Fact that eu4 finland which doesn't even exist in 1444 has a mission tree and hoi4 finland who fought in both winter war and ww2 has a generic focus tree is such a bummer
it's single player balance rn the Soviet ai doesn't survive Germany without help due to doing historical but useless focus like annexing tannu tuva the navy focuses. and even then can collapse with help of ai, now bringing the Finnish ai to kill the soviets would make single player vanilla allied games impossible without exploits
Most likely Finland will be getting a focus tree next DLC as many players predict that the next DLC will be in Scandinavia most likely giving Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland a focus tree.
That would require some effort actually being put into this dlc. They didn't even bother with Romuva and Prussian Lithuanians, so there was zero hope for Finno Ugric accuracy

The requirements are: - Danish, Swedish, Norweigan, Icelandic or Norse as primary Culture - in Age of Discovery -Not had the country flag "had_norse_nostalgia" - is excommunicated OR has modifier "the_statue_in_restraint_of_appeals" - ruler has Scholar trait OR Sinner trait OR is at least 5/5/5 - Owns the province Bergslagen - Is independent There will be a chain of 4 events, then your nation will slowly become Norse.

As a Finnish myself, l am glad they finally made the nation playable, the old Finnish nation was so weak and did not have any special missions and so on, which kinda sucks honestly :/ But now after the new DLC and update? l love playing as Finland now, it's honestly so much better now to play as Finland than before. It was literally torture and if you wanted to succeed with Finland you needed to hope Novgorod started to support your independence or that most cases it's all based on RNG. But now? l could see easily beat Swedish now when it's so much different now. Though l would wish they could add like great projects at last one into Finland, to make it more interesting to play as. But otherwise? l have no complains

Sweden's a *blast* as well. In my game, I got the PU over Poland, which also gave me Lithuania, and one on Moscovy, so I went in about 20 years from being a major player in the East to owning the entirety of Eastern Europe.

I played a chill campaign as the ottomas and to stop commonwealth from forming I released Kraków. Later I diplo vassalized them and they became like my pet project. By the end of the game they were sunni (although they converted only one province) and had borders of modern day Poland. Kraków actually seems to have somewhat decent ideas so I'm gonna back up that guy who asks you to play as them.
I know this was months ago, but watching this as I chose Finland to play with Domination, using Infrastructure and Defensive ideas to get +10 attrition in Viborg (as well as new privileges for more defensiveness). I already fought the Poles outnumbered 2 to 1, using a mere 5 attrition and kicking them off the fort with Finland's special cavalry mercs. Just putting it out there that Finland got even better.
Great video Laith! Just a few things about Åland: - it’s pronounced ”Ualand”, the Å makes a sound like ”ua” or ”uo” - Åland is culturally Swedish, but is an autonomous zone of Finland. This is because the Russians captured it during the Northern War, and gave the role of administrating it to the Grand Duchy of Finland. After Finland became independent, they kept it because it had just been that way for centuries already
There was actually a subsequent issue of who should have control of it, the people of Aland wanted to return to Sweden but Finland said no, the international community then basically enforced their status as an autonomous zone (an idea proposed by the Fins and rejected by the people of Aland). It took quite a while (and opinions changing during WWII) for the people of Aland to come around to the idea of being part of Finland, but they still maintain their autonomy.
talking of needing an ally, im playing great horde and the trouble ive had getting good allies has been horrendous... i tried with poland hoping for help against muscovy, they didnt want to ally me and then rivalled me... the only people who wanted to ally me were hordes next to me that i wanted to invade soon... or tiny nations.. i tried improving with otto.. he rivalled me... even when i got huge and had like +150 with mamluks and rivalled otto & & insulted him etc etc mamluks didnt want to ally.. i had to give gifts and everything to finally get it.. ive never had this much trouble getting alliances...

I think the best way to start is probs to get independence as sweden first. In my case i decided to just conquer finland as teutons then release since I wanted to play theocracy finland. Certainly avoided the double subject issue lol.

There is a modifier to increase maximum attrition, which makes the cap not 5 anymore. Look at the defencive finisher bonus. There are also some permanent ones from the finnish mission tree.
i did a custom nation taliban in afghanistan with fort defence & extra attrition to enemies etc.. and took defensive ideas.. i think i made my forts & lands too strong though cos eventually enemies wouldnt even come & sit on my forts anymore... they'd traverse half way around the world to try to get to an ally or a vassal but completely ignored my lands
hey i was thinking - we need a way to improve alliances in this game.. aren't you fed up with having alliances that are just until you later invade them or screw them over? wouldnt it be nice to make real friendships in the game? have you noticed how allies give you no real reason for helping make them stronger? they screw you over in wars, they often dont even help much now with recent updates, just sitting around doing nothing, then call you into their war and also do very little and expect you to do it all & then they give you nothing in the peace deal... imagine instead a game where allies are useful & helpful and they make you WANT to give them stuff in the peace deal and it has an advantage... I dunno if it does help but i never see them happier with me if i give them land.. this is really dumb. The devs need to add some mechanic in the game that by making your ally stronger & helping them, they stay friends longer... for example if i give them a ton of land and now they have a border with me, they actually like me less - totally stupid in my opinion... id like to see advantages for long term friendships in the game where you dont just want to conquer the entire world and screw everyone over...

Yea that's true, the last mission raises it by 1% so anything above 6% is wasted, but still, sounds pretty fun. We are gonna start a new MP with 1.34 next week, maybe I start as Sweden just for this attrition :p
I had a one in a billion chance thing happen the other day, the ai enemy of the player (me) got their siege to 92% which I dont think has ever happened in the history of everyone playing the game, because as we all know the game cheats on sieges. If ours says 49% it means 21% chance if theirs is 49% it means 77% chance etc.. so a 92% means what? 99.9% chance? anyway i was trying to save scum to see if i could get the ai to go to 99% but it just wouldn't do it.. it either always won or went backwards to 85% there were only 2 options... so i dunno if the ai can ever get to 99%
shame there's nothing focused on liberating finno-ugric people in Russia, because paradox doesn't even recognise their existence still, pretty based Suur Suomi

It's better to wait until your golden age runs out. If it does, you'll get an extra golden age, which is 100% more golden age value, instead of 40%.

As of the latest update, war taxes give you an additional 2 mil points (instead of costing mil). It’s a known bug, so exploit it while you can.

Isn't attrition still caped at 5% meaning you overshoot a little bit as finland?
The maximum attrition bonus raises the cap by quite a lot, though I don’t think he got the global modifier.
There is a modifier to increase maximum attrition, which makes the cap not 5 anymore. Look at the defencive finisher bonus. There are also some permanent ones from the finnish mission tree.

Have you disabled the attrition cap in your run or why do you keep talking about 9%+ attrition? Attrition is capped at 5% (for both AI and Players)
It raises the cap, as far as I’m aware.
Yea that's true, the last mission raises it by 1% so anything above 6% is wasted, but still, sounds pretty fun. We are gonna start a new MP with 1.34 next week, maybe I start as Sweden just for this attrition :p

I had a one in a billion chance thing happen the other day, the ai enemy of the player (me) got their siege to 92% which I dont think has ever happened in the history of everyone playing the game, because as we all know the game cheats on sieges. If ours says 49% it means 21% chance if theirs is 49% it means 77% chance etc.. so a 92% means what? 99.9% chance? anyway i was trying to save scum to see if i could get the ai to go to 99% but it just wouldn't do it.. it either always won or went backwards to 85% there were only 2 options... so i dunno if the ai can ever get to 99%
