Well done 14c28n is better then decent. I have 14c that preforms every bit as good as S30v. It takes a stupid edge, strops back better than most, has excellent edge stability and toughness for a stainless. It's also a steel that you can take to as high grit finish as you want and the edge will have aggression/toothyness to it rather then slick off. I have tested it on customers knives that wanted IG pic quality mirror edges and I have taken it all the way up to 30k/0.44 micron on my shapton glass stones and stropped down to 0.01 micron and the edge still had bite to it.. that's not something that all but a handful of steels can claim.
Edge retention on 14c and s30v both at optimum heat treats and temper 14c is damn close and has more apex stability allowing you to lay the bevel back and not worry about chipping as much as you would on s30v at the same angle. To me the only thing S30v has going for it over 14c is if you enjoy super toothy edges low grit edges.. if you like super toothy F240 to F400 grit edges S30v will have more tooth and aggression because the carbide structure then 14c but once you get to F600 plus that toothyness advantage equals out and around f1200 grit S30v is starting to slick off and 14c doesnt it just keeps that bite no matter the finish you are putting on it.
Sandvik steels are also very fine grained and act a lot like powdered steels on the stones and that's a nice thing it's also a very clean steel with very low impurities so it's very consistent and it's very easy to heat treat.
14c is a budget steel because it's on budget knives and therefore has been coined a budget steel. What it really is is a high preformance base line premium steel that's price to preformance ratio is simply unequaled in knife steels today. 14c is a far better steel then typical "mid grade steels " AUS10, BD1N, VG10, N690, NitroV etc etc and will out preform D2 on the vast majority of knives unless the D2 is well done (well done D2 is a superb steel, well done CPM D2 is an awesome steel) and will give well done S30v/S35vn a run for its money in edge retention and its DEFF tougher then they are.
Ask any body who sharpens professionally (my self, Mike, Jared, Steve, Outpost76 and many others) and cut tests knives what's the best steel that's not considered a premium steel and everyone of them will agree its 14c.

would really love how to sharpen properly. how long has it taken you for you to be able to use manual stones given trial and error? appreciate your clarification regarding the steels out there, it can be a bit confusing for less knowing people such as myself with so many options out there and all you see is a pricetag.

The handle and deep carry wired clip are amazing. It would be cool if it had a button lock. The black shape isn’t the greatest though.

Do a real drop test. Hold it waist high . Drop it and if it sticks in cement. Touch up blade and have a nice day.if it breaks or chips out its junk. Thats the old Gerber test using real hardened steel , not just stamped that way !
