    My sister had a psychotic break, no history with drugs or alcohol, just out of nowhere, unlike many other people it wasn't temporary though, no medication has made much of a difference, the sister I grew up with is gone, she's a volatile, rude paranoid schizophrenic who believes we're all out to get her and has threatened me with a knife. It's been 5 years and I went through a legitimate grieving process as if she had died.

      Jesus, I am so sorry that happened to you and your family. When I was in highschool one of my friends did something similar, though I don't think she was diagnosed as schizophrenic. One day she was fine, the next, it was like the guy in this story. She just fell apart. She went unintelligible howling at the moon crazy for about a day or two, then fell into a coma. When she woke up, she was ... Evil. Threatened to do and actually did some pretty awful things and has been institutionalized for 20+ years. Her parents are devout Catholics and thinks her body is possessed by a demon and their real daughter is dead. I can almost understand. It's like she moved out and something else moved in.
      It was hard to lose my friend. I can only imagine what it was like to lose your sister.

      @@user-sleepy33 Wow, I didn't know meningitis could be a risk factor. In my family's case there probably are genetic risks though we're not sure, we know stories of relatives that showed symptoms but weren't diagnosed due to living in a remote area of Eastern Europe with little access to this type of health care.

      My mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia and I had to bear the brunt of her mood swings. The police had to get involved on many occasions and it got so bad, I became suicidal. As a result I cut off all contact with her. It's been 3 years and even now, I still have nightmares about her. I grieve for not having a mother figure and a father (he died years ago). I'm so sorry with what you've had to go through. Mental illness affects everyone.

      Ridiculous take. Of course his friend has a right to know what happened to him, even more so than Danny's family did if anything, for the simple reason that not only were they close friends for many years preceeding the incident, but also Danny could easily have killed his friend that night during his psychotic episode or whatever it was. Not to mention all the other people that Danny could have potentially harmed during his six month 'black-out'. No, there's all sorts of perfectly sensible and justifiable reasons why people like his friend had a perfect right to find out what the hell had happened to him!

    • @sonjasun6227

      Yes, from the beginning, where he says it's "most significant event of his entire life" uhh dude, it sounds like it all happened to your friend, not you. Then pressuring him to talk about what has probably been absolute horror, how he isnt the same old Danny, not smiling blah blah. Dude, that's called trauma, and you can't even respect your friend enough to understand him. To the point of suggesting he's faking it or hiding some horrible things he has done. Yuck.

    Story one....poor ol boy went thru a fugue state. Sometimes they remember the time lost and other they don't. Sometimes they remember on their own and then there's times like the similar story featured on the original Unsolved Mysteries when a dude saw himself on there. He had been missing over 20 years from the other side of the country. Totally explainable and understandable.

    • @GredelsRage
      @GredelsRage ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yeah, i think what op was seeing as his buddy remembering more than he was letting on was more Danny trying to wade through flashes of memory and piece together things for himself. Mental illness can already wreck havoc on the memory, delusional disorders, even when properly treated can create false memories. Not wanting to talk when you are trying to figure things out and you may be afraid of what you may have done makes sense to me. But I'm the type of guy that has to wrap my head around something before I'm willing to talk about it.

    In the story about the guys friend Danny, when he repeated the incoherent word Danny said when he was talking to police dispatcher, it sounded like he was trying to say, "wtf are you doing?" but the words were mixed up and not said fully. This story compares to some of David Paulidas' Missing 411 stories. Some people go missing and have no memory, when they show up again, and often far away from where they show up.There are other stories like this, something unknown is happening to these people. Some believe they're being abducted by aliens and then returned. They often dont feel good right before they vanish. Thx, love listening to your stories. ❤ Patty

The concept of genuine human interactions is completely lost on netizens, the concept that someone can have privacy, can have an "unheard of" reaction to trauma, that those boundaries are not about *YOU* is wild to many people.

    The first story, kind of sounds like a 411 story. Anyways, to answer OP's confusion as to why his friend or former friend won't say what happened, what he remembers. Maybe it was just so traumatic that he just doesn't want to remember. It's obvious the guy went through something, he was missing for half the year, who knows what really happened to him. He'll either tell someone in time or he won't, just need to let him do it on his own terms.

    Story one: my friend lost six months of his life and he was clearly traumatized by that knowledge but let me make it all about *me* and how it made *me* feel. Eesh.
    His "return" didn't end the friendship, it's because his "friend" prioritized his own demand for answers and lack of respect for his friend's privacy.

      A little harsh... put yourself in the friends shoes, suddenly he loses his mind, disappears, returns as shadow of his former himself and refuses to acknowledge anything at all. They were good friends, naturally the guy is confused and needing answers or some sort of closure after worrying and thinking the worst for half a year. It's not self-centered, he is just attempting to make sense and accept the loss of his good friend. He is a victim in this as well.

    • @chopsandtoots
      @chopsandtoots ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@ericbumbles4145it's a pointless thing to even say that given we wouldn't know exactly how we'd act in situations like that unless we're in one, but I've had a lot of friendships come and go with no closure.
      If my friend didn't want to talk about something that was clearly bothering them and they really didn't want to talk about it, I wouldn't overstep my boundaries. My need for closure is less important than my friend's wellbeing. Being a victim doesn't mean you can behave however you want without consequence, and if it was weighing on his mind that heavily, he should have gone to a therapist. There have been documented cases of people going missing with zero memory, and continually pressing and pushing his friend for answers when he most likely didn't have any only caused him distress.

    Danny sounds like he had a psychotic episode. They can come from nowhere and totally change a person. I definitely understand the friend wanting closure (after all it was a traumatizing experience), but the priority should be getting Danny help. Instead of pushing him to try and explain what happened, they should support him where he is now and gently encourage him to see a mental health professional. Maybe Danny will spill a big story to a professional, but never his friend. It shouldn’t really matter.

    Man that first story is unlike anything I've ever heard. And I must say as a gut feeling and just my knowledge of mental health I doubt seriously he doesn't remember anything. I've never heard of someone having amnesia for 6 months while also being alone and not using their credit card. H3 HAS to remember at least bits and pieces...especially with zero brain trauma. Idk but it just doesn't sound right. I mean if he eventually walked out of the woods someone would have eventually stumbled upon him. And for him to have taken care of himself with showers and brushing his teeth, this tells me he was in society with some capacity therefore someone HAD to have seen him and interacted with him. That would make them a witness and even with just a basic, "I saw him coming out of a convenience store" comment even that small detail would tell us alot.
    Idk, there are just so many possibilities of what he COULD have done in a 6 month period that it's impossible to even weave a narrative together that isn't all based on speculation.
    He could have done something horrible since he was very violent initially, or he could have had something very bad happen to him. Either way it would explain why he doesn't wanna talk about it at all IF he does have some memories of what happened.
    But wow....crazy story.
    Literally INSANE

      There are actually a few cases similar to his. There’s a popular Missing 411 case about a guy who went hiking in the woods and disappeared for nearly a year. He was presumed dead, but he showed up one day at his parent’s house completely fine. He looked to be in decent health, but he couldn’t remember that period of time at all. Psychologists call it a fugue state.
