What LP was able to achieve as a privateer compared to the big budget dealer teams was just remarkable. That era of racing was so interesting with the different cars and characters of the sport. These days, the cars look the same, very little overtaking and the personalities have all been sanitised to make a sport much less appealing to the public.

absolutely fantastic, I remember the goings on back then. can never understand why, when some one comes up with a new way to do things, the knockers come out, ( although some knockers do have a good feel on the occasion ) must be the Australian way, they don't like to admit defeat, and when they were beaten fair and square, they scream, we gotta change the rules, why couldn't every one else lift their game, as this would benefit a lot more, than a sore loser. Larry and the team did a lot, and were kicked when they should have had the Order Of Australia Medal. Hats off to you Sir, you deserve more.

One of my favourite things about this is that, if you look at the rigidity test report figures, Harrop was right there with - if not better - than AP and Alcon at the time. ...and then Perkins went better again :D

As per the line in the movie "The Castle", L.P, you are an "ideas man". We've seen this creative innovation from L.P time and time again, whether that be easy fault finding with the electrical tower, improving the Holden cylinder heads, intake manifold slide operation, brake calipers etc. Not everyone has that gift to think outside the box which is why I see him in the same light as the Adrian Newey's of this world.

It always amazed me how quickly the crew can change red hot pads, you explained that a bit Jack. Not so quick to change the pads in my WB Ute and they are cold. I was 15 in 95 but I do remember that was the year that everyone raced in the same class. I love the ingenuity here... and I still like it even if it's a little shifty! I would've liked LP's thoughts (at the time when he was putting up the money) on how long he thought he would be able keep an advantage. I would think that the bigger teams would simply have thrown the money once they knew the game... given the time benefit would be known to them and so long as they knew it could be done without loss in performance? The rules give and take... I think we like when a small budget team can run a reasonably competitive car and we like when an underdog can get a step on the big dogs, but we don't like it when the big dogs get the stuff and series becomes a game of the haves and have nots. I'd like LPs thoughts on that... maybe he'd think he got the rough end of the stick much of the time?

Funny story, many years ago (17+), I applied for a job with Perkins Racing but thought nothing more as I was a nobody. A month or so later, I got a call on my mobile while driving to work and I didn't know the number. I pulled over and took the call, the fella on the other end introduced himself as Larry. Now I was totally unexpecting a call from anyone let alone LP so of course, was very sceptical. Funny thing was, I could hear a bit of noise in the background which I recognised as that of a gas turbine. I then asked the calssic who is this and are kidding me? Answer was simple, it was LP ringing me about my application for a job and he was flying his Jet Ranger up past my way and wanted to meet up to discuss. Sadly, my life at the time was pretty messed up and I couldn't commit to being a stable employee and told him so. He was very down-to-earth and honest and thanked me for being honest as well.
Hat is off to LP and what he has managed over the years.
