There is a dozen videos on the topic and this is the only one that actually shows the procedure in close up with clarity and every step not a wide shot from someone doing this from 5 meters away. This video is so good and concise you could mute it and still be able to perform the procedure.

Thanks for the video! The cable replacement on these models are relatively easy in comparison to the plethora of twist shifters out there especially the shifters where you have to separate the twist mechanism from the body to access the cable. If you could demo cable replacement on some of those shifters it would be helpful!

Hi and thanks for your comment. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video. I've got a video on replacing a gear cable for Sturmey Archer grip shifters coming up on May 3rd, followed by non-branded grip shifters on May 17th. Then, on June 1st, I'll be covering Sram MRX, Quick Shift, and 3.0 Comp, and finally, on June 15th, I'll dive into Microshift and Sun Run grip shifters. If there are any other grip shifters you would like me to cover feel free to get in touch.🙂

Great video, very clear explanation! I have the SL-RS45-8R on the second-hand Scott Roxter for my 5-year-old son but he finds impossivel to shift mostly towards the lower gear. I wonder if I need to replace it with a new one? Is it beneficial to lube the hose (like WD-40)? Or is there any adjustments to make shifting smooth? Thx

Hi, and thanks for your question! I'm happy you enjoyed the video. This is based on my personal experience. My sons started riding bikes when they were little and they also had difficulty shifting gears on their bikes. I tested both twist grip and trigger shifters and found that they struggled, mainly because their hands weren't strong enough yet. It's definitely worth checking for other factors like rusty or frayed gear cables, which could affect shifting performance and may need to be replaced. However, it's possible that your son may simply need some time for his hands to get stronger. I've created a video outlining 9 reasons why gears might not be functioning properly. You might find it useful! th-cam.com/video/TokUOhUzEe4/w-d-xo.html
Good luck and let us know if you've made shifting easier for your son.🙂

I am missing how to continue with the outer cable and the hub shifter mechanism. A whole procedure would be even nicer.

@@cyclemaintenanceacademy Yes, I am trying to install a Revoshift on my bike that I upgraded to a Nexus 7 internal hub. I had lever shifters that were recommended online, but I haaaate them. (Bike originally had a Nexus 4, replaced with a Nexus 3, now upgraded to Nexus 7.)
