As someone who is playing this in their band class (as a clarinet) I can say for me, it is hard learning this piece 😅 however the end is always worth it!! (Our 3rd concert is in March!)
I remember when me and my 6th grade band thought this was so difficult and this song still gives me chills, i miss ya Mrs. Hopkins 😭i think imma ask our band teacher this year (9th grade) if we can play this again😭
God, I played this my first year, first band concert ever in 6th grade. Played it again as a farewell for 8th grade and to say goodbye to the band teacher because she brought so many memories to the classroom, I’m a junior in Highschool now waiting until our final year to get in contact with her again and have us play this one more time as a final send off. I cannot wait

this was the first piece i ever played in band as a percussionist. last year, i was in 9th grade and had never been in band before. in middle school, we were given a choice between band or art. i chose art, and did that for 3 years while the band students were building skill. when we were choosing our electives for 9th grade, i had a feeling i wanted to do band, so i did. during the summer, i made a friend that told me that i should play percussion. so, i did. although i was going to play clarinet, but im so glad i chose percussion instead. i cant picture me doing anything else. i dont have that friend anymore bc we dated and it tainted everything but hes still not a good person. anyways, thats the only thing i can thank him for. since covid happened and nobody had picked up their instruments for close to 2 years, we did this song to kinda get us back into band. it was the perfect way to introduce me. i was lucky bc i had been in dance lessons for the past 6 years, so i already had a good concept of rhythm and time. that helped a lot, and i got the hang of it. i did struggle with the bells, though. i found it hard to learn the notes, but i eventually got the hang of it with the help of my awesome band teacher and older percussionists in my school. i thoroughly loved this piece. i played the brake drum and the sleigh bells. we played it for our 2021 winter concert and i was so sad when we switched music. the first year of band carries so many fond memories, and i cant wait to make music for many years to come. i now am at pretty much the same level as my classmates, and im just so thankful that my 8th grade self decided to take band. this piece makes me tear up bc it just reminds me of that time.
