Between this and the magenta tint, I could never daily drive a QD-OLED. I tried, but even in a dimly lit room it's just so bad compared to a matte WOLED.
What I never hear commented on is what constitutes a "bright" room. Are we talking about a moonroof in Alaska bright, or a standard 60w/800 lumens overhead light?. It seems like anthing above a candle is considered too bright for a QD.
You're losing out on picture quality and potentially ruining the heat dissipation of your monitor. Make sure it's ok to leave that on.... my specific model of qd oled (msi271qpx) has issues when you don't take that stuff off. Overheating and burn-in ad a result. Be careful.
I have both Msi qd and lgs 32gs95 here now.... And i dont see alot of "better colors" on the qd-oled 😢 I dont get it why so much peopels say qd colors are better, its nearly the same.... also its not washed out bc of the matte finish. The black on the qd-oled is bad, even with low ambilight. Its only a true black in a completely dark room. And u lose alot of fine detail, bc of the reflection and purple color. Only the hdr brightness seems a bit better on the qd-oled, with the same ingame brightness settings, so i have to turn the woled higher.
My only complaint with the Asus PG32UCDM is the screen coating. My LG C2 never had that issue. Likely going to upgrade to the LG C5 when that releases.
2600 hours on my gigabyte FO27Q3, it has a few scratches I can see when shining my phone flashlight on it despite following samsung's own cleaning instructions for the panel, but nothing visible under normal conditions yet.
yeah i noticed that on mine too, after 20 years and dozens of monitors i know cleaning them must be done with the softest and cleanest microfiber cloth. (if you are using detergent or softener with color or perfume to wash the cloth, it is not clean!) But still the qd-oled has some scratches, unfortunately nothing we can do about it, good thing they dont last very long anyways 😥
It's NOT blown out of proportion! I had LG oled TVs as monitors since the 48 inch release then 42. I have 2 different QDOLED monitors now and the surface of them is a DISASTER need special monitor oled cleaner plus microfiber cloth , ALL other screens including WOLED isopropyl alcohol is the best but DO NOT use isopropyl on QD OLED !
It's visible only on Windows. It's the way Windows drivers interact with these monitors. I have had zero issues with my Macs over thunderbolt/displayport. And everyone knows windows is dog$hit.

My C9 got it after 4 years, but in Norway we have a 5 year warranty regardless of what the manifacturer says so i got a new panel + the labour for free. I expect the panel to last another 4 years. i've been talking about this for over a year, people keep telling me "is not an issue, you are not touching it" lame response, every screen gets dirty from dust, humidity, sometimes some saliva, and the glossy finish is a scratch magnet, i've never had this last issue with the matte coatings and i've not seen these "horrible" coatings everyone is talking about, maybe is just some? i am not sure but maybe its something like having OCD and thats why they complain
I am not an expert on the subject, but tempered glass would not almost completely avoid the problem of scratches ?. Like the same thing that a samsung 24 has
Microfibre cloth & warm (not hot) water should do the job... or if its a little more resistant (fingerprints or worse), add 1 drop of dishwashing liquid to 1ltr of water and mix it well. PS: Make sure the cloth its only slighlty moist, and not completely drenched. Use an additional microfibre cloth if needed for wiping it dry. Not a single scratch... easy. EDIT: Still bought me a WOLED for multiple reasons. QDOLED has nothing to offer for me personally, and only downsides in normale life use cases.
Sadly this is an issue with nearly all monitors. Why we make all monitors with the softest of plastics, I will never understand. I still have two matte displays and I try to avoid cleaning them and just use a brush to wipe dust off, because any time you actually try, you'll leave marks.
I have the Alienware monitor that you are showing right now with me, but I had the Philips Evnia before (which I returned because I had to move out). But I can say hands down the Evnia had a MUCH lesser magenta/purple tinting issue when in broad daylight. I would get the Evnia anyday over the Alienware, but I couldn't buy it again once I moved. That non-black background in day light sucks a$$. Literally cannot watch movies during the day. Even at night with lights on it is still visible. So, I have to turn off all the lights to then enjoy movies.
The only question i have is what will these monitors look like in 10 years, 4 years? are we paying 300$ a year? I still have a plasma, I still have a crt... is this a disposable monitor?
I have never preferred. Anti-glare matte coateds I've always liked glossy and for almost 2 years I've been using a LG 42-in C2 TV. That's my gaming computer monitor. I wish LG would also come out with some glossy monitors and OLED. I want the 39 or 40 in 21x9 with glossy coating
just my opinion here, if you are using paper towels to clean the glossy surface, huge mistake. made from wood fibers, will quickly ruin that glossy surface. microfiber, as suggested in the video, is the way to go.
How do you scratch a monitor? 🤔 I mean, it's not like you even move it or anything like that. Dust and fingerprint sure, forever nemesis of display but scratch the monitor? I never heard of any instance that somebody scratched their monitor because of regulare use ???
Ive had a qd oled alienware for 6 months. No issues. Keep your nasty hands off the screens and when you have to sneeze look to your side. This alone will keep the need to clean it way down. And when you do need to clean lt. Clean it properly and you shouldn't have any issues.
Interesting. Since setting my 271QRX up I've only lightly wiped away dust with a large microfibre towel and had zero issues or scratching. Just don't touch the monitor - it's not touchscreen anyway.
These OLEDs are so good in somany ways... except brightness. They're getting better, but still need more sustained brightness. I saw the iPad tandem oled display and that totally satisfied me. So far, no OLED TV or monitor is there yet. 1000 nits is not even close to eye searing. And being dark adapted is not the same visual exeperience. Human vision is best in daylight. We don't have nocturnal vision. We don't have reflectors behind our retinas, and we're trichromats. I think 4000 nits would be even better, but for energy consumption purposes 1000 nits sustained 100% screen that the iPad can do is enough, and I don't even need its 1600 nit peak ability. I'd put it in reference mode and enjoy the consistent contrast and brightness. 230 nits on current OLED tvs is not something I'm going to spend money on, even for dark room viewing. 600 nits might be close enough and would tempt me. I really want all that OLED goodness, so I'm hoping the iPad display represents the future.
The magenta tint is such a nothing burger. Its not visible when the monitor is in use, and who cares if it has a purple tint when switched off. I dunno. In terms of cleaning. I'm trying to keep the peel-off film that came with the monitor on the screen for as long as possible! I only just recently got mine 2 weeks ago.
Nope it is very much noticeable when watching movies. But it differs monitor to monitor. My Alienware one is worse than the Evnia (I had the Evnia before but I returned it since I had to move, then I got the Alienware instead because Evnia wasn't available in my new location).
Then check your eyes. This isn’t really a subjective topic. The magenta issue is extremely annoying and noticeable in bright rooms and this is coming from a PG32UCDM user.
OH MY FUCKING GOD, took him at least a minute to get to the point! I swear, so many of these youtubers just try to increase the run time on their videos: listening to them recite things that EVERYONE knows in a nasally, whimsical tone feels like a DRILL to the eardrums... UUUUGGGHHHHHH....
On that i agree with you mostly because of reliability although now they rolled out gen 3 panels if i am not mistaken which claim the same. QD-OLED colours are way better but the LG ones are a blast as well. Finally LG doesn't roll up firmwares that ruin your monitor or tv for that matter!
@leonidasdestoleo2761 I don't know about gen 3, it's hard for your average consumer to figure out what exactly is in a tv. At least in my place in the world, for oled you've got the option of Sony, LG or Samsung. I won't touch Samsung till they support chromecast. Sony are way overpriced (as are Samsung). Unless money means nothing I tend to think LG is it.

Only problem I see with these oled panels are flickering issue. Didn't push the trigger and bought Alienware qd-oled ultrawide monitor just because of this.
You forgot the dominant blue light energy emitting through the panel, the low light quality (CRI) giving harsh and sterile cartoony colours, and of course the subpixel layout making text and finer details a mess. Also the motion still isn't up to plasma standards let alone CRT 🤭

You're losing out on picture quality and potentially ruining the heat dissipation of your monitor. Make sure it's ok to leave that on.... my specific model of qd oled (msi271qpx) has issues when you don't take that stuff off. Overheating and burn-in ad a result. Be careful.
Nice vid!
Does this "red" effect disappear when you turn on monitor ?
I have both Msi qd and lgs 32gs95 here now....
And i dont see alot of "better colors" on the qd-oled 😢
I dont get it why so much peopels say qd colors are better, its nearly the same.... also its not washed out bc of the matte finish.
If you view text on your monitor, surely Woled is better
great videos brother! any advice on what monitor for a 4090? I really like the idea of the lg c4 42". big juicy
My only complaint with the Asus PG32UCDM is the screen coating. My LG C2 never had that issue. Likely going to upgrade to the LG C5 when that releases.
There's a reason why all the oled tvs have glass fronts
Could I just keep the plastic cover that comes with the screen?
Also, what are the QD Oleds tvs that are out now?
Thank you.
What happens to alcohol qd oled?
What monitors you have? Is this scratchable display problem also issue for the new 32" 4K QD Oled?
The big issue for me - pixel structure. The fringing effect 😢
you get used to it, but it almost disappears in high ppi monitors. 1440p is not exactly enough ppi above 26"
It's visible only on Windows. It's the way Windows drivers interact with these monitors. I have had zero issues with my Macs over thunderbolt/displayport. And everyone knows windows is dog$hit.
@@SahilP2648i have an msi271qpx. I do not notice any fringing at all unless I scrunch my face up next to the monitor and strain my eyes. Only then can i see the fringing.
i gotta say, new OLED monitors with matte are actually really different than old mattes, its actually better than Glossy imo
In terms of contrast, sharpness and overall image quality it will probably never match glossy, it's by design. But for everything else it's indeed better
I dont see alot of difference i have both here now lgs and msi.
Only thing is i have to turn the brightness setting in games with hdr higher on the woled to reach same picture.
But the black on the qd-oled is bad, u lose alot of detail in dark scenes even with low ambilight.@@retrofizz727
Na glossy is so much better, unless you're eyes aren't good enough to notice it.
@@francescosorci5595 or unless you have any light source in your room because if you dont play in complete darkness matte has better quality overall ...
my little niece tried to "clean" our 65 inch A95K qd oled in our living room with baby wipes... was a disaster, took a while but with a microfiber towel, we rubbed it clean, looked brand new, absolutely no scratches, not sure if this is comparable.
Are there any dead pixel issues on other panels than LG? My C9 got it after 4 years, but in Norway we have a 5 year warranty regardless of what the manifacturer says so i got a new panel + the labour for free. I expect the panel to last another 4 years.
Issue here is that dead pixels appear after years of use, and these youtubers naturally doesn't check that.
Went from a qd Alienware to a lg ultragear and dont miss the gloss coating it was horrible to clean the woled doesn't seem like its lacking in color or brightness to me in games
My PG32UCDM looks identical to the day I pulled it out of the box.
Don’t touch the glass, don’t spit on it, and if you need to wipe anything off use a magic fiber cloth from Amazon with only your breath for moisture. Still spotless seven months later!
you ended up keeping it? teach me your wife taming secrets
@ It’s too good to have returned it.
@@andrewmorris3479 well .. i returned my after 1 day.. the PG32UCDM is nothing Special.
What about the cloth I received inside the box of my aw3225qf?
Yes ideally something dark like a smartphone with gorilla glass. The S95C coating was pretty good although not resiliant like gorilla glass it is very dark black looking unless you shine a really bright light up close on it and then you see its deep red. +1 for glassy glossy though for sure!
You can tell this guy does not know how to clean a monitor. My 271QRX looks brand new and Ive wiped it with a damp dishrag (cloth or whatever you call it in the states) making sure its a flat surface, you have to do it over and over again gently until all the tiny smear dots you display in your video vaporate thanks to the air. At first you'll have lots, you'll even have long streaks. But let it air dry, go again, let it air dry, go again until the cloth is no longer as damp and the monitor starts to look brand new. Oh yeah always go the same direction each time.
This video is a bit of a clickbait. But then again this guy is ALL clickbait on his other channel.
Ive had the monitor since it came out.
Yeah my qdoled definitely shows when the screen isn’t clean. I clean it with eye glass cleaner with great success.
So is that 0G32uCDP the better option for “durability” with the “semi gloss”?
check out the Qd oled display on the razer blade 16 2024!!! it has gorilla glass eliminates all these issues but on a laptop screen .. hopefully next years models then
Literally clean my Alienware qdoled with face cloth and tap water, no scratches or weird discoloration
The fringing is far worse of an issue, irritates my eyes even with the 32" models
i've been talking about this for over a year, people keep telling me "is not an issue, you are not touching it" lame response, every screen gets dirty from dust, humidity, sometimes some saliva, and the glossy finish is a scratch magnet, i've never had this last issue with the matte coatings and i've not seen these "horrible" coatings everyone is talking about, maybe is just some? i am not sure but maybe its something like having OCD and thats why they complain
I am not an expert on the subject, but tempered glass would not almost completely avoid the problem of scratches ?. Like the same thing that a samsung 24 has
i just keep the covering see-through foil on it i got on it when it shipped
Microfibre cloth & warm (not hot) water should do the job... or if its a little more resistant (fingerprints or worse), add 1 drop of dishwashing liquid to 1ltr of water and mix it well. PS: Make sure the cloth its only slighlty moist, and not completely drenched. Use an additional microfibre cloth if needed for wiping it dry. Not a single scratch... easy. EDIT: Still bought me a WOLED for multiple reasons. QDOLED has nothing to offer for me personally, and only downsides in normale life use cases.
QD-OLED screen scratches is nightmare. I barely touch the screen with roller and got big scratch. Nightmare
Question: some screens come with a protective film after you unbox them, what if you leave it on? Will it affect the picture quality?
it's dangerous since the screen gets rrally hot it can leave some glue in the screen
So the one you showed wasn't yours ? Had mine for 2 and a half years and not a mark on it.
Honestly I have had no issues cleaning it. All I do is breathe my hot breath on it then wipe with a micro fiber. It has worked well for 8 months now.
How does the screen smell?
@@Chicken-o5e Great. I have good breath. It might not work for you tho.
@@Ratbane why
@@Chicken-o5ecuz you’re gross
@@Ratbane damn u were right somehow my screen smells like ass
I use new microfibre clothes each time, you get a big seales package of the for like 10 buckw, distilled water just enough to make the rag damp.
Sadly this is an issue with nearly all monitors. Why we make all monitors with the softest of plastics, I will never understand. I still have two matte displays and I try to avoid cleaning them and just use a brush to wipe dust off, because any time you actually try, you'll leave marks.
The only reason is because its cheaper to source and manufacture.
you forgot to mention the nea black level chrominance overshoot , the stuttering , the black crash etc ... also the apl , and above all the burn in
I have the Alienware monitor that you are showing right now with me, but I had the Philips Evnia before (which I returned because I had to move out).
I still have a plasma, I still have a crt... is this a disposable monitor?
your crt has 300 total pixels that is also a disposable monitor
mine has minor scratches too. but I use a silk cloth
Would a gorilla glass affect the screen brightness?
I have never preferred. Anti-glare matte coateds I've always liked glossy and for almost 2 years I've been using a LG 42-in C2 TV. That's my gaming computer monitor. I wish LG would also come out with some glossy monitors and OLED. I want the 39 or 40 in 21x9 with glossy coating
One manufacturer did put Gorilla Glass and whining customers killed it...
just my opinion here, if you are using paper towels to clean the glossy surface, huge mistake. made from wood fibers, will quickly ruin that glossy surface. microfiber, as suggested in the video, is the way to go.
Buy the cloths for cleaning glasses as well. My regular microfiber cloths were a lottle too harsh for my qd oled.
I need a video please, someone help me Glossy displays vs matte displays. What is better
The only issue is burn in. That is a design flaw in my opinion making OLED not viable.
Bought the G60SD OLED Matte for $450 USD and this video trashed on the coating so hard lol
Yeah I can't see it at all on my Gigabyte Aorus watching movies, only when it's off in the daytime
What is the vrr flicker issue that rtings mention in every of their qdoled reviews
Wtf man. This is a major flaw that no one talked about!
Brother please review the Koorui OLED
#TheDisplayGuy -- I don't see the video you said you'd link to how to clean; please do link!
Link is in the description
Qd-oled seems to not have the dirty gray issue like woled has
The asus xg27acdng is the best 1440p qd oled and it works perfect in a bright room and I don't notice the magenta tint at all
And so far so good 1 month in
Then check your eyes. This isn’t really a subjective topic. The magenta issue is extremely annoying and noticeable in bright rooms and this is coming from a PG32UCDM user.
@ryanvasei8412 ok, I'll check them then lol
OH MY FUCKING GOD, took him at least a minute to get to the point! I swear, so many of these youtubers just try to increase the run time on their videos: listening to them recite things that EVERYONE knows in a nasally, whimsical tone feels like a DRILL to the eardrums... UUUUGGGHHHHHH....
I think woled is better, especially for computer monitors
Unless money means nothing I tend to think LG is it.

solution... NEVER touch the screen.. Never wipe the screen.. ONLY use a dry swifter duster and just lightly brush it over to get the dust... and you'll keep the screen like new
yeah put a light in a disabled monitor, the worst case scenario for matte for every review, tnx very useful.....
ive got the fo48u and its doesn't have the magenta reflection issue as its an LG TV panel on the monitor to bad its been discontinued
How much did you pay for it ❔ 💵
@jarekzahary about 2k Australian nearly four years ago
Nobody talks about black smearing on OLED. Not only VA panels suffer from black smearing but also OLED.
Only problem I see with these oled panels are flickering issue. Didn't push the trigger and bought Alienware qd-oled ultrawide monitor just because of this.
Don‘t use VRR and your flicker problem is solved
@@marco2982 being unable to use just a v-sync off or proper frame generation without a screen tearing is a big problem for me.
glassy coating - 70% Ethanol - I’ve test it.
i cant play dolby vision in my aw32, when ever i try colors is f* up,
Ugh I scratched mines and i super gently cleaned it too
agree 100 percent
Woled is still king. They don’t lose their brightness like qd-oled.
The biggest problem with glossy QD-Oled is that it creates eye strain because of reflections...
Have this exact issue with my Alienware qd oled.
Damp microfiber to get the tough stuff off. Dry microfiber to get dry and polished, good to go. No issues.
You forgot the dominant blue light energy emitting through the panel, the low light quality (CRI) giving harsh and sterile cartoony colours, and of course the subpixel layout making text and finer details a mess. Also the motion still isn't up to plasma standards let alone CRT 🤭
At first i thought your QD-OLED hyping was shilling but then i realised it's just coping lel
Matte QDOLED has no magenta tint
Tried cleaning my asus rog ucdm left smudges had to return to asus so thet can clean it
i use distilled water to clean my QD OLED TV because I don't want to the possibility of using harsh chemicals on it
