    I tried detoxing myself at home years ago. Had violent shaking of the body and an extremely fast heart. I ran to the doctors and had diazepam to slow me back down. A few years later, I was scared to do my second detox by myself in case that happened again. I just kept drinking and drinking. At times, I tried to reduce what I was having gradually. The thought of those withdrawal symptoms terrified me. A hospital kept me for 4 days and I very nearly went into a fit or a seizure. I coughed up blood frequently. They stopped it in time. I'll always be grateful. Some think treating an addict is a waste of time. It is if the addict isn't serious. A short stay in a hospital bed saved my life though. I was determined to make a better life for myself. I have close to 21 months sobriety with one major relapse on the 12th month.
    So 12 months and 9 months.

      Fit recovery supplements massively reduced my alcohol consumption. I wonder if would help ur next detox if did the supplements for a week or 2 first.

    This is my 4th detox after relapsing in Feb. Wasn't the worse . Ordered in strong vitamin b compound, which has been a god send after 3 days of vomiting and the fear. Eating lots of cucumber, beetroot and cheese salads with vinegar or lemon as a dressing, with seeded bread which contains thiamine. Chicken, fish or fresh soups for supper. Everyday sober is a great day. Keep going everyone. T-

    6 days so far no alcohol, I would say 5 years I believe I damaged my body horribly with that crap. Just about lost my whole family over it. I will not go back to it again it's not worth loosing my little boy

    I've been a binge drinker for near on 20 odd years. Work lifestyle. So during this lockdown period I just decided to stop. I know my body has taken a hammering and I'm now 44 years old. I've just decide to stop drinking and want something different in my life I'm bored of drinking it does me no good. 3 weeks in and looking not to drink again. Will be a new journey and I'm excited to be different from most people.

    I recently relapsed drank for a month straight. I was 3 years sober. The pain of withdrawal reminds me again that alcholo is pure evil. I cant sleep, anxiety is off the roof, felt like insects crawling through my body, nightmares time i try to sleep, hearing voices. Its like getting trapped in your own personal hell.

      I quit drinking 11 days ago. Around the 3rd day when I went to sleep I woke up to use the bathroom and saw this lady dressed in all pink in my room. She also had a pink hoodie over her head. I freaked out and tried to grab her and realized it was a hallucination. Crazy! Wtf was the all pink outfit all about??

      @@jackedkerouac4414 That lady was maybe a spirit... Alcohol withdrawals mess up the chakras and sometimes what we see is not just hallucinations. Any updates ?

      No more "visitations" but tbh I'm not sober...and certainly not well. BUT this is just a long relapse. I'll continue the fight to stay sober

      I know the feeling, today is my second full day sober. At this moment I feel fine but I can’t sleep because everytime I close my eyes I keep seeing crazy looking creatures or gross things that aren’t on my mind. I’ve been through this many times so I’m prepared for what happens on each day of my usual 2-4 days of this pain. The scary part is yet to come, if I’m deprived of sleep tonight I will begin to see things. I’m already hearing things others don’t. I hope this video helps us both.

    I started drinking 13 years ago. I made it to 6 months sober but made the worst decision of celebrating my sobriety with a drink. I drank for 7 days but I saw myself drowning inside the cup again so quickly. 2 days ago I decided I will never pick up another glass of that stuff, unfortunately this withdrawal has been eating me alive “as usual.”
    I KNOW IT WILL PASS.

    its good advice, but the main important thing is that you just eat something, if all you can get down is comfort food then so be it.

    I went into the hospital to detox a grand total of three times this year from alcohol. Yeah, it took the third time and a chemical dependency program for it to really sink in that I needed help. I've been an alcoholic for many years but it escalated to almost a gallon of vodka in a 24 hour duration when an immediate family member was murdered a year ago (and another one injured in the process). I finally realized that drinking wasn't going to change what happened to my brothers. I have been sober for close to a month now. You probably have heard of post acute withdrawal. While I do feel so much better physically, I have been experiencing the emotional side effects of my hardcore drinking. I have made a promise to myself to never do this again, but I still know not to overwhelm myself and to take it one day at a time. I appreciate the informative video. I have dropped fifteen pounds in less than a month from not drinking and partially because I think drinking has affected my appetite. I am never hungry. The doctors at the hospital said this was normal. It could have induced inflammation of the stomach lining. Everything about your video sounds quite doable. I love vegetables (moreso than fruit) and prefer chicken and turkey over any other kind of meat. I also love sushi and that is a healthy (albeit expensive) food. The only thing I cannot give up is some condiments, namely ketchup. And mayo. I am a condiment-oriented person. :P But other than that, I really do like a lot of relatively healthy stuff.

      You can make ketchup and mayo at home in about 3 minutes without sugar and it tastes better because it is fresh,made on the spot.

      @@fredbahena3933 melatonin helps or a benzo but if you have a history of DTs or seizures I suggest you go to a hospital and get phenobarbital or something to help you get over the first 2 to 3 days.

    I have had a couple seizures... I'm still struggling. its horrible... sweating shaking anxiety and it really feels like your dying... I commend all u that r staying sober...I been an alcoholic since 16 yrs of age. That's 22 yrs. stay sober. It lead me to living on the street for a couple yrs. it is an insidious disease.

      hi Daniel Gray, I hear you. Went through something similar myself; being a woman and sleeping in bank machines was horrifying. I watched a film called a Streetcat Named Bob on Netflix based on a true story of a guy who got off heroin -- alcohol was just as bad for me -- I found it incredibly inspiring. I am also still struggling, also seizures yes unless you go through it, it really is impossible to imagine. I joined an NA group because I felt comfortable there; I was really really serious about getting better; still am but I had a relapse and it was indescribable; not only did I feel like I was having a heart attack but I couldn't even get drunk; my tolerance was way up there. If it is helpful at all, in the period when I was doing the best, and am doing ok for now one day at a time, I did go, carefully vegan; it helped me because my blood sugar levels stabilized -- that was the main thing for me, and that helped with anxiety attacks. It is a long road but I know it is worth it. All the best!!!!

    I did not eat for day 1 and 2. This sucked, and made it worse. I started eating my version of detox food and shat more out than in a month. Teas, light foods, coconut water, oatmeal w/ flax. Apple, bananers, brown rice, miso and vegetable broth. Salads.
    Day 5 and going back to work.
    I feel good, grounded, even though
    Im not sleeping well. I've got through the worst.

    One tip I like is to squeeze some fresh lemon into the water. You can read about the many benefits of this via a quick search online, but from what I have read, lemons are packed with vitamin C, are an excellent source of potassium, aid digestion, and helps to cleanses your system. I believe it is the citric acid that enhances your bodies enzyme function and stimulates the liver. All sounds good to me :-)

    as an alcoholic for 14 years.. i lose my appetite to eat anything if ive been drinking for 2 weeks or 3 days straight. ive already killed my pancreas and now im a diabetic. what helps most is , living on liquid diet for 4 to 5 days. your appetite will return as long as youre not drinking during that time. and holy shit, you will eat ALOT after that and it feels good. meat, fruits, veggies. but there's the risk of your body's protein and carbs going really low since you're not eating during those 4 to 5 days. that's the dangerous part. I've been hospitalized a few times cuz of that. take energy drinks with high sugar levels till you get your energy back. after that you'll be fine. you will eat like you've never eaten before.

      Those energy drinks have lots of B vitamins too. B vitamins are very important for alcoholics.

    A started eating loads of detox fruits and other things but at the moment every day a have an apple and banana some beetroot and spinach with meals tomatoes and blueberries and raspberries on my breakfast. The most important thing to have is a lemon cut in half and squeezed into a glass of water first thing in the morning every day this does wonders for flushing out your system . Other good things are avocado and cucumbers are full of nutrients.

    Thank you Kevin for another great video. I've tried to stop drinking several times, but I enjoy it so much. I do eat good food and no processed foods. Veg. And fruit. Drink plenty of water and go to the gym. After 2 or 3 days I miss my wine and buy a low alc. Wine. I gradually go back to the 13.5% alc wine. Drink a bottle and start the cycle again. I believe in a good diet but didn't know eggs were bad. Why are they bad? I love them and thought they were a good source of protein. Thanks Kevin.

      Eggs aren’t bad at all. They’re a fantastic food source of many nutrients. One of the things they contain is choline which is very beneficial for the liver.

    I've been eating huge salads (spinach, lettuce, beetroot, peppers, onions, garlic, homemade coleslaw with cabbage, onions, carrots using only a little light mayo), put dried herbs on it for taste. Berries are the best fruits, low in sugar compared to tropical fruits and have loads more nutrients. Plenty of water. The body will not believe its luck!

      Honestly what help me was a sober house I spent 4 month away from everyone but when I decided to leave I only lasted another 2 months. The person I became again after coming from being sober minded for 6 months. I can’t see myself like that anymore. Hope everything works out for you.

    Thank you for this, it's very important. I'm currently going through alcohol reduction withdrawals. & I'm making thiamin-high veg soups, & turkey but also I am craving crisps?! BUT I am also dealing with anorexia recovery, & my stomach cramps need low veg, high fat, low volume foods. So I'm in a muddle! 🤔

    I dont drink for weeks at a time but when I do relapse I can drink anything I can for 5 days straight. When stop drinking because I get horrible withdrawl symptoms, shaking, body aches,and feel like my heart will explode i drink nothing but water and coconut water for 2 days, and valium to help with the shakes, but when my apetite opens, I cant eat fatty foods. but I get cravings like avocado and tuna, noodle soup with lots of lemon and cayenne pepper, on my third day my body needs sugar that the alcohol has given me and I have stopped, so I eat sugary foods, and some pasta and then back to something light. I do have vegetable and fruit organic juices, and yes I do drink red bull to get my foggy brain working after the third day of a horrible detox, so everyone is different. I just do what my body asks when I am detoxing. Always follow your body cravings for food, your body knows best. There is no way I can stomach a salad on my second day of detox. I also take lots of vitamins and i take organic Royal Bee Jelly. So everyone is different.

    surely it can come accross as asking way too much , to also cut out dairy WHILST eliminating alcohol. BUT , dairy, eggs, can keep (lingering) diseases also contributed by the alcohol (and often smoking) in tact, because by elmination of also these foods you help your body recover 10 times faster. I personally don't eat dairy and eggs because i want animals to suffer a zero amount. But, I had been drinking for more than 20 years, and stopped 2 months ago, the detox symptoms are scary to say the least. Hypertension, dizzyness, shortness of breath, you name it. But ...already the ' gifts' my body are giving me are more than enough evidence that i want to keep going. Clarity and peace of mind, superdeep sleeps, radiant skin and memory coming back (short and long term)! Lastly, this supplement is vital especially when you also are vegan and on a alcohol detox : N-acetyl-L-cysteine. This amino acid helps speed the recovery done by any (hard) drug!

    Bitter gourd/bitter melon is great to eat when detoxing. I eat mine raw for breakfast. After two months my fatty liver cleared up and my cholesterol went from 8.45 to 5.45 so very happy about that. I admit I still drink beers. Hopefully I will stop one day.

    i have been sober for 2 months and yesterday i consumed this desert in New Year's Eve and today i have this strange headache i feel same way i felt in hangover so i went to the shop i bought it and i ask if the put anything alcoholic and they told me the put rum .Did i ruined it all? I didn't know there was alcohol in there ....is that a relapse or not?Is it a slip up ? because i don't know i don't want to even think that i ruined my sobriety for a stupid accident I threw the rest of that desert in the thrash .

    I'm sugar sensitive so I probably won't be eating alot of fruit. I also often eat nothing all day and a fist size amount of meat with veggies. Is not eating eggs because of toxins in factory farmed eggs?

    I've been drinking 15 beers A-day for one and a 1/2 years. I'm Malnourished and Very fatigued. 1st off I need Something to help me with the empty time while watching a movie or whatever to help the cravings go.

      Locked myself in a dark room with a TV, Gatorade and noticed seltzer water helps me not crave it as badly
      Been about 42 hours now and the sweating is finally going away and shaking is very mild now

    Hi guys been drinking heavily for 15 years on and off... have managed to quit a few times for a 6 to 12 months on and off but never managed to stay off permanently, really worried that the damaged I've caused is irreversible.
    Just wanted some advice please, how would i find out or know if the extent of damage cause is irreversible? Are there certain tests or ways of finding this out?
    Also can the body make a %💯 or close to a full recovery from years of abuse?

      I'm chronic pancreatitis patient. I know it's irreversible. But still I keep drinking on and off. Really alcohol sucks. Hope quit drinking and focus on ur life. Stay fit and stay healthy!!

    i got off heroin started smoking weed got paranoid and ended up on suboxone worse mistake ive ever made and now 4 days into detox and its horrific... the anxiety restless legs and insomnia is absolutely terrible considering i did it with nothing in prison before i keep thinking ive got this... praying for a safe and quick detox or a fast death

    While dieting and drinking heavily I was losing 2.5 pounds a week. I have been off of alcohol and dieting for eight days and I gained half a pound. Any explanation for this?

      Your body prioritizes alcohol to metabolize. I assume you were drinking liquor. I had trouble keeping up a healthy weight when I was heavy drinking vodka.

      Most drinkers are dehydrated. Your body is thirsty, so holding on to fluid. Drink sports drinks that contain electrolytes to normalize fluid in the body. Five pounds is not a crisis, just a moderate fluctuation.

      Every day I wake up sober and take my dog for a walk and feed my cat I cannot believe it; I have been trying to connect with people who need medical detox; that involves valium and probably detox program and or rehab. It took me months to find a place because my gp would not prescribe anything in the diazepam family -- antidepressants were useless. I was persistent because I was desperate; I needed a week and it made it possible to avoid the seizures I had before. I am so terrified that if I pick up a drink again the whole nightmare will begin again and I wont be there for the people I love and my little guys. Dont give up!!!!!!

    Hey Kevin I'm trying to quit drinking cause recently I've started braking out with white spots all over my body. I went to the doctors recently and they told me it looks like vitiligo, so now I have to make an appointment for the skin dermatologist. I didn't really drink during the week but on weekends I'll drink so much that it will make up for the week I didn't drink. Ive been drinking for about 5 years im 21 years old now, Started really drinking my junior year in high school and I'm thinking from all the years of me heavy drinking and not taking care of my body all these years the toxins are starting to affect my body, I did research on alcohol and they said it affects the skin! So I was guessing it could of triggered it. So I want to hear your input cause you know about alcohol.

    In early recovery, the main reason you should avoid sugar and especially fructose (HFCS) is that they contribute to a fatty liver, a problem you are guaranteed to already have after heavy drinking. Also, stay away from paracetamol (acetoaminophen) and other medication that stress your liver.

      There's a lot of evidence that processed foods in general do a lot of damage to the body, in particular fructose. But, this does not include fructose in it's natural state, ie in fruit. Eat plenty of fruit.

      @@HabitsV2 There is nothing magical about 'natural' sugar that makes it harmless. Your liver does not care whether the fructose molecules it has to process come from fresh fruit or a can of soda. If you eat plenty of sweet fruit, you are eating plenty of sugar, and that is a terrible thing to do, especially if you want to heal a fatty liver.
      Of course, different kinds of fruit have different levels of sugar. If you really want to eat plenty of fruit despite the lack of evidence that it is good for you, at least try to choose those lower in sugar.
      For example, 200 grams of 'healthy' orange juice has 20 grams of sugar, half of which is fructose. What a disaster.

    They say you should try and avoid foods cooked in alcohol if you're a recovering alcoholic. I have to be honest though, the thought of a bolognese cooked with a dash of red wine wouldn't tempt me. I'd be far more interested in the meat, the tomato and other flavours. I think the alcohol mostly evaporates and the content is almost zero. The only thing that would remotely tempt me is smelling a red wine. I'm happy I'm in a good place now.

    First day sober after my relapse. After been sober for 3 months, I thought I could just drink a bit during this summer. Got back I should have been fully focused on reading up to a exam I skipped before summer because I was on the bootle. The day have been completely terrible just laying in bed, so dead tired but not able to sleep. I have to make it this time or I will not pass my education and don't get my drivers license. I really don't want to get any of the terrible diseases alcohol can lead to. The last sober time, I had so many improvements in my life and things was looking good, why do I want to waste that?

      I believe especially so if your drink of choice was beer or wine, the carbohydrates are what your body becomes used to, and you will start to crave them in liquid form.

      Yes. Alcohol metabolizes as sugar. You quit drinking, the body craves sugar calories. Eat some dark chocolate.

      Yes it really does because all alcohol is sugar once metabolized. I indulge in sweets whenever I try to quit because I'd rather be fat and happy instead of skinny and miserable. But fruits help too

      Yes, it depends on who you're reading or listening to, to be honest... I used to be vegan, so my views were based around that. I do eat eggs now. Unfortunately, I have to change my mind n some things. It is what it is :)
