(Coming back to this on May 14th 2022)
First of all, thank you all so much for your love. I haven't posted many videos I did, in fact, only two ever made it to TH-cam, but I'm glad this one did.
Looking back at it, this competition really was something. A script writer could not have done it better. Beyond just being the final chapter in the story of some of the greatest icons of our sport, mainly the titan that is Yana, be it Rita's, Yana's, Meli's, Ganna's or Son's stories (so fascinating especially because they all influence one another, there's only three medals!), none of them ended the way one would have expected them too, many not necessarily with the happy ending one wished for them, but all with greater life lessons, and the wisdom of gratefulness. Rise! That's the message of these Olympics, to look beyond the medal, at the happiness with your teammates, with your competitors, and (Yana did it maybe most beautifully) the freedom your work gives if you just give it a chance to sing. It wasn't just a competition, it was a whole Saga, a whole trilogy, with action-packed suspense moments, sweet opportunities of respite, gob-smacking battles, character arcs and the ever-important life lessons to close it off.
When I made the video, I really tried to tell their stories. I might have a theatricalising mind, but these Olympics had it all for me. First Meli's and Son's deception, but then Ganna who almost clandestinely, unnoticed, climbed on the podium! Rita, who got her chance, danced the performance of her life in that historic black feathered leo with the blood ribbon and got the Gold. And then of course Yana, who was crushed before our very eyes on that carpet, her world falling apart, and then floated through that last ribbon in white and pastels, her feet tapes taken off, a burdened soul finally at peace, accepting and looking beyond the Silver medal, finishing the event laughing with her teammate, rival and best friend, who, in the end, defeated her. What a competition indeed.
None of the gymnasts that entered these Olympics were the same when they flew back from Rio. And you cannot say that about any other competition. At the end of the day, the Olympics will always be different. No matter how experienced or how sure the girls are, the Olympics will shake everything up. This was true in Tokyo just now as well again!
I think the Rio Olympics were truly the culmination of a sort of Golden Age in our sport, that Kanaeva laid the foundation for. It was still exciting, the performances still mattered, everything had more depth. Nowadays, the main emotion in RG is annoyance at the unfairness and judging bias felt in the sport, and watching the competitions becomes very tiring - it's just an endless repetition of skills without any meaning whatsoever. Where are the magical skills under the twinkling lights of the Montpellier worlds in 2011? I miss the passion!
Furthermore, with the Ukraine crisis, the division between Russia and the rest of the world leaves the sport confused, uncertain, without direction, fresh winds of inspiration or improvement. Once upon a time, we hoped for Apparatus Finals at the Olympics, like in AG. Today, we cannot even fathom a normal international competition not stricken by politics and division, garnering the popularity and interest it used to draw. I fear for our sport, and its future at the Olympics. But while we wait for that future and its appearance, we might as well look back at these extraordinary battles we have seen fought with such grace on the carpets of Rio, London, Stuttgart and more. In the meantime, Слава Украини and may God bless us all!

    nice video, no question.
I am a fan of Rythmic Gymnastic and I followed this contest with great attention. In my opinion, this was anyway the strongest team that has ever participated in such Olympic games. I was also very impressed by the head-to-head race between Yana Kudryavtseva and Margarita Mamun. When Yana dropped the clubs on the last figure, she knew immediately that gold was over. That hurt. Months of training in vain within seconds. I am also very sad that we will probably never see the two of them active again. They both enjoy their new occupation as mothers :-) and may they remain best friends. 😢💖
