I just saw one in texas where an eighteen year old did the role. She was ten times more emotional, and she actually cried in the performance. And if my child died I wouldn't be smiling. At all. Maybe a small forlorn smile while I was singing, but not a happy one.
I'd say her acting is fine for a high school production, she just didn't make the choices I would have made. She sing it in a hopeful way, with anger just at the end. For me, this song is a plea. She's trying to convince herself that she can be forgiven. So she's trying to place the blame on Leo, because really she feels so terribly guilty about letting this happen and she's trying to reason that Mary is safe and happy now. She's pleading with herself and with Mary for forgiveness.
