    Something about this style scrates my brain in an unbelievably good way.
    There's almost always something about 3d art that's just not doing it for me but I LOVE this stylisation
    It's so crisp and goes right it my brain but still 3d. It's so fun to look at!

    This tutorial is awesome! Thanks for creating it. I spent over 6 hours today just going through the first 10 minutes of it, filling up two pages in my notebook with hotkeys and process notes. This is my first time attempting to use Blender since 2013, and you've made it really easy to get back up to speed (loving the new UI paradigm in 3.5 - compared to 2.6 or whatever I last used). Can't wait to get back into this tomorrow.

    23:19 while using the leaf brush, how do you only apply texture on the fill of the elements and don't affect the respective strokes?

    • @kevandram
      @kevandram  ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure to add the fill layers as masks for the texture layers. This will ensure the texture does not affect the actual strokes. Hope that helps!

    Nice!
    I'm following this on Blender 3.01 and I have a problem:
    @17:03 : how did you go to Edit Mode without deselecting the circle?
    I can only do it after accepting it with middle mouse click and then in Edit Mode I have to select all the points of circle one by one (luckily they are on a separate plane from the other strokes so I can box select them on numpad 1)

    • @kevandram
      @kevandram  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The other thing Blender needs IMO is "explicit surfaces". They're there in a way (material assigned to a set of faces is a surface), but not really defined as such where you can label them. It would be nice to label a surface so a material asset can be assigned to a specific surface on a mesh, and also to random assign various materials between surfaces to get like a "click through view" of a lot of different combinations - think clothing. Blender doesn't tend to use the term "surfaces" much but I think it should as I tend to see it in other 3d programs, and I think it would be good to align with that terminology.

    • @kevandram
      @kevandram  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the functionality is there, but perhaps not in a way that's defined as specifically as this. But yes, I agree I think that would be interesting if this could be labeled and align with the terminology.

    • @kevandram
      @kevandram  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! And that might be due to the offset you have set for your stroke setting. If it's set to surface, make sure the offset is a lower number like 0.015. It might also help to draw in orthographic view ( shortcut numpad 5). Hope that helps!

    • @kevandram

      It was just because it was easier workflow wise since you don’t need to create another material slot. Usually, if it’s just smaller things that I don’t plan on changing in the future, then vertex color is fine.

      Hey brownies the node is called just “Mix” now as of blender 3.4. When you bring it in, change it to color and it’ll work as mentioned.

    I really need help, this tutorial is great, but on the part where you start using the grease pencil for icing, I have my auto keyframing off but it still is auto keyframing, how do I fix this?????
    Found the solution: In the icing layer in the timeline if you click the check box it fixes this, I know it's not what he did but it works for me, someone please tell me if I did it wrong, or there's a better way, have a great day!

    Anyone happen to know if materials node setup can have "parameters" to it. IIRC, assets can have parameters associated with them. Wonder if materials support - like when you drag an asset material onto 3d object an input dialog comes up with some config parameters (like a group node, but at higher level - inputs to shader as a whole and connected to material asset with some default settings). And user can see changes to the shading of the object as they're configuring the shader

    • @kevandram
      @kevandram  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, if you create a node set up, you can create a custom node that groups them and where you can adjust the parameters.

    when i press command 2 nothin happens wit the definition i also linked the material n the 2nd tier isn’t reflecting that change only the top tier is😭 but the 2nd tier is showing the material in the material tab so idk

    • @kevandram
      @kevandram  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Kitsune! If you want to add the Subdivision Surface modifier, you can do it manually by going to the Modifier Properties Tab and selecting it from the list. Also, regarding the materials, make sure they're ordered correctly if you have outlines on them. So, just make sure the color material is in the first slot. Hope that helps!

    I have a question, I am doing a similar kind of project and have many different 3D meshes and each and every mesh's shading is effected by the same light, due to this some of the meshes which are far away from the light get no shading at all. Is there a way where I can assign a light so that it only effects a single mesh without it messing up the shading of different meshes?

    • @kevandram
      @kevandram  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure it's possible to exclude certain meshes from being affected by a light source. But, what I would do is create a duplicate material (based on your main shader) for the objects that you want a different look. Then, I would adjust the color ramp with either a multiply math node to intensify or lessen the coverage. You can place individual lights, but it's not always reliable with the shader set up found in this tutorial. If you are using a set up that incorporates the "Separate RGB" node, then that's more preferred as you can paint directly with a Red, Green, or Blue light. Hope that helps!

    List of Grease Pencil Questions
    1. Why is the fill not working?
    2. How to connect points in a vector?
    3. How to make an acute angle in a vector?
    4. How to make a smoothing brush?

    • @kevandram
      @kevandram  ปีที่แล้ว

      1. This might be due to an unclosed stroke. The paint bucket tool will only work if it has a closed area to fill
      2. You can select the stroke and hit F to make the stroke cyclic (complete itself) or you can shift + select 2 different point and hit CTRL + J to join them
      3. You can rotate strokes precisely in Edit Mode with the basic Blender positioning controls
      4. Go into Sculpt Mode with the grease pencil object and use the smooth tool.

      Make sure you’re drawing on a mesh surface otherwise it will not display correctly.

  • @carmenworthge1415

    My viewport went pale when I went into draw mode on 2D animation tab!!! Any reason why? It looks like there's a white, transparent overlay on my viewport. I have tried to google answers but there is nothing about it. I feel like it's a super easy fix, but I just don't even know where to start looking lol

    • @kevandram
      @kevandram  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries! Try to check your world properties and see if the viewport display and background are white. That’s generally where the confusion can happen. If that’s the case, you can follow the tutorial as is and change the background color to a desired color.

    • @kevandram

      It could be that you're not drawing on an actual keyframe. Check to make sure the error at the bottom of the Blender window doesn't come up.
