She did have a "accidental" flight a good few year's back. She's should definitely be allowed to fly though. The Skies are just not the same without the victor to grace them any more, same with the vulcan.
Going to an airdisplay in the 80s was awesome. All the ww2, cold war and modern planes flying. And now we have just two new fighters in the last 40 years eveything has scrapped.
What a beauty she is. Even the French could not come up with a design like the Victor. There hasn't been a military aircraft since the Victor that is anywhere near as beautiful.
Remember when this great old bird accidently took off? Well legend has it that the poor guy responsible is still in the cockpit to this day. Fingers gripping the yoke and his face fixed in a permanent wide eyed scream.
@@bobsurgranny No, she's tucked away and trapped in what's effectively a scrap yard in a corner of the airfield with a few people trying to keep her from rotting away.
I've been lucky enough to stand near the Victor at Elvington. I believe it was on the reserve list, so had to be kept operational incase it was needed as a tanker for mid-air refueling.
No, not to flying condition. They are doing an excellent job of restoring her though (XL648 if I remember correctly). It's just a shame she was left outside to rot for 30 years or more before deciding to do something about it. A very good friend of mine was a Crew Chief on the K1's on 214 Sqn at Marham.
Is that a refueling probe extending from above the cockpit? If so, what plane refueled this beast and how many total gallons of jet A could the Victor hold?
Other Victors refuelled them. They became tanker aircraft in the late 1960s. Look up Black Buck Falklands for a complicated refuelling strategy, about 11 Victors refuelling each other and one Vulcan to reach the Falklands from Ascension island, and back.
What is the purpose of those 2 scoops on either side of the top of the fusalage right before the tail (1:05"). They appear to be open for some reason. Standard on all Victor's or just certain models? Thanks.
I know there are several good reasons why they dont make designs with the intakes in the wing roots anymore, but it's a shame that its a thing of the past. Planes like this just look so good. Almost as if they were living creatures.
If you can’t have a Vulcan, never complain at a victor. Just a pity the victor could never be a display aircraft like Avros tin triangle turned out to be.
Didn’t she accidentally get airborne some years ago when performing this manoeuvre? Seem to recall it was at Bruntingthorpe and the chap wasn’t qualified to fly ! ! !
That's right! 2009 at Bruntingthorpe that was. Lucky pilot bob protheroe was in the other seat and took over managing to get it back down safe and sound. Bum squeaky moment for sure though
@@ArcturanMegadonkey ...and all those cars bring in an awful lot of spondoolies (or £££££ if you prefer). The runway needed a lot of preparation before a Cold War Jets day and this was much resented by some of "The Management". So, it all makes sense, really.

thats about as aerodynamic as you can get. and this is an older aircraft. what a beauty.
Best looking aircraft ever made. So beautiful.
I agree, definitely up there with the best looking.
Totally agree, so very beautiful and elegant, even more so airborne.
Poor old girl. You can see she wants to get into the air. Sad but great footage :D
Yeah they should get it up there where it belongs
Get that Victor flying again!
It can still fly like the Vulcan, the companies just don’t give it permission to fly unfortunately.

Very futuristic even now. Something you might see in a Flash Gordon re-make. Killer sound from the engines too 😎😊
💯👍
Such a beautiful aircraft! Thanks for the footage!
Oh, those Rolls Royce Conways. They sound great on any aircraft.
Sure do sound good, very raw sounding, similar to the Tornado in that regard
For me, it is the most beautiful aircraft ever built. Even with the lumps and bumps they added she was just gorgeous.
if you told me this beast came out of the same factory as the Millenium Falcon.....i wouldn't argue.
Absolutely Iconic Aircraft ♥️
Still looks like it's from the future!
Definitely ahead of its time, superb engineering.
Other worldly even
What a beauty she is. Even the French could not come up with a design like the Victor. There hasn't been a military aircraft since the Victor that is anywhere near as beautiful.
It is just such that this design originated originated from Johanna Weber.
I now go and google for this gifted girl !
YB-70 doesn’t rate?
The shape of it doesn’t look like a conventional airplane, looks like a spaceship from another world 🇬🇧💪
That thing looks straight out of Flash Gordon!
Just the best V Bomber. Absolutely love it.
Amazing machine. What engineering for its time and of course all great looking as well the V bombers
go on girl, fly my beauty!
that these old girls aren't flying is such a damn shame!
Sure is. Imagine they kept one of every RAF plane just for airshow displays on the UK circuit. That would be blinding
Incredible, near 70 years old and stil Looks great
Such a futuristic design with so much character

Victor V bomber design so fantastic and original ☄🌠🤗🤗😎
💯👍
The Vulcan may have been the "headline grabber" of the V Force, but the Victor was far and away the best looking of the three.
Sure is great looking, such character about it
Victor is my fav
Wow. Blast from the past. Sounding wicked
The last Victor to ever fly, even if it was accidentally.
1947 design, incredible
Really is astonishing isn't it. Still looks futuristic today
the most beautiful object in the known universe.
💯😉
Beautiful yet scary looking aircraft.. definitely fits the profile of nuclear war !
💯
The thrust from the victor was bending the trees behind it :)
Oh yes 😉
The old lady still wants to take off ❤
Awesome..kinda sorta.
Back in the day that must've looked like something from Thunderbirds. Very unique looking plane
Victor has so much character about it - great looking, sounding and performing plane
Futuristic design
Iconic aircraft worked on it during beware of cockpit seat adjustment
Are you referring to the canopy jettison incident by chance?
One should mention Johanna Weber because it was this gifted girl that designed this fine aircraft !
Absolutely awesome!!
Glad you enjoyed watching 👍

the Hadley Victor is such an odd looking plane that i searched it on youtube for actual takeoffs.
I went to duxford. And they are restoring one into flying condition!
Really? Is there any news link to this? Last time I saw the one at Duxford it was rotting outside

Impressive looking beast
Wicked awesome!!! I would love to see/hear a low fly by of a SR-71 with Victors on the right and left.
Cor imagine that 👌
They both are such beautiful airframes that are mitochondria-shaking loud.
So iconic🔥🔝😍 and amazing
Glad you enjoyed watching the amazing Victor V-Bomber 👍
This plane looks like it came straight from the old cartoon "The Jetsons"
One of the scariest looking bombers ever made, it looks like a real nuclear bomber!
💯 Such character to the Victor
Pure sci-fi wonderfulness
Glad you enjoyed this footage of the old girl
What a beast....so cool
Awesome machine and great looking too.

XM715 at Bruntingsthorpe, sadly the airfield is full of cars now so no more fast taxi runs
Kept it on the ground!

I just don't get it. How do they allow this individual aircraft (and a few others) to move under its own power, yet not allow it to fly at all?
To take off and be airworthy is a totally different ball game - you need approval from the CAA (aviation authorities)
