@@Thewitchescookery thank you for the gift of this recipe. My family loves it and they were quite surprised at the ingredients- that’s always fun. A new tradition!
I was encouraged by your comment, Shannon, and decided to make this cake too. @@jenparrilli2803 yes chopping the sauerkraut took some time and a lot of concentration for me because I am accident prone in the kitchen. I'm sorry if this sounds a bit scary to some xD, but I need to say it cause the whole boar thing surprised me. In Romania (and I think other Eastern Euro countries, but don't quote me on that lol), we still always sacrifice a pig each Christmas, which we eat in all possible forms until New Year. In some areas they draw a cross with the pig's blood after sacrifice on the children's foreheads, the kids will also climb on the pig after sacrifice and act like they ride it. It's supposed to help kids grow strong and healthy, make them lucky, protect from disease etc. On New Year it's traditional to eat an aspic/jelly made of pig trotters, ears, skin and meat with a lot of garlic, plus more pork in all sorts of dishes. lol I know it may sound kinda too much for some, so again, sorry lol, but well, I am fascinated how this tradition was kept here and is common in other areas of Europe. Ah, also, sauerkraut is a Christmas/NY tradition here too and yes I love it too! I need to try that cake recipe! XD
"making statements of general intentions over bacon" made me laugh so hard lol. love your videos- I am learning so much! I have a strong germanic background, so I love hearing about all of this from you!
I only found your channel a week or so ago but I have been watching your videos every day since then! Not only are they absolutely beautifully recorded and relaxing to watch but they’re so informative and not at all overwhelming - just what this beginner witch needs! I hope you’ve had a wonderful festive season and the New Year brings you lots of joy and happiness!
Ooh I love ceromancy. Have to admit I love your idea of individual melts for a party-atmosphere reading. Delightful! My Slovak Grandmother was very much into divination and "signs". I remember dripping hot wax from candles into ice water with her but, only when my parents weren't around. haha Such fun memories! Thanks for another grand video, Bex!!

Just starting on this journey and was surprised to learn that the southern new year's tradition here of black-eyed peas and cabbage is similar to the tradition in Germany. Very cool
Idk if anyone has ever seen a guy on tiktok who makes vintage recipes. He made a sauerkraut cake, very similar recipe. I was very doubtful, but in the end, he said it tasted delicious and the sauerkraut felt like soft shredded coconut. I wouldn't mind trying this. Maybe next Yule. I like the looks of this recipe. 😋❤️
My friend showed me his video after I uploaded this and now I am obsessed with him hahah my cake didn't really have the coconutty texture or taste - more like chocolate truffle maybe?

I’m in America, we do something similar to the sauerkraut with zucchini! Chocolate zucchini bread, lemon zucchini bread. You don’t even taste it, it’s just for texture and moisture and it’s amazing 😊 So yes, I fully trust the German!
Oh we do that too here - very yummy indeed and the perrrrfect recipe for the flood of zucchinis from all the neighbors gardens in late summer 😂 so good!

That was really inspiring and useful. As a pagan, I don't usually do anything for new year's eve - apart from a favourite film or two and a glass of wine or three! - but there were some lovely ideas there. I don't do resolutions but I do have a few goals of things I'd like to do during the coming year, which I write on the blank page at the back of my diary, then I can see if I've managed to do them or not by the last day. I find that to be a lot more positive than trying to give anything up or make myself do something that my heart isn't into. I love the idea of making little sketches for the seasonal calendar in my diary. One of my goals for the year ahead is to get back into art again, so that fits perfectly to start off with. Another great video! I just had to come by and say that I was introduced to the lead oracle reading by some friends a few years ago! They had us over for New Year's Eve and we all did this, although I don't know if it was with lead or tin, but definitely one of those. It was the year I got pregnant and had my first child, and I remember we all thought my oracle looked like a baby boy. They also introduced us to another German tradition, which was watching this old movie, Dinner for One. Do you do that as well?!
