I got my daughter the regular size Yoto at 18 months, and I am so glad. The regular player addresses some of the issues you brought up with the travel Yoto. It has a dock, so it stays charged. It also auto turns on whenever you put a card in. At 18 months, my daughter was able to put in different cards, though she didn't understand the controls for volume or choosing tracks. She has never been overly distracted by the screen, but I really appreciate the icons which help me find a track when she requests something specific. As she gets older and we travel more, I plan to get the Yoto mini as well, and I'm glad that we'll be able to use the same cards on both devices.
Oh love that! The not auto turning on and requiring you to press the small button on the side I think is my biggest frustration with the mini at this point. I’ve gotten to see my younger daughter interact with the Tonie and Yoto (she’s 18 months) and while she is definitely more drawn to the figurines I was impressed how early she could do the cards. The fact you have to press the button though made it not independently usable for a lot longer even though she can put the cards in
I’m in verge of buying tonies for my son because it was 30% sale in target but I don’t know if that’s the one that my son needs. He loves the Me Reader book series a lot and enjoys every book of it that’s why I’m thinking of buying him a Tonies or Yoto this Christmas. He just turned 4 also. What would you recommend me to by for him? I hope you can help me decide. Thank you so much for your help. May God bless you & your family
I’ve watched like a dozen of these comparison videos so far and the Toniebox is definitely going to be the best for ages 2-5. I’m buying my 2 and a half year old a Toniebox for Christmas and waiting until his 4th birthday to get the Yoto since I know he won’t enjoy it as much now, and by that time I can pass the Toniebox down to his sibling so I can get even more use out of it. If you’re not able to afford both right now then definitely get the Yoto. It’s better for longevity.
I don't know if I want to invest in both cards and figures. Cards seem nice since he has a ton of toys already but is only 2. We travel between USA and Australia so the tonie box might be too big but I'm just not sure what to do... I def like the toy aspect for a toddler but again...traveling with all those figurines and a big box 😅
We've enjoyed our make your own ones the most so far. We have a few stories (Little Engine that Could, Are you my Mother?) but he hasn't been very into them. I need to get some more music ones though!
This is a great review of these items! My son really wants his own music player and this video popped up at a perfect time as I’m wanting to look into screen free options for him. Thanks for hashing out the pros, cons and more about these two
Some of my daughter's favorite cards are the Laurie Berkner Band songs (her favorite is on Animal Songs, it's the Dinosaur Song), Songs from the Playground, and the Yoto original Row Your Boat and other Preschool Songs. I also made three cards of our own -- one is Disney music, another is songs from Ms. Rachel, and the last is recordings of me reading bedtime stories.

What are your favorite/recommended cards for the Yoto player?

@@HomeandontheWayThank you so much! And if I may ask what do you put on the make your own?

'Promo sm' 😢
Nope. Purchased both with our own money and have no relationship with the companies/have not been paid to promote either.
