Pixar tackled the concepts of societal pressure on men, mid-life crises, domestic turbulence, ethics vs morals, toxic fandoms, addiction to glory, terrorism, capitalization of terrorism, and sins of the father all wrapped inside a fun action film children can enjoy. If anything, the incredibles is massively underrated.

Yeah Pixar does do that. Then there are moments the movie is deliberately dumb as bricks and all the characters go eeeeeeuuuuaaahhhhh how did we not know this was going to happen.
I find it's a weird paradox of a film that is over-rated and underrated and the same time and honestly kind of deserves it.

I mean, the plot of Incredibles 1 and 2 are very similar in that there is a character who the protagonists think is a good person turns out to be a supervillian utilising technology instead of powers, who also dislikes supers. They also both have the 'we're a superfamily, we've got to work together and do the thing as a family to succeed'. But there are still differences though. And I did enjoy both movies.
honestly thought the second villain had a better rationale. She wasn't as memorable as syndrome, but she made a point that normal humans have a unhealthy Para social relationship with supers that risk them getting kiilled by either their absence or negligence. While syndrome was like "i want to be the king weapons dealer by eliminating the competition and giving people the kind of weapons that don't work as well while i soak everyones praise as a hero"

The Incredibles is a cinematic masterpiece and I could write several essays on it, and I hate writing essays.
As a Brad Bird film it was made for adults first, then trimmed down to make it for the younger audience.
What makes the Incredibles great is the mature subject matter you realize later on with Bob's midlife crisis, the supers in hiding, then the side of a great action comedy.

The only thing I can say is I can't believe there are people in the world who actually hate Incredibles 1 and love Megamind.
Megamind was about a supervillian who loved the dance more than the aftermath, and an entitled undeserving 'nice guy' getting a lucky break and running away with it to become a villain. supervillain is actually a nice guy, just loved the dance of good vs evil.
Incredibles is about a man who's given a chance to relive his glory days, and the RIGHTFULLY rejected self-entitled kid sidekick who grew up to resent his hero for keeping him safe, and to 'get back' at him, created a company whose goal was to mass produce gadgets that played with super powers, built a robot meant to destroy actual superheroes, and cause a small calamity to be thwarted by it's creator to gain the favor of the public masses. has great messages about 'the greater good' and bobs mini arc of believing his family was dead and not wanting to go through that grief again is amazing.
both are amazing movies, i2 wasn't as good as the original, but it was still very good.
Taka called it a year ago... then again, I always viewed Megamind as a standalone movie, it never needed a sequel (Though Button of Doom was a surprising exception, still well done, a short was the perfect way to go)

Incredibles 1 is an excellent movie. Highly suggest CinemaWins' video on the movie, excellent breakdown of how great it just is. Same with his video on Megamind.
Incredibles 2 wasn't as good as the first movie, but was still a good, fun movie to watch. I wouldn't recommend it to people who like cinema, but I would recommend it to kids.
Also, the general idea behind Megamind and Incredibles is substantially different. Incredibles has familial themes, while Megamind is asking, "What makes a hero a hero and a villain a villain?" where Megamind grew up in a situation where he was led to become a bad guy, while Tighten was an internet "nice guy" who thought that his actions justified his relationship.

It would have made way more sense for it to focus more on the kids being a world that is opening up to supers being a thing again and having them develop their powers and tactics. Plus...some kind of positive message family message.
Instead they just did the first movie, but now it's focused on Helen instead of Bob and the villain is boring.

I mean, she's not entirely wrong on that point. Yeah, they have some major similarities (the one Taka brings up being the blatant one), but there are some differences as well, the most obvious being that the protagonist of Megamind is a reformed villain protagonist, and the protagonists of the Incredibles are a family of heroes. Unless you count Minion, there's nothing in the way of family dynamics in Megamind.

Incredibles 1 was like a 1998 Acura Integra Type R, Incredibles 2 is the 2023 Acura Integra.

Y'know, even after all this time, the one thing that Incredibles 2 improved over the original were the action setpieces. The Dash & Violet guard fight scenes on Syndrome's island were the best ones, and they were way too short. Meanwhile the first fight with the robot and Mr Incredible was way too slapstick to be cool and the city fight looked too bland to be interesting, and those were the only other scenes that took longer than a minute tops.
Incredibles 2, on the other hand? I can name 10 notable action scenes, all of which were interesting and stylish and utterly cool, from the Undertaker to the monorail chase, the hypnosis room fight and the yacht battles, right up to the plane fight.
And as someone who still loves Incredibles 2, I can say I prefer the relationship drama and action scenes in that movie more than the original.
I get why people don't prefer the sequel, but I genuinely like it, and believe it to be in the top 3 Pixar sequels, alongside Toy Story 2 and Monsters University (yes i am a MU apologist, fight me).
