    I really admire you for the very transparent and open way you discuss and explain in length that you were sent the tent. Too many TH-camrs are devious about the so-called gifts they receive from suppliers. So well done Richard, well done!

      Thanks Phil. I think it’s really important to be clear with any possible influences on the review so it’s fair on the viewers.
      As a consumer I have no issues with review units or even paid for reviews and spotlights, but I would question the bias of the reviewer if that wasn’t made clear

      @@RichardCheng I am with you - no issues with people being sent kit to review they keep or are paid to review. Just need to be like you - open and transparent. I immediately unsubscribe from youtubers who review/recommend kit when to me it is obvious they have been supplied and don't mention this or in the small print say 'unsolicited gift'. There are too many around these days sadly.

    This was an excellent review. Thanks for the transparency, although the time you spent in putting this video together is just due that the company would comp your product. I’ve used the Lanshan 2 Pro for a couple years now with two long distance hikes on the JMT. I like the smaller footprint that the 1 Pro takes, enabling the backpacker to set camp in more tight areas, and also save a few ounces of weight. I hope to purchase the 1 Pro before summer.

    Dear Richard, thx for your reviews. Based on your mentioned comparison video, I decided to buy exactely this tent and was Happy with it for my 5 days including rain on the kungsleden. Only Problem i had was pitchting it at a really tough storm left out in the open. Except for that I 100 percent agree with your review.

      @@RichardCheng Oh, and sorry for the somewhat offtopic question but I hope to get some form of realistic answer from an experienced hiker who has been to Scotland multiple times (?). I'm currently thinking about hiking somewhere in october or november for like 5 days. Would you say that the west highland way would be a good choice for october? I couldnt stand the amount of moskitos in Sweden during summer, but know that at some point must see scotland, so october doesnt seem so bad. However weatherwise.... not so sure? I would be glad to get a short feedback. BR and thx again :)

    • @RichardCheng
      @RichardCheng  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      West Highland Way in October should be fine weather for hiking - the midge should be gone by then. However October is out of the tourist season, so if you’re relying on shops, cafes, restaurants along the way they may have reduced opening hours, or is shut altogether. On the other hand, October means Loch Lomond camping restrictions are not in effect, so it’ll make Drymen to Crianlariach easier to plan

      @@RichardCheng Great thanks. I didnt know that camping is restricted for such a long part of the tour... I need to do some homework ;) but actually this sounds perfect, because I enjoy the idea of wild camping as shown in some of your videos & how I did it on Kungsleden. Foodwise I would plan to travel 75% self sufficient. Meaning I have food for a couple of days but would like to resupply maybe once or twice.

    Great review Richard. I recently went hiking and was able to see the Lanshan 1 PRO up close. I was surprised how roomy it was and how easy it is to setup. Very lightweight and a great looking tent. I almost purchased one based on your previous reviews but in the end I went with the double-walled X-Mid 1P by Dan Durston. We have a lot of humidity in the woods and along the coast in the Maritime provinces here in Canada. I was fearful the condensation would be too much to manage for our climate and the X-Mid seemed like the best bang for your buck for a double-walled backpacking tent. I very much enjoy your reviews and hikes. Best wishes!

    • @RichardCheng
      @RichardCheng  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Martina. It’s a silnylon tent so it’s susceptible to sag because of its material. If you pitch it taught it helps with keeping the shape. When it rains, I sometimes tighten the tent once if I’m heading out of the tent anyway, and it keeps its shape for the rest of the night

    You had both 1 (210cm) and now the 1 pro... I understand both produce condensation, but doesnt the nylon mesh room prevent it from splashing over you ??? I dont own any of the two, but just looking at both, it seens those much smaller gaps around the bath tub (thin mesh between the fly and bath tub) at the pro version will cause much more condensation due to limited air flow (??)... Im asking because now lanshan has a model with has both double wall AND pro size (230cm...), so it seens a better buy than the pro version, it has the best at both ends,,, or not ?? thank you ;)

    • @RichardCheng
      @RichardCheng  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pro has more condensation that the double walled one, but I prefer it because it’s bigger and I can manage the condensation by opening the fly sheet
      I think the plus version will be a good option if you’re worried about condensation, at the cost of size and weight

    • @driewiel
      @driewiel ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RichardCheng Perhaps 'Pro' is for experienced hikers who don't mind having to wipe off the condensation. And I'm sure it is easier and faster to pitch.
      But I think most people should be very careful buying a single wall tent. If it is wet and cold and you touch the fabric with your clean t-shirt or sleeping bag you have a problem. The extra space to move isn't really there. Condensation and wind is even worse.
      The other advantage of the double wall version is you can use the fly and inner separately. For example the Lanshan inner with a much bigger teepee tent.
      Of course you had both so if you prefer the Pro version then I guess it is an upgrade.

    • @RichardCheng
      @RichardCheng  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the single wall does have its trade offs. I personally find the condensation very manageable, especially where I use a synthetic quilt so I don’t worry about dampness at all, so it’s a trade off I’m happy to take

    • @driewiel
      @driewiel ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RichardCheng I can imagine that for you the single wall is more practical. Quicker to pitch, more space if the fly isn't too wet. And it gives a fun feeling to have that super thin fabric between you and the elements. Dyneema probably has that that even more as you can see through it! It may be the only single wall fabric of my choice. Doesn't stretch or absorb water. Not that I have the money!!
      I'm just trying to warn people that is may not be for everyone. Tents are double wall for a reason. I've seen them come back from single to double wall. Make sure single wall is what you want!
      BTW the Lanshan with 230cm inner is also sold as Flame's Creed Lanshan. In winter you can use it with a 4-season inner. Another plus of double wall. No matter how you pitch a Lanshan, it always has that large gap at the front. Especially hikers in the UK often complain about the wind.

    • @RichardCheng
      @RichardCheng  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Garry, I’d do with the 2 Pro out of caution. Because the Lanshan 1 series have sloped sides, the maximum height is very dependent on your mat and sleeping style. On a thin mat and sleeping diagonally I think 190cm may be okay, but more room at a slight weight penalty isn’t the worst trade off in my opinion!
