In 1968, the Ford auto factory in Dagenham was one of the largest single private employers in the United Kingdom. Dissatisfied, the women, represented by the shop steward and Rita O'Grady, work with union rep Albert Passingham for a better deal. However, Rita learns that there is a larger issue in this dispute considering that women are paid an appalling fraction of the men's wages for the same work across the board on the sole basis of their sex. @@Kneedragon1962lol glad we have an understanding. what I appreciate about atheism is at least one hypothetical imposition: if someone is in need of help, and there is no deity, what will you do? some folks believe that they need a deity to know morality, and it shows. atheists are world accepting and have contributed many good things to the world.
@@kurthill9070 ~ Morning. Still sorting through this one. Some folks do feel the need to invoke a deity when the subject of morality comes up. [sigh] Yeah, some do. Some can't accept there's any reason for existence at all without a deity. I don't know if there is a deity or not. I can see one argument which is quazi-scientific, which demands the attention and comprehension (at least partly) of some kind of sentient being, for 'reality' to even exist. I'm not sure that's right, but I'm not sure it's wrong either. But the concept that morality can't exist without religion, that's just dumb. Do they say we have no conscience or sense of right and wrong without God and Koom-bah-Ya? Have Atheists contributed? Well, I do love listening to Richard Dawkins. I don't always agree completely with him, but I do enjoy listening. Rather the same as I don't always agree completely with Bernie Sanders or Robert Reich ~ but I do enjoy listening to them. I'm trying for a TLDR way to say this. There is a central question to reality and life and character and personality, which everybody has to answer constantly, and that's the balance between selfish and generous, between self interest and the good of the group. The ideal, is a reasonable compromise. [aside: I do take a very similar view of political balance ~ Left Wing v Right Wing. My personal sympathy is slightly left of centre, but the 'Right' answer is the one that works with 'this' group of people. The ideal is some fairly moderate centre position that all sane people can occupy and live in.] Somebody who is too selfish and too self centred, is not good, but somebody who is too generous and too giving, they get presented as some kind of shining example, but in real life, such people are weirdos. Now we present those people as a shining example, but they're odd. Mother Terrisa is one example. Leonard Cheshire is another. Point is, all morality is a bit like this. We want to encourage people to behave in ways that are good for the group, the society, the race, the species. We bring up our children, teach them about decency and honour. We house-train our pets, so they don't dump in the hallway. The pets know all too well about being naughty or being nice. You don't have to sit on Santa's knee to know about it, and you don't need to Know Jesus to know about it. It's conditioning, and we have these moral concepts that tie it all together in almost sensible & logical ways. None of that requires fairies at the bottom of the garden or grand holy spooks in the sky. It doesn't mean there aren't any ~ it means they're optional.
No mention of Mao Zedong? Also is it surprising that almost every single person on this list was the subject of an episode of Epic Rap Battles of History?
“Netanyahu facing criticism for failing to anticipate and prevent the Israel-Hamas War.” Um Watchmojo it’s the not war he failed to anticipate that angered Israelis it was the failure to anticipate the Oct 7th massacre that started the war. @@kfirevenRubbish. Most of the Jewish people there are of Eastern European heritage. They were last there in biblical times and were given Palestine by the British.
I agree with all that's said in the video. But I find it curious that people despised Napoleon for the incessant wars, and the US continues financing and participating in senseless wars. They despise Che Guevara for the execution of people and yet have death rows and murder millions every year. They point out the fact that Karl Marx's ideology inspired totalitarianism, and yet all the countries they mentioned were deliberately influenced by US military forces, dooming them to fail as a socialist state and in some cases becoming so anti-capitalist that they indeed became the worst places to live. I do not defend any deeds that those men did. But I find it important to look at the other side of things and see how the US plays a big part in most of the current world's problems nowadays.
Many of these personalities are classified only as "controversial" because they are from the left; if they were from the right they would have been branded as ruthless killers.
Lenin's body is actually preserved in a mausoleum in Moscow. It's embalmed like a mummy, but without the wrap. I went there a couple years ago, really weird to see
The fact you blame Castro for Cubas economic problems and not the US blockade is ludicrous. He also wanted nukes because the US kept trying to kill him. Your bias is so clear it's sad
I couldn't have put it better myself. Castro greatly improved the living conditions of Cubans, which is a hard thing to do when you consider the embargo.
@@Skygrey2943 oh really why are they driving around in cars made in the 1950s? And why are Cubans still defecting to the United States? Now, having said that I believe the US should establish normal relations with Cuba. It is stupid not to. Cuba will never be brought to the 21st-century without the help of the United States. Communism is no threat to the United States. Fascism is. Oh, and by the way, communism and fascism is exactly the same thing. They are both enforced by dictatorship. And that is without exception in world history. No country in the history of the world has done communism the way Karl Marx laid it out in his manifesto.
@@Basackwrds oh really do you think we should empathize with people like Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Benito Mussolini. Those people don’t deserve empathy. Because they didn’t have it. They didn’t have a clue to what that word even meant.
To quote Yakko, Wakko and Dot about Christopher Columbus "How did this guy get his own holiday?". Okay, those may not have been the exact words but you get the idea.
Henry Ford and Martin Luther where anti semite? Look at the time periods, when these people lived. Who wasnt an anti semite at this time? As sad as it is: before 1945 propably everyone was an antisemite in one way or another. Look at Walt Disney and nearly everyone else in the world industry, who hadnt jewish roots them selfes. Antisamitism was normal at this point of time untill we germans sadly showed the world how we dealt with it. If we wouldnt have done oure holocaust (of wich Im NOT proud of, I might ad) the jews would propably never ve gotten their own state and we would still hate the jews as we did before in all oft the wesetern (and the muslimic) cultures. In fact the jewish AND the islamic culture are BOTH Semitic cultures. so if you call one an antisemite, he doesnt only hate jews, but muslims as well, which is pretty ironic considering the conflicts between Israel and the arabic nations of the world.
I like how they use china and north Korea as bad examples, but don't use any of the Scandinavian countries or other countries in Europe, as good examples of socialism.
I don’t care about the first 19. Number one is undoubtedly Jesus Christ. No one has been more controversial, impactful and kind in all our history and writings Edit- glory to Christ the lamb that was sacrificed for the sins of the world.
@@Nola5427 I ask that you just do a quick google search of the historical evidence that he lived and died the way it’s recorded in the Bible. There’s more evidence of Christ than other historical figures like Caesar and Alexander the Great. Many have tried to prove he never existed or that his disciples lied. But they either failed and agreed he did exist or some actually came to the .faith of his resurrection
I kind of feel the "Expensive gear, but can't play" sentiment. One of my bands played a local gig at a major venue in our area. The opening band looked impressive considering they had premium gear such as an EBMM JP15 guitar, one of the high-end Warwick 5 string basses, what looked to be a mapex Saturn drum kit, Axe FX II Deluxe going DI, and Gallien-Krueger bass amp... The band just played generic breakdowns the entire set and was super sloppy when they weren't playing open chord chugged riffs. Turns out they were a bunch of Weekend Warrior tweens who came from money. More than likely didn't work hard to get their gear, decided that if Asking Alexandria could do it then so could they, and it was the last I'd heard of them as a band. I hope they stuck with playing music and progressed, but man that rubs me the wrong way for some reason.
Really? Hillary Clinton made the cut? 😂😂 So cult-leaders, historic European monarchs, African dictators, Industrial-era millionaires, etc...didn't make the cut?
Toronto did a pretty good job with the Panamerican games, which is significantly smaller. But they were under budget and had a significant legacy. I live in a city 4 hours away and we got a grant to start a wheelchair basketball program, because of the games. It costs $2-3,000 for a basic chair. A bunch of infrastructure projects were already needed, and in the works, and the games just supercharged the timeline. They utilized the Jays stadium for opening and closing and held track at a local university. They brought in temporary stands to extend capacity. The long term low income housing was a HUGE hit. Part of the athlete housing became part of a local college, another part a university, another part lower income (assisted) housing (IE national team athletes training at nearby facilities can access that housing for cheap, if they continue to meet training targets). Listen, it wasn’t perfect. But it was an example of how games can be done. With one being multiple athlete housing areas to spread out the sports to areas that were appropriate to host.
One of the main reasons for all this controversy is that we grow up with, and have trouble letting go of, the naive belief, nurtured by Disney films and such, that great leaders must always be idealistic and "nice." But it is not so. There never was a famous figure in history who did not cause harm or inconvenience of some sort, or who was not ruthless in exercising power when it was necessary to do so. Or, as Lenin himself supposedly (but probably did not actually) put it: "You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs."
Pretty cool. Two big gripes: Trump in the same breath/list as Jesus -- and the Insurance ad where the chick says she "LOVES her current insurance company, but..". Ay yi yi yi yi for freakin' yi
What "scholars" universally acknowledge that Jesus was a real person? The "Christian scholars"? Jesus likely never existed and was more than likely an amalgamation of messiah-type figures of the time.
@@reeceargo624 Then explain how the Roman empire, a group of people historians and scholars agree to as "Paperwork Nazis" had no record of Jesus or his execution? Also, explain how the bible, a book of immoral fictional tales, seems to be the only "record" of Jesus. Can I conclude, based on this trail of evidence, that Tom Riddle existed, recorded in Harry Potter? Same level of historicity.

The ideal is some fairly moderate centre position that all sane people can occupy and live in.]
Somebody who is too selfish and too self centred, is not good, but somebody who is too generous and too giving, they get presented as some kind of shining example, but in real life, such people are weirdos.
What about Elon Musk?
what has done that was controversial

No mention of Mao Zedong?
Also is it surprising that almost every single person on this list was the subject of an episode of Epic Rap Battles of History?
Putin? Nixon? This is about the history of the world, right? Rome alone had 20 people more significantly controversial than half of this list.
“Netanyahu facing criticism for failing to anticipate and prevent the Israel-Hamas War.” Um Watchmojo it’s the not war he failed to anticipate that angered Israelis it was the failure to anticipate the Oct 7th massacre that started the war. Minor nitpick but don’t underestimate the power of word choice. Otherwise Netanyahu is absolutely controversial and I’m not a fan of him or his government.
Agreed. And can’t they just give that country back to its natives?? 🤷♂️

Marx didn't know what Lenin and Stalin and those who came after them would do with his system!
Being pro Marx and anti Lenin is contradictory.
You didn't mention Muhammad.
Uh spoilers!
They like being alive
of course they didn't mention him because they don't want to be seen as Islamophobic considering the fact he was Pedophile and warlord
Ummm…
He is so controversial that putting him in a “most controversial” ranking would be too controversial.
To the victors the dictation of history. Castro was not the best, but he didn't destroy the Cuban economy, the US embargo on Cuba did that
Wrong, Castro did destroy the Cuban economy, you can't blane the entire thing on the embargo
@robertocazzaniga5548 how do we know that? I'm asking genuinely. What did he do?
@@BeefR_357 he did destroy the economy. He nationalized almost everything and you can't even go to the toilet without the governament's permission
Many of these personalities are classified only as "controversial" because they are from the left; if they were from the right they would have been branded as ruthless killers.
Lenin's body is actually preserved in a mausoleum in Moscow. It's embalmed like a mummy, but without the wrap. I went there a couple years ago, really weird to see
Why wasn't Mohammed on the list?? Islam has been just as, if not more, controversial as Christianity. At least Jesus didn't marry a 9 year old.
The fact you blame Castro for Cubas economic problems and not the US blockade is ludicrous. He also wanted nukes because the US kept trying to kill him. Your bias is so clear it's sad
*thank you*
I couldn't have put it better myself. Castro greatly improved the living conditions of Cubans, which is a hard thing to do when you consider the embargo.
Well put. We should not be afraid of our own history but also be able to empathize with descision makers as well as victims

Because of Nixon my parents were able to immigrate to the US and I was born and raised in the US. However Watergate was unforgivable.

Never thought i would hear Batman narrating about Thomas Edison
Pretty funny that Ford and Marx are right next to each other on this list, given their rap battle.
I like how they use china and north Korea as bad examples, but don't use any of the Scandinavian countries or other countries in Europe, as good examples of socialism.
This is a interesting list 👏 good job WatchMojo
If you include Jesus , then you have to add other major religious figures. Mohamed and the Buddha come to mind.
Get Jesus off of there. As a former Catholic- put on all the Popes! Has nothing to do religion, it’s become a complete man made office and title.
These are the kinds of lists that, if I comment on an entry, I'll get banned.

We need a 2020 version of what “controversial people” are 😂 that would be so funny but interesting
Anyone that has a different opinon than most ppl, ppl are to sensitive these days and they are looking for things to get offended at!
I completely disagree with #1 Jesus is a great person not controversial so there should be someone else like Mao

"We'll always be a villain in someone else's story"
Jesus Christ and Martin Luther are the foundation of my religious background and unyielding faith
I also would place Porfirio Díaz in the list, president of Mexico from 1876 to 1911, and Genghis Khan.
I didn’t know of Oliver Cromwell, Maximilien Robespierre, Benjamin Netanyahu, Niccolo Machiavelli and Silvio Berlusconi.
Your forgot Muhammad
putting christ on here while ignoring Muhammed is a blatant case of hypocrisy.
Tbf any inventor has come with their fair share of controversy. Edison was not the only one to have controversy
