    Finally someone who actually brings food into the woods! I love how a lot of bushcrafters never bring any food. They show a full bag and tell you it's what they bring into the woods for one, two or three days and there's never any food. I know you don't technically need food in two or three days, but is it enjoyable?

    Joe, I'm sure you know this but its not an US knife. It's a U.S. ARMY knife. the original one was made by camillus. Great knife and becoming VERY rare. Hold on tight to that. Got mine when I entered the Army in 1976. its my daily carry knife. EXTREMELY rugged and well built. good video.

    Hi Joe, love your vids! I used to carry two plastic Nalgenes but now I carry various bottles depending on time of year, distance etc. I now carry a stainless Nalgene...found it at Real Canadian Superstore $32....half-price compared to any on-line sources. I also carry a 1 litre Platypus which works with the Gravity Works. The steel bottle is great because you can boil and it keeps my water cool. Cheers fella.

    Thanks for sharing Joe! It's "funny" how we can get certain skills such as bow and hand drill down, inside and out, under pretty much any circumstance and then decide to move on to developing other skills. Since probably 99.999% of us don't use a skill such as friction fire on even a weekly basis out of sheer necessity, it becomes a perishable skill. Fortunately it's not like starting from our very beginning though ;) when we get back to it. Hand drill is my favorite of friction fire methods and I'm frequently humbled by how fast my arms get spent when I go back to it after a long break.

    You can find them at Canadian tire. Coghlan's camping grill. Be careful as the edges are sharp and can catch or tear some gear if shoved quickly in the pack. I used a canvas/burlap bag until I ground and smoothed the edges.

  • @isaacsipe8264
    @isaacsipe8264 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Joe, the grill you're using is very similar to one I have in my bob / car camp pack. I picked mine up on a clearance rack in a sporting store. Coghlans 8770, wish it came with the ouch you use. Mine wore a hole into the tarp in my pack.

    I am surprised your first aid kit is so small, but you would know better than anyone else what you really need. I don't go on many day hikes either. This is an interesting video. I am always curious what others carry with them, esp. someone who has been there and done that, which you have. Thanks a bunch!

    Try wearing your emergency whistle around your neck attached to a lanyard.
    It’s no good in your possibles pouch inside your pack if you need urgent help in an emergency when your out alone.
    Stay safe.
    Love your videos.
    Keep up the good work.

    My wife made a firekit for her car out of one of those cans. Personally, I'd rather have a smaller kit to carry on my person, as that kit is intended for situations where I've lost my pack and gear. That's all great equipment you've got together in it, though. If I had that, I'd probably just split it up between a few pockets on the pants. You said you only carry a knife and firesteel on your pants/belt, which is great. But I really like the "First-Line" philosophy of survival preparedness. Just my thoughts.
    Great video again, Joe!

    Hand/foot warmers... I found myself snowed in with 8" and had 10 miles left to hike. I had regular hiking shoes which were decent but very inadequate for the amount of snow on the trail. Going through my bag, I found the pairs of hand warmers and foot warmers that I threw in my bag on a whim and forgot about. After stalling for as long as possible, I put both a hand and foot warmer in each shoe, threw on some extra layers of dirty socks, and headed out. I arrived at my destination 5-6 hours later (snow hiking is much slower it turns out...) with soaking wet shoes and socks and toasty warm feet. Won't set foot on the trail in the winter without them ever again.

    Joe, good video, good bushcraft bag content ,have to say after all the reviews on thrunite torch on TH-cam of late I got a ti5 torch, great little torch, sits next to my leatherman wave in its pouch, already used it loads, very impressed, surprised you don't have a means of getting extra clean water apart from puri tabs i.e. sawyer filter, I tend to carry one along side a millbank bag (most water sources round my area are full of sediment ) don't way a lot plus use millbank bag for collecting tinder/veggies etc, like these videos, hope your daughter is well, cheers from across the pond, craig

    I had one of those US army knives you have in this video, it had Camilus 1990 stamped on the bottom of the knife blade.... didn't use it too much but I opened the blade up one day and the liner lock on the back of the knife that keeps it in place when opened had snapped in the middle and left a small welt/bruise on my hand. After that the blade traveled freely on it's own and was completely unusable cause it went past the 180 degree locking position. It sucks cause it held a razor edge...
