While the song was originally about losing a friend to cancer, Chester dedicated the song to Chris Cornell when he committed suicide. Chester and Chris were incredibly close and the loss hit him extremely hard. And sadly, Chester committed suicide only a month later, in the exact same manner that Chris had. A tragic loss for their families, and for the world at large.
But the live performance is raw. Chester breaks down part way through. But the big difference is the second bridge. On the studio version, or the version you reacted too, the scream of "I DO!!!!" is low in the mix. Most people don't even notice it. But in the live version, Chester belts it, screaming at the top of his lungs, and the pain and anger and longing in his voice for his lost friend, shatters my heart every time I hear it. It's probably the most moving musical moment I've ever seen in all my years.

My first boy was born on the 21st of july which is the day after his anniversary but I'm from the UK and the time difference would of made his death on the 21st in the UK. He was even 8 days late which is my favourite number and the first number my son ever said was 8, he couldn't stop saying it! To anyone else out there who is struggling please reach out, it doesn't matter who you reach out to but please get the help you need! It was my "favourite" for the simple reason of "I haven't heard anything else yet" but I had a feeling it wouldn't remain my favourite once I'd heard the album - and I was right. The song that made me realise I'd be a lifelong fan of the band was With You, but there were several others I liked more than that first single as well.

Chester Bennington’s and Tim Bergling (Avicii)’s death affected me sm. The saddest part is, in the same year too, not even a year apart. They were both struggling sm. They were the only thing getting me through when I was 12 until now. My best friend committed suicide at 13 (I was still 12) and I was struggling majorly ever since.
The only reason I didn’t jump off a bridge when I ran away for 5 hours was because an Avicii song came on, specifically ‘Hey Brother’ and the one that came out after that was ‘Somewhere I Belong’ by Linkin Park.

I grew up listening to Chester and Linkin Park. I've been fortunate enough not to lose any friends or family to suicide. But I have lost both of my parents to cancer... and I can relate to the lyric about empty seats around the table... it does hit hard. And... there haven't been many famous people who I've cried/mourned the loss of... Robin Williams... Chester Bennington. Two souls who have left the world worse off with their departure. I tear up every time I hear this song. Absolutely beautiful... RIP Chester. We miss you brother.

The worst part about Chester's death is all the people that said they didn't know he was depressed. Bros songs were literally a cry for help. And no one paid attention except the fans but we weren't enough. But I have made a point in my.life to be there for anyone who is depressed. The world is hard and it finds new ways to put you down and then kick you even harder while you are down. Never feel like u don't matter. No matter what there is always at least one person that cares.

I'm just happy that this "taboo" around mental health/depression is now more open and much more negotiable then ever before. I've been through a lot in the past 15yrs. From having leukemia, losing my friends, relationship, work because of my disease, to being diagnosed with Graft Versus Host Disease and ending up in a wheelchair, living with pain 24/7. And honestly, it was hard but i was doing fine because my mom was always there for me. Yes, "was." She passed away 5yrs. ago after only 1yr. of retirement. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 4. And i was always asking myself, what was it all for? My mom being hurt because of my illness. She took care of me and left everything aside for that. Me and my mom, we enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas. Last year, i decided that it will be the last year i will be having a Christmas tree. It's just not the same anymore. I'm alone anyway now. I'm happy that my sister sometimes comes by. And i'm very lucky that she helps me out with my food. After my mom passed in October of 2018. A little bit more than a year. Covid came around and of course, in the summer of 2021, i was diagnosed with Covid-19. They induced me in to a coma, which i stayed in for about 2 weeks. While in coma, doctors saw that i had something on one of my hearts valve's. Which last year, they did an urgent open-heart surgery for.
Anyway, music has always been my drive to keep going. It's not easy. Every day is different. But i try. I love this song a lot.
I know my comment is a bit all over but my English isn't the best. Thanks for your reaction!

You are loved Lilly! This came out 10 years after my big brother took his life and the song had me pouring... again 2 years ago when a best friend for 30+ years took her life, yet I went almost immediately to this song. Possibly to "allow" myself to cry (macho "man" baggage). Missed you this year, Joey, and we'll miss you every year... that empty chair FUKING sucks!

I'm sure I'm not the only one but I listened to "the great ones" music and I just enjoyed it without really looking too deep into it. Once they started passing I finally realized I never really heard them. Going back through and really listening and understanding the lyrics I realized how helpful it could have been growing up. I've lost a lot but nothing more impactful than losing my mom when I was 8. That still hurts everyday and especially around the holidays. Hang in there.

I have a core memory of LP and listening and loving them for the first time. In 2007, I was 11 years old and I was doing a presentation of a collage of old WW1 photos near the end of my presentation and I used Shadow of the Day as my backtrack. While everyone thought it was good, my history teacher Mr. Wiggins had a more emotional reaction and I saw tears down his face. He was a fantastic mentor to me and opened my eyes to my love of learning history and he made it so fun and engaging. And to do that for a bunch of pre-teens, speaks volumes of his passion and his dedication to his students. I'm sure he may never see's this but still, thank you sir!
