As a fellow martial artist and synthwave aficionado, I love this analogy! I've been dabbling in creating synthwave and I came across this page and instantly subbed after seeing a few videos. I enjoy your content and look forward to this journey!

I really like this approach. It makes a lot of sense! What I find the most challenging right now is song structure. For me it is the most time consuming part of my music production at the moment, (even though for some reason it wasn't in the past). Maybe now I'm just more hyper aware and appreciative of structure. But I do find that if I pre plan my structure ahead of time, my song tends to fall into place MUCH quicker.

I’ve been teaching this stuff for two years now and I’ve seen it work wonders with those who try it out. When it comes to learning structure and arrangement, the Basic Kata and Advanced Kata are great concepts that help as stepping stones to a full length track. I have plenty of videos about those two concepts here so do give them a try and let me know how it goes and if you have any questions. Thanks for your comment and for watching! ☺️

I think an important thing people forget to mention is to learn songs. Its one thing to know a bunch of theory, but learning songs is really how to learn how to put things together. Alot of videos neglect to mention this and it leads to alot of lost progress

Reverse engineering tracks and songs from successful artists is definitely one of the greatest ways to learn composition and arrangement. This micro skill is contained in both Kihon and Basic/Advanced Katas. Thanks for the comment!

@@SynthwaveDojo Thanks so much! Well, if you ever feel like listening to some of my tracks and giving pointers, that would be helpful. But I can imagine you don't have the time for that.

I love your mentality! I love how your breaking down your process and showing how, with dedication a person can become a true Synthwave producer. I will be joining on to all of you education formally very soon... Already watching your videos and loving them. Thank Yo

Nice one Alonso. Thanks for the content you are posting. Very cool.
One topic I don't think you have discussed much is the "sounds" of synthwave. A few reviews of typical lead, bass and harmony sounds etc might be a good topic to discuss.
Not exactly how to make them ... more about identifying and describing "classic" sounds that make synthwave distinct.

@@SynthwaveDojo Is it better than fl studio because it looks sleek

    • @SynthwaveDojo

It's hard to say. Legendary synthwave producers use FL Studio (TimeCop1983), Logic (The Midnight) and Ableton Live and a bunch of others. So it's not so much the DAW since all of them can pretty much do anything you need. It's a matter of which one's workflow fits you better.
I changed from Ableton Live to Studio One a few years ago and it's one of the best decisions I ever made. I'm sure there's a demo or trial version of Studio One. Try out for yourself and see how you like it. The workflow is a bit different than FL Studio though...
